25.01.2022 Home & Kid Grown Organic Broccoli & Snow Peas: I've wanted to grow my own fruit and veg for so long. One good strategy I learned when studying paediatric nutrition, for helping kids with food fussiness and to develop a love for healthy food, is to grow your own. Show them where food comes from and how it grows. The problem was that I had no idea how to garden. It has been on my list of things to learn... and I have felt a bit bad that I couldn't do it, and couldn't teach my ...kids. Then there was the added complexity of doing it without chemicals and what ingredients could be used which were OK. Our existing veggie patch was struggling. Turns out I was overthinking it. My kids took matters into their own hands during the home schooling era. They just wanted to give it a go, and did it themselves. No sprays and no chemicals. I'm so amazed. Guess we had better eat it before something else does!

24.01.2022 The school holidays have been busy - we definitely feel like fast food tonight. Fast food can always still be good for you.

22.01.2022 Fussy Eating. It's over 10 years now that I studied Pediatric Nutrition while my little baby slept. He's not so little now. He is definitely proof in the healthy pudding that it is possible to learn healthy habits for life when it comes to food choices. It has been 10 years of fun, adventure and excellent nutrition - and not because there is anything special about him, nor because there is anything special about me. I simply studied while he slept, and then practised strateg...ies while he was awake. While he loves party food as an occasional treat, he actively seeks out healthy food, enjoys cooking meals and healthy treats for the family (and gasps with delight when he finds seaweed might work pretty well in his lasagne to give us all some iodine), and takes utter pride in sharing his organically grown veggies from his garden to our table. He literally will eat anything...chilli flakes are his current favourite condiment. If you struggle with what to feed your baby, introducing solids or even how to educate your child and boost their motivation for nutrition at any age, while preserving your sanity and their happiness, I believe it is never too late - come and see me for an appointment. I can either come to you in Newcastle or consult to anywhere (in the world, actually) via Zoom.

18.01.2022 Eat less meat and create habits to help the environment by joining Lake Macquarie Council's Meat Free Meals Challenge (at the same time, be mindful of making sure you still get enough vital nutrients for your health which are from predominantly meat-sources such as iron and vitamin B12)... https://www.lakemac.com.au//Livi/Meat-Free-Meals-Challenge

15.01.2022 Some of today's goodness from our farmers. A rainbow of bright colours from nature is all that our insides need.

13.01.2022 Dr Borody does it again - this time with Coronavirus treatment....well worth a listen. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=share&v=F6A6RFDprIs

13.01.2022 Variety is one easy way we can contribute to our health in a big way. Ensuring variety in what you eat is as simple as seeing something you don't usually eat or cook, and buying it. Variety = a wider range of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in your diet.... Variety = reduced exposure to higher quantities of the same pesticides or toxins which may be in your food ie varying just means the bad stuff doesn't get as concentrated. This is my thing which I don't usually buy, which I stumbled on this morning at the farmers' markets, and thought I should give a whirl. Cassava. I don't even know how I'm going to cook it yet. All I know is that I will eat it and that I'm looking forward to it. And then maybe I will buy it more often...or maybe I will just move onto other things.

13.01.2022 New batch of business cards made 100% from recycled materials... Currently doing consults via Zoom or phone.

11.01.2022 It's party central at our house tonight for our 11.5 year old. 6 mates for a very belated Covid birthday sleepover... Skating, scooting, tips, trampolining, lemon branding, dodge ball and endless laughter. I'm thinking this taco feast is about to be demolished. Free range & grass fed beef mince with onion, carrots, celery, zucchini & spices, capcisum, tomato, cheese, lettuce, home-made guacamole with lemon and garlic, natural yoghurt, salsa & big chillis, jalepenos, mini hot chillis . And...a glass of red wine for us.

10.01.2022 Been told, or think you have food intolerances? Dientamoeba fragilis and Blastocystis hominis are a common cause of 'Irritable Bowel Syndrome', as well as chronic gut issues such as diarrhea, bloating, nausea and tummy pain...in both kids and adults...as well as other health issues. After I became unwell nearly 20 years ago with Blasto, I am baffled as to why something so common, still remains such an enigma...and, in my opinion, so underdiagnosed by the medical professio...n. So easy to accurately test for these parasites to provide people with an explanation for symptoms they may be experiencing, and to work out a way forward to lasting good health that doesn't involve tiresome and gruelling elimination diets.

09.01.2022 A gift of the perfect cookbook can be just what someone needs to kick-start healthy eating or to reignite that spark with new ideas and recipes. For me, the gift from an old friend of this beautiful book by @gkstories and @luisegreenkitchenstories feels like a massive hug. I think it always will. Sometimes I feel like I've 'changed' so much in life - or maybe I've just taken a life to work out what is important to me - I'm not particularly normal anymore. My friend in this ...simple gesture has made me feel she very much understands me. And the book itself definitely makes me feel I'm not alone since I share similar values on nutrition and eating and cooking with kids and family. And, these gozlemes from the book are proof in the pudding - 5/5 great! We can't wait to get down to @bodalladairy for more big hugs. Be sure to pop in and support this small and gorgeous business when you go down the South Coast of NSW..... Icecreams made from scratch with wholesome ingredients...say no more!

07.01.2022 I realised I don't have any pics of myself on here. This was taken about 10 years ago, coming out the back of a suits and heels career and before I had 3 kids... I don't think another set of professional photos is on the cards for me at the moment so just to say I look like I've lived life a bit more now! For those that don't know, I also have a business @soapalicious_natural making all natural, plastic free and biodegradable body soaps , shampoo bars, shaving and facial bars..., and dish washing bars etc. Please feel free to check it out. So I realise the least I can do is give all new appointments a free soap of your choice. Unfortunately this only applies for home visits since I can't do this for Zoom consults. This business arose out of several things: Firstly, my belief that the best and cheapest defence to good health is by hand washing with good old fashioned soap (and that whilst hand sanitiser can be effective, it can also be deleterious to gut bacteria). Secondly, my belief that seeking to avoid artificial or toxic chemicals in all areas of one's life can reduce our toxic load and significantly enhance health, and Finally, my concern that many products which are marketed for the human body label themselves as 'all natural' and either are either not so, or otherwise contain ingredients which are not healthful for us. I'm also passionate about the environment since the health of all of us depends on the health of our planet, so I wish to try to reduce harmful things going down the drains of our showers and sinks as well as packaging which may sit in landfill for eternity.

05.01.2022 This is wise advice... I would add in some vitamin C and zinc every day to help boost the immune system and help to reduce the severity of any virus. Fresh squeezed lemon juice. Lots of sleep. And to always wash your hands before you eat. But definitely garlic...garlic is king... I agree we should all stink together!

03.01.2022 Sometimes the weekly routine of meals gets boring. I love trying new recipes... Gives us a chance to bring in something new or to laugh and say, 'never again'. The focus is always on having protein, a variety of veg, and good fats. Last night I made carrot patties (with egg, oats, and garlic), cooked on low heat with lots of cold pressed olive oil. I thought they would be bland and I don't mind a bit of bland and don't mind my family thinking a bit of bland is just a part o...f life... It helps makes the good things seem even better. However, carrot patties will now be firmly on our family's menu. Great for camping too, I think. They were warm, sweet, crispy and tasty...and didn't fall apart. Think next time I will add some sunflower seeds for extra protein and crunch. Served with potato salad made with potatoes, eggs, Lebanese cucumbers, olive oil, fresh lemon, olives and natural Greek yoghurt.

02.01.2022 This is my friend Tim who is also a fantastic meditation teacher. I would recommend tuning into this talk about managing stress with the ramping up of the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Tim always has excellent advice and great techniques for managing stress and anxiety, and balancing happiness, love and peace in our lives.

02.01.2022 Purchasing our current home has forced me to learn more about healthy homes & building biology than I probably ever cared to know. However, breathing clean air is just as important to our health as the food we eat or the environment we are otherwise exposed to. Mould, toxic chemicals and goodness knows what other relics, we inherited with the sale.... I always think knowledge is power, and there is always so much to live and learn. We have certainly enjoyed applying the lessons learned, ranging from the use of raw and natural materials, to increased ventilation and decluttering, to safer alternatives such as oiling the timber floors with @livosaustralia natural oil, using @ecolourpaint zero VOC paint, natural bedding by @fernearth as well as simple and effective low tox cleaning with bicarb, vinegar and essential oils.
