24.01.2022 Thank you to all our Summit Fam for all the well wishes during the fire crisis. Its been an intense few days with the fire burning near the hostel and an evacuation but we are all ok. It was shocking to go into town today and see how close it came to so many houses. We are so lucky to have amazing firefighters who helped to save so much. We feel very grateful today.

24.01.2022 Summit Backpackers is recruiting for APPLE THINNING work in Stanthorpe in southern QLD. Work is paid at the usual hourly rate $24.36/hour. Work in vegetables and strawberries is also available. The hostel is 3-bed and 4-bed share and costs $165/week. It's a lovely place to meet new friends, cook a BBQ, play sport, chill out with a beer, do some yoga or use our gym in the afternoons after work. 24.01.2022 Incentives for people already in Australia who are keen to do some farm work... (Please note farm jobs still require a strong work ethic). We are seeking workers for the 2020 season in Stanthorpe in southern Qld. At the peak of the season this area requires approximately 4000 workers. The season runs from November to May and there is a LOT of work on offer during this period. ***School leavers***... From 30 November 2020 to 31 December 2021, a person who earns $15,000 through employment in the agricultural sector will be considered independent for Youth Allowance (student) or ABSTUDY purposes, if claiming from 1 March 2021. ***Relocation assistance*** From 1 November 2020, relocation assistance will be available to people who relocate to harvest and regional areas to take up agricultural work, including Australians who are not receiving income support and those with the right to work in Australia. Those relocating to take up short-term agricultural work may be eligible to receive up to $6,000 if they are an Australian worker; or $2,000 if they are a visa holder with general work rights, not restricted to an employer or a type of work, to work in Australia. We have enlisted extra help with cleaning. All of our current guests have been advised not to travel beyond the Granite Belt area. 11.01.2022 We are devastated to hear from so many backpackers who are struggling with the loss of their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Its truly heartbreaking. However, we fully support social distancing measures to slow the spread of this virus. As such, some things have changed at our hostel because we want to take every precaution we can to stop the virus spreading into our hostel. We are not accepting any new bookings. This may change in the future but, for now, we are not... accepting any new people into the hostel. Backpackers who want to come in the future can register their interest on our website and we will make an announcement when things open up again. Well, that's what we say because every year we see a bunch of strangers who do their farm work together and then they go off to live and travel with their new friends from The Summit. 06.01.2022 Its that time again.... *au pair search* We are looking for someone to help us out running our busy working hostel and looking after our cute little kiddies.... Duties will include: *Playing with Banjo (almost 3) and Roxy (16 months), plus some light house chores. *Helping out around the hostel with admin and logistics and, if you want extra hours, cleaning work. I am available all day to help with the kids, I really just need an off-sider while my husband works in the day. We are located just outside Stanthorpe in southern Queensland at a working hostel, The Summit Backpackers, so there will be plenty of opportunity for you to socialise with other backpackers. We are 2.5 hours west of Brisbane. We will provide accommodation, food, shared use of a car, and salary. 30-40 hours/week. This position is not eligible for the second-year visa but it may be possible for the successful candidate to do some occasional farm days when we are not too busy. What we are looking for: Someone energetic with a bright, bubbly personality who genuinely enjoys working with young children, experience with kids would be good. A sense of humour and work ethic would help you in this role. Non-smoker preferred. Start next week, after October 28, negotiable. 06.01.2022 We had an awesome BBQ this afternoon with plenty of sausages and felafel and the first Volleyball Sunday for the season. The IRA team won the tournament over Something Exotic while the Germans came third and the Mexicanos took home the wooden spoon. A big thanks to Johnny and Chris for cooking the BBQ after taking home the Worst Room award at this weeks room inspections.
