24.01.2022 Some years ago this was posted on the S.F.C.Google search. I think I wrote it. You will see a list of Sunbury players who went on to VFL/AFL. One of the most recent was Matty McLelland who came back & played in the 1997 Flag - our first year in the Ballarat League. I will attempt to find out more about all, these guys when I have time. Thanks also to Cathy Lanyon & Mark Cooke who advised James Sicily (Hawthorn) vplayed Under 14's & 16's at Sunbury, before transferring to Keil...or. DOUG STEEL Sunbury Football Club is one of the oldest football clubs in Victoria (Australia). Founded in 1879, Sunbury won its first Premiership in 1892 in the Riddell District Football League. In 1997 Sunbury joined the Ballarat Football League winning the Premiership that year and continued its winning streak in 1998, 1999 & 2004. Sunbury Football Club has won 25 Premierships to date and remains one of the strongest Division One Country Football Teams in Victoria. In excess of 20 local Sunbury Football Club players have gone on to play VFL/AFL including D.Mounsey, J.Walsh, Stan Thomas, Jimmy Bayliss, Des Baird, George Naylor, John Hoiles, Noel Long, Bob Foreman, Barry Palmer, Grattan Rigg, J.Sweeney, Mick Breen, Mick Stafford, Percy Burdeu, Dean Lupson, Matt McLelland, Mark Johnson, David Johnson, Daryl Griffin, Cameron Wight, Matthew White & Cameron Gutherie The Club has also provided the following League Best & Fairest winners: Seniors: Barry Palmer (1955 & Thirds in the same year ), Ken Conduit (1975), Tas Turley (1988), Steve Nash (1990), Andrew Willmott (1992), Matt Power (1995), Mark Power (1996) ,HaamiWilliams (1999), JustinLewis (2003) Alik Magin 2019 Thirds: Brant Dunshea (1990), Corey Phillips (1996)

12.01.2022 NETBALL COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT The Sunbury Lions FNC would like to welcome new A&B grade coach Josh Burns, Josh has played at a very high level , along with som...e coaching experience alongside respected mentors. He has great energy and enthusiasm and looks forward to implementing his unique style into our netball program. Renee & Tami return to the Lion's Den and hope to build on their coaching experience Janine was appointed for the 2020 season, and returns for the 2021 season, Janine has a vast playing & coaching background , along with great knowledge of the game . A coach for our E grade team, is to be confirmed. We would like to wish all coaches the very best in 2021 & feel a new energy and excitement approaching within our netball program. Josh Burns A& B Grade Netball Coach I’m very excited to be joining Sunbury Lions for season 2021, as the head coach for the A + B grades. I’ve always loved the sport from a young age, and it’s where I’ve felt most comfortable. After spending 8 years playing state representative netball & with my 4 years' experience representing Australia , I’ve wanted to launch myself into a new role of coaching, Hopefully this great opportunity will allow me to showcase my knowledge of the game. I was never particularly interested in umpiring, but over the past couple of years, I also took up umpiring , which provided me an even better understanding of netball, I believe you can never really know enough. This has been a long-awaited journey for me, and I’m very thankful to have the opportunity Renee Hulls C grade Netball Coach This will be my fourth year at the lions.. in my first year coaching I was fortunate enough to coach c grade to a premiership. Once again in 2019 I was fortunate to coach the u19s and c grade and both falling just short, losing the preliminary final I am looking forward to 2021 as a playing coach of c grade hopefully guiding us to another final's series . Tammi Hardwick D Grade Netball Coach I have been a Sunbury Lions player since 2013 I first started coaching D grade in 2019 and unfortunately the team just missed out on playing finals. I really enjoyed the coaching role and being part of the journey with the girls and hopes to take the team further in 2021. Janine Hodgson Under 19s Netball Coach After many years of playing netball, Janine turned her attention to coaching and has coached junior representative teams for 4 years. She is passionate about developing young girls and building their self-confidence. Janine became Sunbury Lions under 19’s coach in 2020 and although the season did not go ahead, she is looking forward to bringing through our next group of U19 girls and future Lions netballers.

12.01.2022 On behalf of the Sunbury Lions Football Netball Club and the Sunbury Football Netball Club Inc. Juniors we wish to congratulate Cam Guthrie of the Geelong Footb...all Club on receiving the great honour of being selected in the 2020 All-Australian side. Cam has had a great season and was deservedly rewarded. Cam started with the Sunbury Lions Juniors back in 2002 and played through to 2008 where he then pushed onto the Calder Cannons. In season 2010 Cam won the Calder Cannons Best and Fairest and was selected pick 23 by the Cats. He’s played 178 games for the Cats with Finals starting this week he could also add a Premiership to his so far Stellar career. 07.01.2022 SUNBURY FOOTBALL CLUB 1999 . A NEW GUY TO THE CLUB PLAYED HIS FIRST GAME IN ROUND 9 ON THE QUEENS BIRTHDAY MONDAY 14TH JUNE ON A WINDY RAINY DAY AT DAYLESFORD'S JUBILEE PARK . WORE JUMPER NUMBER 44. TURNED OUT TO BE A PRETTY HANDY PICK UP TOO. PLAYED ONLY 10 HOME & AWAY GAMES FOR THE SEASON BUT SHARED THE B.F.L. BEST & FAIREST WITH DARLEY'S SHANE WARD, WON SUNBURY'S B & F AND WAS PART OF THE 1999 S.F.C. PREMIERSHIP TEAM.... The team player numbers for the Daylesford game didn't have him listed as he was picked up late, after time limit for the Football record amendments had passed. We are indebted to Scott McNaughton for bringing his future brother in law to the Club. I think Tony Crammond may have had a hand in it too.

03.01.2022 **MEMBER UPDATE** Dear Members, The SFSC Committee would like to update you on the Club reopening timeframe. Given the recent announcements by the State Governm...ent, it is unlikely that the Club will reopen prior to November 23rd, when hospitality limits are scheduled to be meaningfully relaxed. The Committee will continue to monitor the situation with a view to reopening earlier if circumstances permit. We will provide further updates as the situation develops and reopening timing can be confirmed. The shutdown has placed significant financial burden on the Club, which was already under financial pressure prior to COVID. To improve the financial sustainability of the club, the Board is using this shutdown time to look at options to secure the long-term viability of the Club, including a restructure. These options are being worked through now and the Committee will communicate the outcomes to members in due course (and prior to reopening). Any queries can be directed to [email protected]. We hope members are faring well in these trying times and look forward to sharing a beverage and a laugh together at the Club as soon as possible.
