25.01.2022 It’s birthday season at James Grimes, with three of our favourite residents recently celebrating their special day. Happy birthday and many happy returns to Bob Ackerman who turned 95 and Rita Price who turned 86 late last month. They both received a birthday card from the students at Community Kids Yandina. Hip, hip hooray also to Marie Gregory who turned 90 years young today last week.

24.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that we announce one of Sundales founding fathers, Sir Clem Renouf AM has passed away. He was 99 years of age. Sir Clem was a truly remarkable man whose list of extraordinary achievements reveal a life of generosity, compassion and vision. Born in Ingham, Sir Clem enlisted for service in the Royal Australian Air Force shortly after the outbreak of WW2 and served for 5 years as a bomber pilot and flying instructor.... After WW2, Sir Clem set up his accounting practice in Nambour and practised for 27 years. Sir Clems contribution to Sundale cannot be understated. In 1961, along with J.D. Grimes and Roy Charlton, Sir Clem helped fund the purchase of an almost 18-acre site by Doolan and Carter Roads, which is now home to Nambour Garden Village. History repeated itself 22 years later when Sir Clem and some of his friends played a pivotal role securing 15 acres of land neighbouring Windsor Rd, which is now home to Rotary Garden Village. Sir Clem was a foundation Board Member of Sundale, the organisations Treasurer between 1964-87 and Patron between 2000-2013. A lifelong Rotarian, Sir Clem was also the President of Rotary International (1978-79) and played an instrumental role in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which has reduced polio cases by 99.9 per cent since 1979. Sir Clem was also a Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Governors of International House at the University of Queensland, a member of Legacy for approximately 15 years, a Chairman and Treasurer of Lifeline Sunshine Coast and a former Trustee of the National Seniors Foundation. In 1979 Sir Clem was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and knighted in 1988 for services to the community. In 2008, Sir Clem established the Renouf Family Scholarships, for high achieving undergraduate students at the University of the Sunshine Coast in memory of his parents for their sacrifice in giving him the best education possible, under challenging circumstances. Clem is survived by his wife Lady Firth and his two children, Noel and Judy.

03.01.2022 Late last week, Sundales CEO Danielle Mackenzie, received an unexpected and wonderful surprise She had been selected as a finalist in the Queensland Leading Age Services Australia Excellence in Age Services Awards. Without her knowledge, Danielle was nominated for the Individual Category, which aims to recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to the age services sector.... Humbled, but also extremely proud, the nomination gave Danielle the opportunity to reflect on what Sundale has achieved over the past year. Danielle is particularly proud of Sundale 2.0, a framework which will allow the organisation to cater to the evolving needs of the community for decades to come, but most importantly the countless proactive, positive changes the team has made which allows Sundales residents and care recipients to live the life they choose, within a caring and supportive community. The awards will be announced on 7 August 2020 to coincide with Age Care Employee Day. Until then, everyone at Sundale has their fingers (and toes) crossed Danielle.
