14.01.2022 Koopa was in this morning for some blood work, blood pressure readings and an ultrasound. Such a brave little hero, he deserved this Marvel bandana! We use Adaptil for our canine hospital patients and are able to spray it onto these bandanas. Adaptil helps provide comfort and reassurance to dogs and puppies and helps prevent and reduce stress

10.01.2022 Meet Clove and Kijo who both recently came into the hospital for a spey and gastropexy. A gastropexy procedure is done to greatly reduce the risk of a life threatening condition called Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV) or most commonly known as bloat. The condition involves the stomach filling with gas during the digestive process, when there is no explusion of food or gas the stomach begins to bloat. It stretches and becomes enlarged, eventually becoming so big it rotates o...n itself shutting off critical blood flow to organs and causing tissues to die off which can't be reversed. Most susceptible dogs are our large/deep chested breeds for example: Mastiffs, Great Danes, German Shepherds etc. Symptoms of GDV include swollen belly, retching, restlessness, rapid/shallow breathing and drooling. If you think your dog is showing signs of bloat, please head to your nearest vet hospital immediately as this is a true emergency! Enquire about this preventative procedure that greatly reduces the risk of GDV on 02 4955 1833. Gastropexy can also be performed during your routine desexing surgery.

09.01.2022 Have a great weekend!

06.01.2022 Vet charades! Ok, here’s a little bit of fun for your Tuesday! Sometimes when you have a consultation with one of our vets, they may draw a diagram to help explain what might be happening with your pet. Let’s see who can decipher these very artistic drawings! First up..

Thankfully, with the help of Let The Ladies Go - Hen Rescue, Dr Joyce and the team of nurses, Bambi is home, feeling and looking a million bucks!

06.01.2022 How cute are Archer and Rhyda sitting for their treats from nurse Tracee

05.01.2022 On the 1st day of Christmas my hooman gave to me.. Flea and Tick control! Here at Sugarloaf Animal Hospital we cannot stress enough, the importance of regular tick control for your fur baby! We love seeing your beautiful pets, but it breaks our heart when we see them for Tick Paralysis. The warm weather and bouts of rain make this time of year EXTREMELY high risk for ticks attaching to your pet and can be fatal if left un treated. ... Some quick tips! Always make sure your pet gets their treatment on time! Ensure your pet fits the correct weight range for your chosen treatment. Do not split individual treatments to treat multiple animals. Will the product wash off/lose its effectiveness after a bath or swim? Having tick paralysis previously does NOT make your pet immune from ticks. Treat every animal in your household. If you have any questions, concerns or you’re simply unsure which product will best suit your pet, please do not hesitate to call us on 49551833 or pop into the hospital and chat to our friendly staff to get your animal covered!
