15.01.2022 Get to know Dr. Glen Hastie Glen has been a veterinarian since 1988 and his first job was right here, at Sunbury Animal Hospital, 31 years ago. He no longer consults as a vet, but he absolutely loves mentoring our staff and ensuring the practice runs smoothly. Glen is known at the clinic for being a calm and concise leader (and sometimes for his awkward jokes). Glen has been pivotal in ensuring that our clinic could remain open during COVID19 and ensured that we would kno...w exactly how to adapt to ensure everyone’s safety. Glen is well known among many of our long-standing clients, not just due to his many years here, but for being a memorable, experienced and empathetic vet. Glen has helped shape our clinic throughout the years and has had a massive hand in making it what it is today. Glen lives on a 130 acre farm with his partner, Bree, where they breed and show Highland Cattle and Highland Ponies (this is rather an obsession of Glen's, not just a hobby). Glen and Bree also have a menagerie of other pets, including 3 dogs (Shih Tzu X, Black Lab & Border Collie X), 4 cats (moggies), a ferret, 2 pigs, some chooks and lots of cows and horses. When Glen has any spare time between managing our clinic and his Highland animals he enjoys playing tennis, squash and golf. Glen's favourite holiday destination is Scotland (of course!) - both because of his Scottish ancestry, but also because of the aforementioned obsession with Highland cattle and Highland ponies.

11.01.2022 Thunder came in for a teeth trim today! DID YOU KNOW? Rabbits and guinea pigs teeth grow continuously and can sometimes over grow causing dental issues Sometimes their teeth need to be trimmed down with a dental drill to prevent the pain and discomfort associated with dental disease.

10.01.2022 Get to know Nurse Donna Donna has been a vet nurse for 3 years and is also our Practice Manager. She absolutely loves having lots of cuddles with our furry friends as well as continuing to learn and adapt in her job. Working as a vet nurse, you expect each day to be different, and she really likes that the job keeps her on her toes. She is also very proud that our entire team always does their utmost best to help our patients, clients and wildlife. Donna is known for bein...g a motivated leader of the practice and is also very approachable and down to earth in nature. She is incredibly resilient and has soldiered us through these tough COVID19 times, overseeing many new protocols and combating many hurdles along the way, all to keep everyone safe. She can also have a wicked sense of humour at times and is always down to have a laugh, which can be very uplifting to the team. Donna loves spending time with friends and family and loves to paint in her spare time when she ever gets any! She has a 6 year old son who fills up most of her spare time with Lego and dinosaurs, as well as lots of fun facts about everything and anything! Her first job was at an old hospital pharmacy when she was 15 she really enjoyed the job as it, like vet nursing, had a lot of variety. Donna has 2 pets at home, an adorable and hyper 3 year old Jug (pug X JRT) named Pickles and a beautiful 3 year old tortoiseshell cat named Pepper. Her absolute favourite holiday destination is Mauritius. She went there in 2011 and highly recommends that every one should go the people, hospitality and scenery were all amazing!

08.01.2022 Get to know Dr. Leighton Burger Leighton has been here at Sunbury Animal Hospital for 3.5 years and has been a practising vet for 6 years. Before his veterinary career began, Leighton spent many years in the human medical field, but then realised that animals are much cuter and made the switch. He does not regret his decision in the slightest! Leighton's favourite parts of being a vet include all the puppies, kittens, old doggos, old kitties, all the healthy pets and help...ing all the sickies. You name it, he loves it all! He also really enjoys the traitorous looks of disappointment that his old Golden Retriever, Skye, gives him when he comes home smelling of so many different animals. Leighton is known at the clinic for his sarcasm, silly jokes and easy going nature, whilst also being a great team player, caring and friendly to everyone pets, pet-parents and staff alike. In his spare time, he likes to dabble in musical hobbies. Having grown up in North Queensland, there wasn't much to do other than join the army or play in bands (as he saw it), so he chose the latter. Although some time has passed since he's played on stage, he still enjoys occupying his time making music. Otherwise, he considers himself a bit of a homebody likes watching Netflix, gardening, making poor quality home improvements and cooking. Leighton's first job was at Angus and Robertson Bookworld, back when there were many real-life book stores that you could walk into and browse. He was paid the princely sum of $5.54 an hour! Leighton currently lives with his wife and his gorgeous 11 year old Golden Retriever, Skye. Skye's only been in the family for 12 months. She came to them at the right time after losing their previous dog (and the reason he decided to become a vet) last year. Leighton loves to travel when he can and his favourite destinations so far have been; Iceland, the Scottish Highlands and Japan.
