23.01.2022 Haven't posted much lately because I'm booked with work well into next year, but this job really deserves some old fashioned showing off! I had to completely rebuild, repolish and recover this late Victorian smokers chair in the ever popular Muirhead Lustrana leather. New padding and no foam, this was reupholstered with traditional flock, coconut fibre and horse hair. This type of work is slow and laborious, taking all of the hardest learnt skills from over 30 years in the trade, but the results are worth it.
21.01.2022 Originally built 20/11/1971 (4 days before I was born!), this bed settee has been completely rebuilt and upholstered at Summerfields in a Warwick fabric, with white vinyl piping and buttons to add a further level of retro. The old polish was stripped and redone with Osmo oil by Rob at Inwood Restoration. Summerfield upholstery is still booked with several months of work, but always happy to book in more, for those who are willing to wait for a top quality craftsmans job. No fb messages, all enquiries call 0416218740, or drop in to 4 Eames st Albury NSW, and look at our huge range of upholstery fabric samples.
19.01.2022 These Edwardian dining chairs have been restored at Summerfields in a Warwick fabric. Restoring these chairs can be a huge job, you can spend more than 10 hours on one chair to address the upholstery, polish and framework properly (especially when a backyarder has driven nails into every loose joint that needs to come apart). The advantage of this restoration investment is a comfortable dining chair that will last for decades. The classic Australian Edwardian dining chairs were often made of blackwood, with lower stretcher rails that strengthen the legs and heavy 7/16 dowels , which along with their robust squarer construction, made them a stronger design than much of the earlier Victorian furniture. In fact, a typical set of Edwardian diners restored properly will probably be the strongest dining chairs you could get.
19.01.2022 I restored this little chair recently as a display piece for our fabric sample showroom , covered in Richmond Ochre by Prestigious Textiles UK. Note the scalloped back shape that I added to really emphasise the flowing art deco design. You could imagine a little chair like this in a theatre foyer, the back and seat are the same type of frame as the old flip up cinema seats, therefore I suspect this was made by the same manufacturers that made theatre seats. We're still ...very heavily booked with work for most of the year, but I will start booking in new jobs in a few months. Right now my books are closed until I catch up on this covid rush a bit! Our fabric showroom is open, if you are looking for upholstery fabrics (many of which are also suitable for drapery) we have the largest range of upholstery fabric samples in the area at 4 Eames st Albury. 18.01.2022 I often get asked to make footstools and ottomans for customers. This is one I'm making for home, toying with some shapes and ideas.
18.01.2022 Late 60s retro lounge chairs, repaired and recovered in a Warwick fabric with white vinyl piping and buttons. See before pics in old white vinyl. Still booked with work for over a year, probably will look at booking in more jobs about February/March.
18.01.2022 Old freedom couch reupholstered in tough Fibreguard velvet from Zepel fabric. Fibreguard is a range of easy clean, stain resistant fabrics for heavy family and commercial use. All the foam and seat webbing have been replaced in this couch. As we see in most manufacturers furniture, the original seat elastic webbing was a 2 stripe (back grade)webbing , and seriously underwebbed. It's now been replaced with proper 4 stripe (seat grade) webbing, that'll ensure the seat last...s triple the time of the old saggy one. The old deteriorating foam has been replaced with Dunlop aussie made foam. We can't compete on price with foreign made upholstery, but we can restore older pieces to give you the best product you can get, made by tradespeople that live in our local community. We care about our workmanship and strive to give our customers the best.
16.01.2022 Seagrass padding, oh joy!! All new seat for this job.
16.01.2022 Made these from scratch recently, pair of retro style oval vinyl footstools, special order for a customer.

14.01.2022 Before and after, a circa 1920 Chesterfield gets a full rebuild makeover in Warwick Fabrics Australia Husk Abyss , with Husk Ice piping. The customer requested chrome studs, a taylored skirt and the full seat to be turned into a cushion seat, totally customised to thier wishes. Still have the matching chairs to restore, booked up with work for over a year now, just keep plugging away and feeling grateful to have plenty of work.
13.01.2022 Complete restoration of ladies and gents chairs circa 1880s. There's a lot of pics showing the building up of the traditional padding. The original diamond pattern was changed because it was an extremely uncomfortable shape. I put alot of thought into devising a new pattern that would emphasise the narrow oval backs and ended up doing a style known as elongated diamond buttoning. The fabric is Alanis Seafoam from Warwick Fabrics.

10.01.2022 Unusual sleepy hollow morris chair, arts and crafts style circa 1915, completely restored and covered in Muirhead Lustrana leather from Scotland. Still have about a years work, some really interesting jobs coming up in the next few months.
08.01.2022 This pair of cabriole legged footstools were matched with the 2 wingback chairs I posted recently, covered in the same old floral 1960s velvet. My customer was thrilled with the chairs, finished in a Sanderson geometric jacquard, and now these restored stools will add another level of comfort and style. 07.01.2022 Interesting job, had to turn this very old, hand woven Iranian camel bag into an ottoman for the customer. Lots of restitching the leather bindings, darning a few holes, and made a padded frame to slip inside. Then the fun part was hand stitching the carpet like flaps up with a curved needle.(had pretty sore fingers after that effort!). Customer was really pleased with the finished result, and although it is quite strong, I'm glad she indicated that its more for display than putting feet up on! We're now booked with work for over a year, Facebook enquiries are not responded to, if you have an enquiry for specialised furniture upholstery please call or text 0416 218 740. Genuine enquiries only please.
07.01.2022 Building up a ‘horse collar ‘ hand sewn edge in a late Victorian ladies chair back. The edge is made of coconut fibre wrapped in hessian, and hand stitched into shape. It has to be quite firm and even, to ensure the finished result is smooth and neat. Hours of preparation go into traditionally upholstered pieces, using techniques that are hundreds of years old and take years to master. I love the look of a beautifully made edge, the naturalness, neatness and skill that it takes, then padded over and covered. Sometimes when I open an old seat and come across a beautifully made century old edge, I admire the hidden craftsmanship that another tradesmen proudly made, admired and covered over so long ago.
05.01.2022 These 2 lounge chairs go with the Chesterfield couch I posted a while ago. These were majorly altered to turn them from a full seat to a reversible cushioned seat, studded facings and full tailored skirts, all to the customers personal specifications. The fabric is Warwick Fabrics Australia Husk Abyss, with Husk Ice piping. Summerfield upholstery is currently booked for about a year with work. Any genuine enquiries please phone - due to our workload we cannot respond to Facebook and email enquiries. Thanks for looking, and remember- furniture restoration is an ultimate form of recycling, you get a better quality product , support very local manufacturing and save the planet from a bit more landfill!
05.01.2022 1930s bridge chairs and an original 1940s Parker Knoll chair (in raspberry pink). Love the Zig Zag velvet fabric from Zepel Fabrics, really gives that plain bridge chair an Art Deco zing!
04.01.2022 Almost destined for landfill, reborn comfy classics, rebuilt to last another lifetime. These retro wingback chairs circa 1960s, had never been recovered and were still super comfortable, despite being around 60 years old. The customer reluctantly accepted them for free at a garage sale when the seller told them they were headed for the tip if they weren't gone by the end of the day. They took them home and used them for a while, discovered they were very comfortable a...nd decided to get them reupholstered in this stylish geometric Sanderson fabric. The bones were high quality, full sprung seat, cotton wadding padding and a solid frame, all needed attention after decades of use, but has been rebuilt properly to long outlast anything you'd buy new today. Summerfield upholstery has been reupholstered quality and antique furniture in Albury for 3 generations since 1946.
