25.01.2022 I saw this video at a "How to feed your baby solids?" course. It's a wonderful video which sums up how to look after your child's first teeth while also addressing the emotions that most parents feel when their child has dental issues. It's balanced, and correct, and is hosted by the delightful Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. If you aren't into Fluoride for whatever reason, that's ok. The bulk of the science supports its use for the protection of teeth with very few negative outcome...s. And if you choose not to use it, then you make up for any issues by doing the right things regarding diet, brushing and flossing. However, if your kid has alot of dental issues, it's a bit tough on the kid to not use a fluoride toothpaste when it is cheap, effective, and safer than tooth decay. Enjoy the video.

23.01.2022 Congrats to Sandra on completing her certificate 3 in dental assisting! We are all so proud of you.

20.01.2022 Thanks for being patient and staying safe. We are back to performing all procedures with restrictions only for people who have symptoms or are in a risk group. If you are in a risk group, then please call and we can make arrangements. .

19.01.2022 If you are undergoing orthodontic treatment at this time, Dr Serina Ma is personally assessing each case. Most appointments are being postponed however all orthodontic treatment is still being monitored. At present, we are performing monitoring using photos sent by email and telephone consults. Stay safe.

16.01.2022 Due to the increasing rates of COVID-19 infection, our priority is to protect our patients and the wider community. There is a high risk of transmitting COVID-19 in a dental environment and we also know that asymptomatic healthy patients can carry and transmit the disease. Our goal Summer Hill Smiles has always been to work in the best interest of our patients, and due to the nature of COVID-19, we do not see how we can conduct our normal practices and keep our patients and o...ur staff safe. Because of this, we are postponing all non-urgent dental appointments and we hope that you will be understanding about the reason why we are doing this. We will be only seeing patients who have TRAUMA, INFECTION or are in PAIN. We will be available for telephone consultations and help you remotely triage emergencies and also post out prescriptions for medications and dental products. During this time, all telephone consultations will be free of charge. If you do need to attend our surgery, we have implemented additional precautions including use of a hydrogen peroxide mouthrinse and disinfection of all surfaces including the reception and waiting area after all patients. Hand sanitiser is available for all patients to use upon entry to the practice. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR PATIENTS This is a difficult and uncertain time for our family practice and all small businesses. However, we take our contribution to flattening the curve seriously, as well as our commitment to your safety. We are so grateful for your understanding and support.

15.01.2022 The academy of guys who look at gums in America have an official statement about the flossing scandal. Essentially.. they still think flossing is good for you. Exercise for the day: Google "gum disease images"

14.01.2022 What Fluoride looks like in nature from the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum

13.01.2022 There are lots of great numbers in this interview of Professor Evans from Sydney Uni. He found an 80% reduction in caries using no-drill options and his Caries Management System. And the true but cliched tag line at the end. ... "Prevention is always better than a cure." I like it.

12.01.2022 We are currently having issues with Optus. Please call 02 8320 0550 if you would like to make an appointment.

12.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Summer Hill Smiles has moved from level 3 to level 2 restrictions. This means we are now open for most orthodontic treatment. Also, General dentistry is open for most procedures however no cleans. There are a few changes we've made to keep everyone safe. ... This includes a safer waiting room, and spaced scheduling of patients. It's not a full reopen but we are getting there. It will be nice to see all of you once again.

11.01.2022 Theres now a soft drink tax in the UK. I dont like government intervention... but there it is. Im sure the tax will be a tiny amount relative to the amount the government pays for all the sugar related diseases in the public system.

04.01.2022 Dentistry robots making teeth. Surprisingly mesmerising to watch.

03.01.2022 Crazy dental research! Higher coffee leads to slightly reduced amount of gum disease. Also, so does flossing. Ha! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24359164

01.01.2022 Hi, due to Covid-19 most orthodontists in Australia have stopped routine appointments for the month of April. But if you've lost one of those little coloured rings around the brackets, you can reattach some of them yourself. Here is a video by Dr Serina Ma on how to do it with floss. All you will need is floss and some disinfected nail scissors. Please contact us on (02) 8068 6655, before attempting this, to make sure it is appropriate for your situation.
