22.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE: A reminder to all IH alumni that a Special General Meeting of SUIHAA will be held this Thursday 6th February at 6:30pm. At this meeting there will be presentations from SUIHAA, the House and Council about the work which has been done regarding the future of the House, as well as a presentation from alumnus Dr Harry Bergsteiner (1967) on an adaptive reuse proposal for the House.... A number of motions have been tabled for consideration by Dr. Bergsteiner at this meeting which will fundamentally affect SUIHAA's involvement in negotiations with Council and the University. In a year marked by extreme challenges, the Force was with our fearless and exceptional residents who managed to come together - in the truest sense of the IH spirit - and pull off a show that showcased the diversity and brilliance of their talent. 08.01.2022 What is your favourite IH log cabin memory? The idea for a cabin came about in 1977 when then Assistant Director Mollie Burns travelled to IH Berkeley and visited their tranquil cabin located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The visit inspired Mollie and Director Graeme de Graaff to seek out property for a cabin of our own, and after travelling around the state searching for suitable locations, the Council endorsed a site in Belanglo State Forest, where parcels of land ...had just become open to non-profit organisations. The components for the cabin were pre-built in Launceston and shipped to Melbourne, where they were then transported to the forest towards the end of 1978. The cabin was built by 8 to 10 medical students with the assistance of IH council members and a couple of carpenters. Were looking forward to introducing a new generation of IH residents to the cabin this weekend for our annual SUIHAA Stargazing event.

The event will be held in New Delhi, India, on 11 January and is free to attend.

07.01.2022 - A MESSAGE FROM THE RESIDENTS - Dear alumni of IH, My name is Noah Ashton and I’m the Producer of I-Night 2020. As you may know, I-Night is happening at 7pm this Saturday (AEDT). While 2020 has been a turbulent year with new normals, at the end of the year IH at the University of Sydney will halt operations while the university and IH council determine its future. With all of this in the back of our minds, we decided to go with the theme of ‘Memoryscape’ and our small team ...of residents (the house is currently at 40% capacity) have been working hard to put together a great show. Given we can’t have a large audience this year, we have decided to bring the show to you by broadcasting it live on the International House Facebook page. We are looking forward to sharing our hard work with you, and sincerely hope you will be able to join us for this very special event. We would also really love it if you could forward this message to friends of yours who have lived at IH! In the first current residents will be putting up some of their own good / services for auction, while in the second half, all the current IHMA owned items such as the gaming consoles, Bluetooth speakers, sound bars, shop fridges, sports equipment and tech equipment will be up for auction. What happens to funds raised? Current residents who are putting goods and services up for auction will get the amount paid for the respective goods and services. While the funds raised from selling IHMA goods will be donated to Sydney University International House Alumni Association as IH and IHMA will be temporarily ceasing to exist. #ihusyd #internationalhouse
