25.01.2022 Early morning Off to Hobart for a nice full day!

22.01.2022 My office for today Great day saddle fitting along Tasmanian’s East Coast where I’m now located around Apslawn. Few more fits before I head back home to Devonport!

22.01.2022 Another rider at the ode this weekend! I was lucky enough to be teaching x5 if you yesterday and every single one of you did me so proud! Keep up the great efforts everyone

21.01.2022 Soooooooo. This is not how I planned to spend my next 6 weeks... Sadly all saddle fits will be coming to a halt for the next 6 weeks - I know this isn’t ideal and I will try hard to find a way to make things work. Those that I know need the fitting finalised and I have seen before I’m going to encourage a local fitter to travel with me to help and get you guys sorted. However please be patient with me!! ... If you have saddle fitting questions please don’t hesitate to ask, I will get onto them as soon as I can. If your urgent for a saddle to be checked over it may be able to be done at SHE but I’m not allowed to drive for the next 6 weeks. Cheers Shantel!

14.01.2022 Late one tonight! I soooooo need a shower and sleep after a huge day in Hobart! Thank you to every single person that has shown love to summer Hill and our brew adventure as independent saddle fitting services for all Tasmanian’s.. I truly have found my dream job and I really look forward to what we can all achieve as a team in the future . ... Every bit of support counts and to see so many smiling riders after a saddle fit truly lets the butterflies fly. Thank you to all the new, old and future clients for choosing summer hill - we won’t let you down! Sweet dreams everyone.

13.01.2022 Today’s topic: SELF BELIEF. You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really need to stop to look fear in the face. I know self belief is easier said then done, but make sure the people surrounding you and your dreams are there for all the pretty and ugly parts of your story - not just the shiny bits! ... Self belief/confidence is a topic I live by when talking to clients over many services. Wether we are in a lesson together or an appointment of some sort, self belief can change the way things happen when we go to communicate with our horses mentally and physically. (Yes it even effects the way a saddle fits!) If you’re struggling with self confidence, please know you’re not alone. There are so many people around you that most likely feel the same way, and it’s important to get to the roots of why it is happening in order to fix it. Take it at your own pace, it cannot be rushed! Lack of self confidence is something that won’t just effect your riding position, but it will effect you’re motivation, learning, understanding and more. What I’m extremely proud of in my own little world, is the fact Summer Hill is an area where the topic is freely discussed and openly talked about. As a group I see a lot of us coming together to help fight these demons head on, no matter how big or small - we simply don’t accept negativity! No matter if you’re a S.H.E member or not, I’m here to listen, encourage and support. I’m very lucky to work alongside a lot of people in the same profession as myself, that I know believe in the same thing as I do - you and your horses success. I noticed this topic coming up a lot lately, and I just wanted to address it for anyone reading it today, and feels like they are in a hole and cannot get out. I don’t mind if you contact me just for the simple chat.. your success is all I care about! We are in this together - so let’s get cracking.

06.01.2022 **Nose in Front of the Vertical - A key Component** One of the hardest objectives in achieving the essential basic components of self-carriage is the true lengt...hening/telescoping of the head and neck outwards, open throatlatch and nose IN FRONT of the vertical. Why is this hard? Because, as humans, we tend to want to use our hands to achieve a head and neck position as opposed to letting it happen as a consequence of straightening the horse and having them SEEK the natural consequence of being in balance - a forward, down and out frame with a light, ELASTIC contact. Just as horses are reactive, so are humans - we have to learn to overcome our natural reaction to pull on the reins and instead look to strengthening our ability and skill level to communicating through our seat, energy, position and light aids. We would argue that, as it is the human decision to ride horses, it surely must be our RESPONSIBILITY to truly understand and learn the necessary skills and techniques to achieve a harmonious working relationship with our horses. From Dr. Gerd Heuschmann - we DON'T bend or pull the head and neck, we bend the rib cage. We don't TAKE the contact, we OFFER it and the horse takes it - when we do it right!! Exercise - video your next ride and observe what your hands are doing and if your horse is taking the contact with a open throatlatch and nose in front of the vertical. Keep a look out on the Equitopia website for some special videos and offers coming soon to our members to expand and illuminate more on this message:)
