25.01.2022 You're at work in a team meeting and a window has been left open. There is a cold breeze flowing in. There are 4 dominant behavioral styles in the room. They will each respond differently to this situation: - the dominant energy will just flatly get up, not say anything, and close the window;... - the influencer will try and persuade someone else to close the window; - the s energy will put a jacket on so as not to put anyone out; and - the compliant person will seek to find out the rules for closing and opening the window. This is one scenario of 4 people thinking differently, responding differently. This is a simple scenario. Imagine a complicated one. The more you can understand the thinking of your fellow team members the more you can flex your behavioural style. The more you can flex your own style the more influence and leadership capability you will have. Have a good one :) See more
25.01.2022 Do you know what the purpose of your career or business is and why you are doing it? Do you really know why it's important and I mean more than paying the bills? I'm meeting quite a lot of business owners who have been in business for a long time and are very busy and financially successful. Yet they have started to lose motivation and often talk flippantly about giving up their business. One pattern I've noticed is that the reason they've become so unhappy is because ...they've let so many things go. In the day to day pressures they've accepted things they shouldn't have - # clients that are rude to them or they just don't like; # employees that were the wrong fit from the beginning but they didn't want to say; # projects that they really don't enjoy; and # people and conversations that they needed to have but have avoided. Eventually these things all build up and before you know it you're at a place you don't even recognise anymore. Continually following your comfort zone and avoiding the difficult has a price and that price could be your happiness. Don't keep avoiding problems, face them. If you would like a hand to get back on track, reach out. Always happy to have a chat :) See more

24.01.2022 It was a real pleasure to be a guest blogger for Recruitment Central this week. We've been referring to Recruitment Central for many years now and we highly recommend their services. Not all recruitment agents are so open and willing to help but Sandra is extremely generous with her time and goes above and beyond for all those she meets.

23.01.2022 "Successful people do the things that other people don't feel like doing" Nique Stewart As business owners and leaders you will always be pushing against yourself in an internal battle. The battle that tells you it's too hard, I'm too tired and I'll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and you still put it off because it's the feeling you're avoiding. Push through the difficulty and you will be rewarded for it. Some of my best opportunities come in December each year. This i...s your best time to be in the places where others aren't and to snap the opportunities others are too tired to take. We trick ourselves into believing everything will change next year when in reality next year is only 22 days away. Keep being your best all the way to the end when really it is time to treat yourself, take a break and reward yourself for your actions. Consistency always beats stop, start, stop, start actions. Have a great Thursday :) See more

20.01.2022 Just when you think everything is running smoothly, suddenly another grenade goes off. Something goes wrong, things are no longer calm. Dealing with the emotional roller coaster of running a business is one of its biggest challenges. The uncertainties and the unknowns, especially in the current environment, an ongoing test. One of my mentors used to say the more uncertainty you can handle, the more successful you will be. ... How do we create certainty for ourselves in an uncertain world? We go back to basics- # we deal with each day in the present moment; # focus on what we can control; # plan daily, hourly and weekly; # stick to all promises made to ourselves; # be careful of what we watch and who we listen to (avoid drama); and # take action in spite of how we feel. During times of uncertainty it's even more important that logic is driving your bus, not emotion. Have a great and productive day :) #leadership #stress #burnout #work #smallbusinessowners #smallbusiness #careers #challenges #nevergiveup #persistence #planning #workhard #covid19 #motivation #positive #professional
20.01.2022 Are you thinking of setting up a business but worried about loss of income/job security/time? Starting a side business is the perfect way to get started and not risk your day job or regular income. Business takes time to build up anyway. Don't die with the music still in you as they say.... So if you have an idea, action it. I meet many people with an idea that's been floating around in their heads for years but they are doing nothing with it. This is their dreams going to waste through procrastination. Don't wait until it's too late and that time will come quicker than you think. If you're worried about finding the time to build a business on the side, don't worry. If you love it you'll make time and having a creative outlet never did anyone any harm. If you would like a hand with finding clarity on how to get started or creating a business plan reach out and id be happy to have a chat. Have a good one :) See more
20.01.2022 Happy New Year Everyone. I'm officially back in the office today. Still been coaching a few clients over the holidays but most wanted a break. Understandably !! It's been a great excuse for me to do some behind the scenes work, set goals for this year and have some lovely beach trips away with the husband. What about you? What have you been up to? How was your break? Have you set your goals for this year?... For those of you in lockdown, any new hobbies? Looking forward to sharing and connecting more this year :) See more
20.01.2022 Here’s the new restrictions, for those who weren’t glued to the PM delivery last night. If you’re unsure if your business or situation falls into this, thin...k about the intention of this direction, don’t get lost in the micro details. The intention is to stop ppl gathering with more than 5-10 anywhere. If whatever you’re doing is going to lead to that, then these requirements are asking you to not do that. Keeping schools still open is not because the Government doesn’t care about children and Teachers, it’s because closing schools will take the ass out of our health care and essential services sector (at least 30% won’t be able to go to work) - we will lose specialist knowledge that we can’t replace with another bum on a seat. We also can’t control parents actually looking after children once released. The risk to children is currently negligible on an international level, by keeping schools open, so the advice to keep schools open is essential and necessary. If you have options for your children to enable them to not go to school, without affecting essential services - please God, keep them home! Let’s make it a much less busy environment at schools and reduce the danger and workload of our hero teachers who are still turning up. A big and most sincere thanks to ALL those still working in essential services. Our health care workers Our Teachers Our food production people Our internet people Our retail workers Our logistics workers and manufacturers Our Government agency folk, such as those at Centrelink. You ppl are heroes right now. Much thanks

20.01.2022 As a business owner I spend a lot of time networking, connecting with people, coaching and training. I generally have between 14 and 17 sessions or meetings a week. Some people would hate a business with so much people contact. But I designed a career around what I love doing. If you have a business the benefit is you can design it how you want it. There is no point creating a job you hate for yourself. That's going to be torture especially when running a business is ...one of the hardest things you can do. Design a business around the things you want to do as much as possible. You'll enjoy it more and you're much more likely to succeed. See more

18.01.2022 Hey Everyone, my Mum has a knitting pattern business that she has been running for quite a few years now. If you're stuck inside and looking for a new hobby do check out her page - www.rockthecradlepatterns.com. Mum started as a Neonatal Nurse. Whist working in the hospital people would donate knitted blankets that she felt brightened up the day of the nurses and the incubators. It made the incubators and cots look more family friendly and less scary. This got her back in...to knitting and she still creates her own work today. She is based in the UK but ships all over the world and actually has quite a following in Australia. Worth checking out :-)
18.01.2022 With all that is happening in the world it can be hard to remain calm and not feel uneasy. Here are some keys tips on how to retain a calm state of mind during difficult times: * reduce your time consuming media which profits from negative news and creates more fear and uncertainty. Give yourself a time limit.... * focus on the facts and avoid overly emotional stories and people. * take one step and one day at a time. Focus on what you can control today. * focus on what is relevant to you rather than trying to solve the world's problems in your head. * create a flexibility plan so that you can adapt where necessary. #risk #planning #mindset #business #brisbanesmallbusiness
18.01.2022 Huge thank you to Martens Legal for this wonderful testimonial. I've been working with Tegan and Julia for just over a year now now and it has been fantastic. As a coach there is nothing better than helping a business that genuinely cares about their clients and people and wants to do the right thing, always. I really enjoy working with both of them and i'm very lucky to have great clients. Can't wait to see how their business evolves over the next year too. ... Thank you to Joseph Bobadilla from Brown Fox Media for the video too. Great person to work with. If you're wondering how coaching could help your business we offer a free consultation.
18.01.2022 Good Morning All, below is a link to a video by Kate Carnell - Australian Small Business & Family Enterprise Ombudsman. She explains how the $17.6 billion stimulus package is being divided up for small business including: - From 1st January they will pay half the salary of apprentices for the next 9 months... - A cash payment of up to $25,000 - this will be half of the PAYG sent to the ATO on behalf of staff / tax deducted from their salary. You would get half back over the next 9 months, subject to a total of $25,000 - Significant increased instant asset write off for assets of up to $150,000 from $30,000 for all businesses with a turnover under $500 million. If you buy bigger assets you can write off half. https://www.linkedin.com//urn:li:activity:664590674514105/

17.01.2022 Monday morning inspiration :)
16.01.2022 Tonight the Australian Primeminster announced further businesses that would need to stop operating to help deal with the Coronavirus pandemic. We are now on a steep upward incline so lets hope we can get this virus under control soon so we can stop the awful implications that would be on the health service and people's lives. It is a very difficult situation and for those of you that are now directly affected by this our heart goes out to you.... In addition to the businesses mentioned in our previous post these are the additional businesses that will need to be stood down as of midnight tonight: - beauty therapists, massage therapists and similar (physiotherapists are ok because it is health related) - no open homes - play centres, indoor and outdoor - social and sporting based activities - galleries and museums - open markets unless selling food (to be advised specifically at state level) - libraries and pools - halls and clubs - essentially they don't want businesses with lots of close contact - weddings must now be no more than 5 people (the couple, celebrant and witnesses, with a 5 sqm distancing rule) - funerals of no more than 10 people - outdoor bootcamps must be limited to 10 people with distancing measures being followed - hairdressers and barbers can stay open if they manage distancing and keep sessions to no more than 30 minutes The main thing they are trying to ensure is that there are not large groups of people. Socialising is to be a minimum with very small numbers of people. They haven't put a number on socialising but asked people to use their common sense and no house parties. Schools are staying open so that people can still work. The Government considers anyone with a job to be an 'Essential Worker' and they don't want to stop people being able to work. In particular this includes health workers but many other workers too. You can exercise outdoors with a partner or family member but other than that we should stay home unless we absolutely cannot work from home. Shopping for basics or medical needs is the only reason why we should leave the house. A travel ban is in place unless essential for employment (appeared to be referring to plane travel). There is another National Cabinet Meeting tomorrow night when they will announce new measures regarding leases.
15.01.2022 We all reach plateaus and lose momentum at different points of our career or business. Perhaps you were travelling at a fast pace before COVID but as things have slowed down you have slowed down with them. Maybe it's time for a new start and a new plan as you've realised things need to change. If you would like to see how coaching maybe able to help you navigate this path and create a new one please do reach out. Next week I have two slots available for a free consult...ation - Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at 2pm. If you're keen either- - say yes below and I'll reach out to you personally; or - send me a personal message; or - you can email me at [email protected]. Have a great day :) See more
15.01.2022 Working with many different people 'frustration' comes up as a common emotion at work. Frustrated at staff or clients or people in general. Frustration belongs to the family of anger and can be a useful emotion to inspire action or change or it can be destructive and cause more problems than good. ... When it comes to dealing with others, no matter how difficult they are, 'patience, compassion and understanding' are usually more useful. If you can set your boundaries and direction patiently and calmly you are much more likely to get a better result. You will retain control and be more respected. A colleague is much more likely to respect you and trust you if you respond rather than react. Being able to control your emotions under pressure is a key leadership skill and one worth continually looking to improve. See more

14.01.2022 Feeling a bit flat in your business? It can be hard to continually keep coming up with new ideas in your business. Momentum is key. Once you stop it gets harder and harder to get back on the horse. If you're getting stuck thinking of new ways to direct or market your business keep changing your environment.... Everyone has a creative genius inside you just need to learn how to access it. Whether it be a cafe, a park or different rooms in your house, your desk is unlikely to be the place to come up with new ideas. Be prepared to fail, mess it up and make mistakes and you're more likely to succeed. Whatever you do keep going, and have a great week :) See more
14.01.2022 Are you having challenges working on so many different things in your business? Last week I went for a remedial massage because I was having challenges with my Achilles heel. The person massaging me said that that athletes use a mixture of athletic work and remedial work. If they did all training and no remediation they wouldn't perform at their best and they would start to get injured. Do you ever find that you get better results having a day rest between gym sessions... than going every day? Your body needs this time to rebuild the muscles you have torn. It's the same in your business. You need a mixture of building time and remedial time. This is so you can conserve energy and perform at your best, without burning out. Signs you are getting too busy is forgetting things, being late or feeling stressed. During these times your remediation time is going to be essential and includes: 1. Prioritising good sleep first. Download the sleep cycle app to see where you are at. Good habits before bed. 2. Plan your days the night before. This becomes essential when you're busy. 3. Eat nutritious food regularly. Make a pack lunch the night before if you need to. Without good regular food you won't be able to serve your clients effectively. 4. Exercise at least once a week where possible. You may need to change things around to make this happen. Those endorphins will keep you happy and the fitter you are the better you can deal with a heavy workload. 5. Keep stress low by dealing with conflict early, rather than letting things fester. If you need a hand finding balance send me a DM and I'll see if I can be of help. #energy #balance #recharge #workplace #work #busy #health #wellness #business #leadershipcoach #brisbanesmallbusiness #smallbusinessowners #systems #healthyliving #timemanagement #mindset #careers #training
13.01.2022 Wherever you go you take yourself with you. One of my first lessons in moving countries. Sat in my office at 7.30pm staring out at Centre Point in London I started to ask myself what am I still doing here and why am I doing this. After 10 years I was unhappy in my career and i didn't really know why. Maybe it was the long working hours, the stress or the difficult people. I didn't know what I wanted it just had to be something more.... A year later sat at my desk staring out the window and the only thing that had changed was that Centre Point had now become Story Bridge. Everything else was fundamentally the same. Earlier in the evening with a 10 minute walk to work things seemed less pressured yet it still wasn't enough. It was then that I realized that wherever you go you take yourself with you. Your mindset, your beliefs, your skills. Things don't fundamentally change unless you do. You can move and your life can become almost an exact replica of your past. Your social life, income level, job status, everything. So many of our problems come from within. It's only when we can change what's going on inside that we can change what happens on the outside. 09.01.2022 I've definately done this pattern well. You end up pleasing everyone but yourself. Where do you need to focus this week? What's priority? Who or what do you need to say no to? 07.01.2022 Do you find your constantly on the phone? This can be a great thing for business and also sometimes it's time to switch off. Recently I changed from my phone alarm to a traditional old fashioned digital alarm clock. I have to press the buttons several times to work and even have to make sure I've got the am and pm right. But overall I'm really happy with this new method. ... I used to use my phone as my alarm clock but I was checking my phone before bed and when I woke up. I would wake up earlier but end up spending anything from 15-30 minutes on it. Now if you're happy doing this that's all good but since giving up this habit I've found that I start the day clearer. I also check it less throughout the day as I was at risk of it becoming a bit of an addiction. How to you start the day sets you up for the rest of the day so you want to give it your best shot. I thought I would miss the sleep cycle app but I seem to be doing ok so far. Life feels simpler this way. So if you're looking to save time and create more headspace I highly recommend this strategy. Have a great rest of the day:) See more
07.01.2022 Happy Friday Everyone :) This week I've been having lots of conversations about leadership and I've definately noticed a pattern. I'm finding a lot of people subconsciously feel that being more of a leader will result in a higher work load and more stress and therefore don't want to do it. This is especially tough for people who are already really busy. ... In reality it's the opposite. When done well leadership will lead to less stress, more time and more freedom. Like anything it's getting through the tough times to get to the good times. Your team need you to lead them and ultimately most people want to be lead. Your team are looking for - # optimum trust. They need to know you've got their back, that you're honest and that you care about them; # that you are willing to teach them and help them to grow; # that if they make mistakes you will be tough with them but with the overall intention that self improvement is as much good for them as it is for you; # that you foster an environment of trust, harmony and focusing on the greater good. Everyone needs to focus on a shared goal which is bigger than any one individual. Keeping them focused on the bigger picture will help with the daily, hopefully short term high stress levels. 04.01.2022 Had a great time at yesterday's Executive Lounge Conversations event by Jane Toohey and Steve Clark. We discussed how to make better strategic decisions during times of uncertainty. One of the tips to create certainty is to ask yourself ' what's the worst that could happen and could I handle that?' Then mitigate the risk from there. 04.01.2022 Last week I started working ongoing with a social enterprise company. They are an Australian company with offices in the Philippines, Vietnam and a base in the UK. I'm going to be coaching their Operations Manager in the Philippines. She has a Leadership Team of 9 with 100 people under them. I can't wait to help and see her grow and keep evolving to the next level. One thing I realised this week is that a big driver for me is being able to help people and businesses I... believe in. I love helping great people become great leaders and help great businesses that are making a difference become even better. I don't necessarily want to be at the front of the show but I love to help other people become so. What are your drivers and what encourages you to keep growing and improving your business? See more
03.01.2022 Hey All, i just finished the webinar and we talked about mindset, adaption and innovation. Two things came up a lot as we had an extensive Q&A Session - how to remain productive at home and how to sell and create more leads. Getting responses from people is proving difficult at the moment. I've had some great feedback and I'm going to be running another one really soon, if not in the next week.... Thanks to those of you that attended and participated, it made a big difference as they learnt from you also :-) Jade

02.01.2022 Good morning everyone. As promised, details of our next webinar. Are you finding it hard to stay positive, productive and engaged by your work? Whilst time management tools are useful, most of them are ineffective on their own. You need a solid system that is designed around you and how you work. You need strategies that work from the inside out, not the other way around. We've had a great response rate so far and I'm really looking forward to covering this topic with you. 01.01.2022 Is your need to be liked getting in the way of your career or business? In business wanting to be liked too much can cause real problems. It can stop you- # setting necessary boundaries... # being honest # bringing the best out in people because you create low standards # trying to be the most popular rather than the most effective Tough love is effective with the right intentions. To do the best for your clients or the best for your staff. When you have the right intention people will feel your communication as it was meant. The intention should be to do the best for them, whilst respecting your own needs, in a fair exchange. Sometimes I have to pull clients up on constantly being late or not doing what we agreed in the session. If I let them do this I'm hurting them more than helping them. If they're late for me, they're late for others. If they let me down, they let others down. I'm here to help them grow and improve, not to placate them and focus on my own needs. If I can't be honest with them, then who will be! Who do you need to help/serve/be honest with today? Happy Monday :) See more
01.01.2022 Very important cyber security advice from Cyber Guru. I've met Chris from Cyber Guru a few times and he is very trustworthy and helpful. Given the recent announcements by the Government regarding Cyber security threats I think this is very important and I will be looking at additional security on my computer.
