02.01.2022 #BCSVThrowbackThursday Back in the 1970s Sunbury was still considered a country town rather than an outer suburb of Melbourne. Like most towns it had a local sc...hool bus operator, W.J. Treweek who ran from premises at 105 Evans Street. He had acquired two runs from Fred Brien, brother of Ron Brien of Brien’s Comfort Coaches. Vehicles during the 1970s were a mix of Bedfords and Fords. Treweek sold out to a new operator Donric Pty Ltd (Don McKenzie and Richard Baird) trading as Sunbury Bus Service as from 13/3/1980. Soon after the first trial of a town service took place, requiring just one bus. This was ATI 525, a Ford R192 with 1971 Motor Body Specialists body ex Department of Supply via dealer Norm Beechey. It was downseated to 33 to allow prams etc to be loaded. This bus also introduced the famous Essendon colours still in use today. Don was a former captain of the side in 1969 as part of a 15 season rein at the club. Outside footy, he spent his early career as a vehicle inspector with the Country Roads Board. Another early bus to Sunbury was BBZ 740, a 1963 Bedford SB3 Comair purchased from the State Electricity Commission of Victoria still in SECV livery. This bus is now preserved by Donric in full Sunbury livery.

01.01.2022 A massive Happy Birthday to Roy Vincent on his 80th birthday. Roy has been a coach driver with Sunbury Coaches for the last 19 years and at 80 years of age, is still one of our fittest and most capable long-distance drivers on the roster. Isolation made celebrations difficult, but that didn’t stop a small cohort of Roy’s colleagues from dropping in today to sing Happy Birthday and drop off a birthday cake and some gifts. Enjoy your special day, Roy!! Thanks to Angela Brullo Powell and Sue Snez for organising.

01.01.2022 Some of our Sunbury crew have grown a little fluff under their noses this month to support Movember. All monies raised will go to supporting Men’s Health. Well done to guys! Great effort!
