23.01.2022 We enjoyed our first annual Christmas Party at #SummerHouseMackay yesterday afternoon. It was cool and relaxing under the trees, watching the kids play. The best thing was that none of each of the kids looked like they knew, understood or cared about each other’s differences, and played well together, as it should be. As each event progresses we learn more about the space and our equipment. Next year I’ll be focusing on funding more outdoor settings that can stay set up... under the trees, and low tables for ground picnics. If you know of anyone who received any new settings for Xmas and will be giving away their old ones, please think of us Thanks to Bec from Mingle Events Co. for handling all the details for me, it was lovely to enjoy the event talking with friends and watching the fun. 22.01.2022 Thankyou to CRU - Community Resource Unit Ltd. who sent us these great resources. I wish I had enough for people to take with them.... but come grab a coffee, curl up on our couches and read some beautiful family experiences of inclusion in schools. If you ever get the chance to go to a CRU workshop, I strongly encourage parents, principals, teachers, aids and anyone else interested in being inspired to think differently and pave a new path to a more inclusive community, which starts early in our schools

19.01.2022 Heads up to all Mackay local schools, and parents of students! Special Children's Christmas Party Mackay have emailed out SCCP invitation requests (the invites will be given as usual, but an online try booking registration process will occur this year by the looks). Please remind your school if your child is 12 or under and has a diagnosed disability or life threatening illness or condition requiring significant on-going medical treatment or hospitalisation. There are going to be some changes due to Covid-19... DIAMONDS.... check the secret fb page for more info, I'll be uploading the letter soon :)

18.01.2022 This year, due to COVID-19 we have had to make some changes - the 2020 Mackay Special Children's Christmas Party has regrettably been cancelled, but we do have ...lots of Christmas presents for all the special children, which we invite everyone who has received a gift voucher to come and collect from us in Mackay on Friday 20th November and Saturday 21st November (8am-4.30pm). There will also be a Special Children's Virtual Christmas Party held online with all of our regular entertainers and celebrities a little closer to Christmas we'll keep you posted when we have fixed the date for this party. If you have received a Gift Voucher please be aware 1) There is no Party. There will be no activities or entertainment at the venue. 2) You drive through to collect your gifts. Kind of like McDonalds Drive Thru but without the fries. Please DO NOT leave your vehicle or a whole different set of COVID-19 protocols have to be applied. 3) You DO NOT need to register to come and collect your gifts. Just come along WITH YOUR VOUCHER during the times listed on the back of the voucher and we will be there. We completely understand that everyone is a bit confused and truly appreciate you working with us to help bring as much fun as we can to the children.

18.01.2022 We've applied for funding for a quality shade sail for our play area. We couldn't just go with a Bunnings one, because it has to be Galvanised, engineered and certified. Our quote is $6,314 in total, we've applied for $5,000 - so we are $1,314 short. I'm looking for a partial fund, if anyone knows of a business who might like to contribute to the costs? - we have DGR for tax deductions There will be 2 stages to our shade sails, this is the first sail, but the posts will allow for additional sails to be installed.

I still have heaps of plants I can pot to take to Summer House when we are there more regularly.... if you have any nice pots you don’t want, but are too good to dump, I’d love them at Summer House (2-4 Casey Ave, Mackay. 13.01.2022 The prezzies from Flagon & Dragon Mackay are starting to arrive Defibrilators in places where any kids play is a no-brainer for me.... and years ago, I was responsible for the grant that put one in PCYC Mackay. Our new one arrived for #SummerHouseMackay today and Im so chuffed!! Personally, my son has had to be recussitated by a defibrillator (several times in fact), so I am so appreciative we have one of these at our centre, and hope we never need to use one- but if we do we will be prepared #MackayPride

11.01.2022 I met this legend in March, and it wasnt long before we were hatching a plan to host her in Mackay! As a public speaker, her passion for inclusive education and presuming competence is infectious, and I think it would be an injustice not to bring her to Mackay. Days later COVID wrecked our plans, but we await the day we can see this legend live and in person at #SummerHouseMackay. Shes a maverick and daredevil and I love following her adventures!

We have been approved $5,000 towards the new huge shadesail structure Thankyou to The Crosby Foundation for their continued generosity to our little charity!

10.01.2022 Well, it's facebook official... Today, Flagon & Dragon Mackay announced a grant of just over $62,000 to our little charity. Kelly made the announcement at our official opening on Thursday. This money will be used to purchase several pieces of equipment which will be used at @SummerHouseMackay. Thankyou to the sponsors, the event attendees and to the decision makers. Finance Update here... NB as this is an operational expense this is expected to be absorbed as a business (or charity). We aren’t registering with NDIS, although those who are Self Managed and Plan Managed will be able to use our services. We don’t tick the Childcare Centre, Neighbourhood Centre or Disability Service box so our P&P etc must be tailored to our needs. From my days living in a remote Aboriginal community in NT, I acknowledge the importance of a Smoking Ceremony as a blessing to the land, to cleanse the space and make a pathway for a brighter future, and to set the intention of true community spirit in all we do. Philip did a moving Welcome to Country. It was a pleasure chatting with him, and I'm looking forward to many other opportunities to collaborate on meaningful projects for our community.
