25.01.2022 Match Report ROUND 2 The 1st team were looking to get on the winners list after a close round 1 loss. After losing the toss to Wallan we went out into the field looking for early wickets which we got from the ever reliable Nathan Anderson who has started the season well. Adam Fearnley has been working hard without much luck while Nathan Crosland grabbed 2 wickets and 2 catches. Joshua Sorraghan 2/9 bowled beautifully. Walter Russ and Kingy bowled well early but no so good lat...e as Wallan were able to post a score of 178 which we thought it was abit more than they should have got as 1 wallan batsman was able to do a lot of damage late. The boys worked hard in the field and we were confident of chasing the total. Our chase got off to the worst possible start losing Dylan Caruana (who had just come off a impressive 37) for a duck. Corey and Bradley Walter Fleming 11 put on 40 before Walter fell. Brad has settled into the team nicely and is playing some good cricket. I fell for 2, i had been thinking Corey and i would take the game deep but that wasnt to be our 20 run partnership ended we were 3/63 with a lot of work to do Mark Muir fell for 6 which brought Nandos to the crease. Nandos has been giving a opportunity at number 6 and he made the most of it making 29 and forming a 65 run partnership that put us back in control of match. When Corey Woolley was dismissed for a well made 61 which included some big shots highlighted by a clean pulled shot for 6 the score was 6/136. Corey has continued where he left off last season and he showed his importance to the team, More pleasing has been Coreys fielding. We still had the batters to get the job done but we failed for the 2nd week in a row to finish it off as Ethan Travers 11 was the only other batter to make double figures but Adz was on his way with 6no alot of work for the boys to do but thos group wont shy away from it The Twos needed a better performance with the bat after only making 73 the previous week only 2 batters made double figures last week the returning Jason Gauci 24 and Harry 20 , This week we had 6 with Corey Long 21 leading the way Nathan Dorrington 16no was on his way to a 50 but ran out of overs. Our total this week of 9/126 while not great but it was a improvement and we batted our overs which is a postive also blokes are getting opportunities at the top of the order which is great. Afew more games together and a few more players back and this team could have rapid improvement. Shaggy has been doing a great job as skip sometimes results dont always dictate that. In reply Gisborne got our score 3 wickets down with new player Alistair Smyth grabbing 2 wickets in a eye catching 1st spell for the club. Lachie Smith has also impressed in his 1st couple of games for the Club and will only get better as the season goes on. Wet weather played a part in the game aswell which didnt help us at times.
24.01.2022 Round 1 Results 1st XI lost by 26 runs Rupertswood 8- 178 N.Anderson 3/19 A.Fearnley 1/26... Sunbury Kangaroos all out 152 D. Caruana 37 B. Fleming 30 Nandos was the pic of the bowlers, once again taking a wicket in the first over and helping the ROOS get off to a great start. Just some dropped catches and poor fielding was what cost us in the end, from chasing a smaller target. Dylan Caruana was the pic of the batters with a real come of age knock of 37. He really grabbed his new role as opener and ran with it, unfortunate to not go on with it. The knock has seemed to go to his head though, has been referencing him self to the best thing since Steve smith..... 2ND XI lost by 114 runs Rupertswood 5-187 L. Smith 1/34 J. Sorraghan 1/10 C.Long 1/21 Sunbury Kangaroos All out 73 J.Gauci 24 G.Harris 20 Hard day for the 2nds as they also came up against a hot rupo side. Encouraging signs though there was 2 new debuts in Lachie Smith and Justin Busuttil who both showed good signs. Lucky for Jason gauci returning back to the club from a couple of year stint out at pascoe vale united or this score could of been a lot lower than 73, he chimed in with a gutsy knock of 24 with help from experienced campaigner Glen Harris both teams are ready to BOUNCE back for round 2 where our 3rds kick off there campaign aswell Next week fixtures 1st XI Home vs Wallan 2nd XI away vs Gisborne 3rd XI away vs St Anthonys
