20.01.2022 World Antibiotic Awareness Week is an annual event that raises awareness about the serious health issue of antibiotic resistance and encourages people across the globe to handle antibiotics with care. Antibiotic resistance is a serious worldwide problem, and it’s happening in Australia . The World Health Organization has warned that antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to human health today. But we can help preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics by... being part of the solution. There are simple actions individuals can take to help stop the spread of antibiotic-resistant infections. Unlike other medications, the development of antibiotic resistance from the over use of antibiotics can affect not only the patient needing treatment now , but also patients and the wider community into the future. Antibiotic use inevitably leads to resistance, but overuse of antibiotics has accelerated this process. Some antibiotics are no longer able to be used to treat infections . It is important to take antibiotics as prescribed by doctors and not to pressure doctors for antibiotics if they feel they won’t help your situation. Saving antibiotic prescriptions for later or taking someone else’s can mean you aren’t getting the right antibiotic, at the right dose, for your needs. Remember, antibiotics don’t fix everything! #worldantibioticawarenessweek #antibioticresistance #generalpractice #racgp #ama #launceston

The signs and symptoms of perinatal anxiety and depression can vary, so it’s important to know what to look out for. Symptoms may include: Feeling sad, low, or crying for no obvious reason. Persistent, generalised worry, often focused on fears for the health or wellbeing of the baby. Being nervous, ‘on edge’, or panicky. Being easily annoyed or irritated. Withdrawing from friends and family. Sleeping too much or not sleeping well at all. Abrupt mood swings. Feeling constantly tired and lacking energy. Having little or no interest in the things that normally bring you joy (time with friends or family, exercise, eating). Fear of being alone or with others. Finding it difficult to focus, concentrate or remember (‘brain fog’). Increased alcohol or drug use. Panic attacks (racing heart, palpitations, shortness of breath, shaking or feeling physically ‘detached’ from your surroundings). Developing obsessive or compulsive behaviours. Thoughts of death, suicide or harming baby YOUR GP can also be a good place to start. 06.01.2022 It's officially National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week After the year that has been, we think it's Time to Catch Up on all the things that we've missed. Coffee dates with friends, beauty appointments we haven't been able to get to, and most importantly, our Cervical Screening Tests (CSTs) that we've put off! In March to June 2020, less than half the number of CSTs were performed in comparison to the same time last year. This is on top of the statistics that showed almost ...half of Australian women were already behind in their screening. This week is all about prioritising your health and the health of everyone you know who has a cervix. Embrace the awkward, because now is the time to catch up Book in for your missed cervical screening today and let’s prioritise your cervix! #timetocatchup #embracetheawkward #ACCF
01.01.2022 Till death do we start guessing your health wishes. While many Tasmanians make a Will, far fewer complete an Advance Care Directive to guide family on their w...ishes if they become terminally ill or can no longer communicate. We should make sure the treatment we want, or don’t want, and under what circumstances, is made clear to family, friends, GPs and other health professionals. This is what an Advanced Care Directive does. It’s a legal document that records people's values and wishes at the end of their life. All Tasmanians should consider an Advance Care Directive, which should be updated regularly much as a Will is changed over one’s life course to reflect changes in circumstances, wishes and preferences. Advanced Care Directive forms are freely available in paper and electronic versions from Department of Health www.health.tas.gov.au//advance_care_planning_for_healthy_d An updated form is now available that’s easier to understand, but older versions are still accepted. Email [email protected] or call Palliative Care Tasmania on 6231 2799 for more information.
