25.01.2022 Going back to work after WFH? What about your dog? This can be a very stressful time for your pet. Some of them have LOVED you being at home & some (especially cats) have hated it! But now youre spending more time away and some will adapt to this after a few days and others may not adapt so easily. We asked our friends at Sydney Animal Behaviour Service (http://www.sabs.com.au/)how you can help your dog adjust.... And they said: it would be great to start increasing how much time you are out each day little by little. You can start by going on outings without your dog. Even leaving the dog home alone now while you get groceries is a way to keep the dog accustomed to being alone for periods, even if it isnt for as long as usual. Another great idea is to get some monitoring device to video the dog and check for any signs of distress. Pacing, crying, salivating, being unable to eat until you come home again are subtle signs of anxiety. Of course destroying doors & furniture can be anxiety & panic attacks rather than naughtiness. 24.01.2022 IMPORTANT LEPTO UPDATE FROM NORTH SHORE VETS This week North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre also has identified a case of Leptospirosis in our local area of the Lower North Shore. This is the first case we have detected from our surrounding communities. Leptospirosis, in dogs, initially causes very non-specific signs such as lethargy, elevated body temperature, vomiting, and diarrhea. It often progresses to symptoms consistent with liver and kidney failure. Dogs be...come infected by being in contact with urine from rats or indirectly via contaminated water or soil. They can also become infected by hunting and eating rats. The outcome of confirmed cases in Australia has not been as encouraging as in North America or Europe. Our patient presented with a peracute infection, developed anuric renal failure and had to be euthanised. Our current recommendation is that if clients live within a 5km radius of the Artarmon/Crows Nest area, or frequent those areas, they should vaccinate their dog(s) against Leptospirosis. This is in accordance with guidelines issued last year by the University of Sydney, following the initial leptospirosis outbreak . . . If you are unsure whether your dog is protected against leptospirosis please contact us and we can let you know. For first time vaccines against leptospirosis, dogs will need a booster in 2-4 weeks to get them fully protected. 21.01.2022 Help Charlie the Indian ring-neck find a home We had initially treated Charlie for bird attack injuries. His owner however has decided that they are not the best home for him and have surrendered him to our clinic to find a more suitable forever home. He is not very hand-tamed so will need someone who is patient and willing to love him regardless.... Dr Sandra has finished all his treatment so he will need no further medication or vet visits for his initial injuries. Due to the fact that he was attacked by another bird, Charlie should not be kept with other birds. Please share so Charlie can live the rest of his life in a loving home! 17.01.2022 **UPDATE: current owner found and reunited :-) ** URGENTLY SEEKING OWNER OF STRAY BURMESE A member of public handed this very senior Burmese cat after finding it in Croydon.... The cat is chipped however owners on chip are a dead end. It is in need of vet treatment - Council tell us to contact RSPCA or put back on the street, RSPCA tell us that its not their responsibility. With this cats current condition there is no way we would put back on the street. We are only legally allowed to provide first aid since this cat is technically owned/chipped. Please help us get this beautiful cat home!!!

We want to educate people about the benefits of canine massage as well as help their furry friends. This is why we sent one of our nurses to Melbourne to study and practice CMT. 12.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING DESEXING YOUR CATS As of July 1st 2020, NSW Office of Local Government have made it mandatory for all owners to have their cats desexed by 4months of age. This means that our clinic is in line with all the NSW Governments COVID-19 safety recommendations and will be completely up to date with any changes + updates. 09.01.2022 Confirmed LEPTOSPIROSIS case in Newtown: University of Sydney has confirmed that they have euthanised a dog critically ill with leptospirosis. Just a timely reminder to make sure you keep your dogs up to date with this vaccine. Call us if you arent sure :)

08.01.2022 Help Maggies Rescue help Sam. He was found by family in home alone, owner presently in jail. Family has dumped him at Summer Hill Village Vet. Council wont take him as he will cost too much and technically wasnt handed in as a stray. RSPCA also not interested. Luckily Maggies Rescue have found him a foster carer, although they also will not be able to rehome him if council wont transfer ownership of his microchip. While this bureaucratic debacle is being sorted it would be great if folks can donate a bit of money to Maggies Rescue to help his medical care. (Skin disease, eye surgery, arthritis). 06.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW?... "The Wrath of Grapes" ...yep, grapes are poisonous to dogs. Raisins too! We dont know why, but they have been confirmed to have caused renal or kidney failure in many dogs. I have a friend who has had dogs her whole life. When I told her about a poor dog we had in the clinic recently who died spectacularly from grape ingestion, she was very surprised. This friend has owned dogs her whole life and had never heard of this. I thought if she doesnt know then ot...her people may not know. On further investigation it seems this link was only discovered in 1999 and took a while to research. To this day we still dont know what makes some grapes tolerable and others toxic in tiny amounts. Best practice is to NEVER give your dog grapes, sultanas or raisins, ever! If your pet does accidentally ingest them please take them straight to your vet or emergency hospital for treatment as early detection can be treated. 03.01.2022 **REHOMED** FAN TAIL DOVE LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME We have been caring for this stray fan-tail dove after he was transferred to us from another vet with a broken wing (prev vet tried to track his ID band to no luck)... The little guy enjoyed months of free-loading at the clinic with abundant seeds however his wing is now fully healed and it is time for him to move on from us! Due to his previously broken wing, Fancy-Pigeon (as we have affectionately dubbed him), is no longer able to fly so he is best suited to a home that will ensure he will not get eaten by any cats or dogs! Contact the clinic if you are interested in meeting him, he has quite the personality :-)
