22.01.2022 Western Australia is well represented by a strong ministerial team. 22.01.2022 How many people use ebay and/or PayPal these days? A Yanchep resident recently opened an ebay accounts and listed an item for auction. It was after one of the items sold, that his problems started. Somehow, the Yanchep seller received two emails from different buyers saying they had been successful at the auction and were proceeding to pay for the item.... PROBLEM ONE: One item, two buyers doesn't work. Then overnight, ebay in their strange way decided to 'freeze' the sellers account without providing any reason for their action. PROBLEM TWO: Can't access account to try and sort out the problem/issue out. After some research, ebay have a process where you can ring a 1800 number, use a one time pin number and then talk with an 'ebay consultant'/ PROBLEM THREE: The Yanchep resident did this and then spent more than six hours on the phone getting pased from consultant to consultant; and no satisfaction at all. Our frustrated Yanchep ebayer decided 'ebay was hopeless, untrustworthy and didn't have a customer service policy to help customers'. PROBLEM FOUR: Close my ebay account. After a couple more hours our ebayer decided 'BUGGER' - Close my account, sod off. PROBLEM FIVE: Have you every tried to close an ebay account? These days most ebay accounts have fees attached and are linked to PayPal which also charge fees. Neither will let you close your account if any fees are outstanding, but then to actually close the account, that takes longer and naturally is another few steps in the complicated process. Well, after a total of eight hours, our Yanchep resident is free of ebay and PayPal accounts. It took four phone calls to ebay, lasting nearly seven hours; and only one ten minute call to PayPal to resolve these issues. Why would you deal with ebay? Are there any easier way to sell items on the internet rather ebay or Gumtree?

Water Minister Mia Davies said the "Groundwater Replenishment Scheme" would inject 14 billion litres of wastewater into the Gnangara aquifer after advanced purification at the Craigie treatment plant. Ms Davies also announced the government would begin work early next year to duplicate the Craigie plant and double the scheme's capacity to 28 billion litres annua...lly. The state government wants treated wastewater to supply up to 20 per cent of Perth's drinking water needs by 2060. The practice is already in place in California, which has a big water supply problem. PHOTO: Inside the advanced treatment plant in Craigie.

19.01.2022 Pokémon Go is hijacking people's brain reward systems. You know, those little neuron groups that make you experience pleasure and positive reinforcement? They’re the reason drugs are so addictive and junk food makes us feel so good.... They’re also the reason some Pokémon Go players have quit their jobs, broken into homes, and fallen off cliffs while trying to catch the elusive animated creatures on the augmented reality game. The idea that video games can trigger our reward systems, of course, is nothing new. In one study published in the scientific journal Nature in 1998, researchers found that playing video games can release levels of striatal dopamine (aka that feel-good chemical that triggers your reward system) similar to those found in drug users immediately following the injection of amphetamines. Games like Pokémon Go, in which millions of players go in search of physical locations that have been transformed into virtual landscapes teeming with fictional creatures, it’s not hard to imagine that the potential for stimulation and addiction is vastly intensified. When you’re going out and running around in an environment and you’re getting the video game feedback at the same time, you’re now recruiting a much richer representation, your brain is now sort of falling for it in a much deeper way, even though you know cognitively it’s fake. You know they’re wrong, but there’s a good chunk of your brain that buys them, this is much more compelling and much more addictive. A good chunk of the population just get lost in there because it’s going to be better, its going to be more rewarding compared to real life - So why would you stop?
17.01.2022 Earlier today, the Reserve Bank of Australia cut interest rates to a historic low, moving its cash rate from 1.75 per cent to 1.5 per cent. But only hours after this decision, the Commonwealth Bank said 'it would only pass on about half of the Reserve Bank's official interest rate cut to its home loan customers, a move blamed on higher costs and tougher regulation. Australia's interest rates are among the highest across the globe, many countries have zero per cent, while oth...er are negative per cent interest rates. Our bank are some of the most profitable in the world, yet declare they are struggling - What they are struggling with is how to 'rip off' the customer and pay dividends to their shareholders. Australian banks are a disgrace.

16.01.2022 If you choose to not fill out the Census you will face fines of $180 per day, while those who submit misleading information could pay up to $1800. Next week Australian households will need to provide information on their income, education and backgrounds as part of the compulsory Tuesday 9 August Census. The government collects a snapshot of information about Australians every five years to help estimate the country’s population and to plan services for housing, transport, ed...ucation, industry, hospitals and the environment. Households will need to fill out a form based on where they are on the Tuesday night, but they have until mid-September to submit the information. People who do not complete the survey by mid-September may face a fine of up to $180 per day until the form is returned. In contrast, those who didn’t vote in the Federal Election last month only got fined $20. More than two thirds of Australian households are this year expected to answer the compulsory 61 question survey online, while remote residents will receive the traditional paper version to return through the post. Millions of letters with unique logon codes and online instructions are currently being sent out. In addition 38,000 field officers will doorknock Australian homes as a reminder to submit a paper form or help out the less tech savvy.
16.01.2022 It is being widely reported West Australians are spending more than $2 billion a year funding a 57,000-hit-a-day meth habit. Bunbury is WA’s drug capital, according to the report, with the highest rate of drug use by population. Acting deputy commissioner Michelle Fyfe said police had stopped about 700kg of meth reaching addicts last financial year and the crackdowns had resulted in 1200 people being charged with more than 5000 offences.... Ms Fyfe said authorities needed to work harder to disrupt the criminals, meth use was one of the biggest contributors to crime and violence.
16.01.2022 BEWARE: Some credit card companies are offering '0% for up to 20 months' but there is a catch - There is an annual fee of up to $129 per annum and 20.74% per annum after the 'honeymoon. These offers usually end up sending many card holders in to the bankruptcy procedures. The Sun City News is aware of one Yanchep single unemployed mum who received a $4,000 credit card; and in less than eight months the card provider had upped her limit to nearly $20,000.... This lady is now bankrupt.
06.01.2022 West Australians are being targeted by an aggressive tax phone scam that has escalated in recent weeks. The scam involves fraudsters posing as Australian Taxation Office employees who attempt to force people to pay a fake tax debt by threatening arrest or further action if they don't comply. Acting commissioner for Consumer Protection WA David Hillyard said the ATO would never make phone calls of this nature and no money or financial details should ever be handed over the pho...ne. "If you receive an urgent, aggressive call threatening arrest, legal action or deportation over a tax debt, do not be afraid, it is not really the ATO," he said. "Scammers may call multiple times or leave voicemail or answerphone messages." One WA woman, Maureen, 63, who did not want her last name published, said she was very scared after a scammer telephoned her demanding payment. The ATO scam comes after phone scammers tricked West Australians into buying thousands of dollars worth of iTunes gift card codes in May and June. If you are worried you about a suspicious phone call regarding tax, call the ATO on 1800 008 540. Alternatively call WA ScamNet at Consumer Protection on 1300 30 40 54.

05.01.2022 Telling police that a dead person drove your car will see you charged with criminal offence - Making a false declaration. Very silly way of trying to avoid police photo. Guess who?

04.01.2022 Do you have invisible woman syndrome? Dr Louise Mahler has decades of experience in the business world but says that counts for very little when she’s incognito. Recently I was a keynote speaker at an event, she says. I was in the lift with some attendees and no one knew who I was. I began talking to them and they looked me up and down and turned away without answering.... Then I went in and did my keynote speech and when I finished they were all calling out, ‘Louise, when are you coming to the Netherlands? Louise, how can I work with you further?’ This is the social phenomenon dubbed ‘invisible woman syndrome’, where women in their 40s and 50s disappear from public view, in shops, on public transport, at work and in television and film. For some women it’s not a problem and for others it’s quite difficult, particularly if they’ve always been someone who’s very involved and felt they were noticed. This subtle form of cultural isolation is pervasive yet largely unnoticed by anyone who isn’t a female on the other side of 40. Women may be passed over for service in a department store, overlooked for a spare seat on the train or passed over for a promotion in the office. On television and in film the absence of women of a certain age is perhaps more visible. Research shows women were cast as just 26 per cent of characters aged 40 or older in 414 films and television shows aired in 2014 and 2015. Our society traditionally expects men and women to play different roles, and a woman’s role in a very conservative society which we really are in many aspects is to be attractive and to perhaps have the role of a mother. If women start to no longer be attractive, which is what some people consider if a woman ages, then she becomes less relevant. The same doesn’t apply to men because as they get older they get more respect, if anything, and it doesn’t really matter what they look like. Experience shows women are seen to have lost their influence in middle age. We very much judge people on their power. While attitudes towards ageing and female beauty are persistently stubborn, voices don’t age. Use your voice to be heard, don’t think you’re inconsequential because you’re not.
