19.01.2022 Bushfires can create their own weather, generating ‘pyrocumulonimbus’ clouds and storms. These clouds can cause dangerous and unpredictable changes in f...ire behaviour, making the fire more difficult and hazardous to fight. So, how do they form? 1. A plume of hot, turbulent air and smoke rises. 2. Turbulence mixes cooler air into the plume, causing it to broaden and cool as it rises. 3. When the plume rises high enough, low atmospheric pressure causes its air to cool and cloud to form. 4. In an unstable atmosphere a thunderstorm can develop: pyrocumulonimbus cloud. 5. Rain in the cloud evaporates and cools when it comes into contact with dry air, producing a downburst. 6. Lightning may be produced and can ignite new fires. 10.01.2022 Sugarloaf and Eukey Brigades at work on Saturday night after 2 lightning strikes . Don’t think the drought is over . We need a lot more rain before things will be safe . I wish I had taken photos of the trees that were struck , to show the power of lightning . The wind in the late afternoon was very strong indeed, definitely needed 2 trucks to contain the situation. Needed to use knapsacks to contain the spread ,as there were places totally inaccessible to the trucks.

07.01.2022 Fire Brigades are currently very active. When you see red and blue flashing lights - slow down. When you see smoke over a road - slow down or find an alternat...e route. Last fire season a fire truck was hit by a car speeding through dense smoke. Help keep firefighters safe and don't be a clown; slow down!
