This Italian trio started busking around the streets of Brisbane in 2016 and since then have established themselves as one of its leading gypsy jazz bands having played at Brisbane Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Island Vibe and Yonder to name a few. With their own take on the genre made famous by Django Reinhardt and a distinctive sound and instrumentation, the Gypsy Cats have built an eclectic repertoire of originals and uptempo swing standards, gypsy bossas, and traditional jazz ballads with a manouche twist. 07.01.2022 Due to what has been seen over the weekend, we understand how difficult it is for patrons and organisors to maintain safe physical distancing at busy venues. Sunday Hot Club won’t be going ahead today and is closed for the indefinite future. Together we have created an incredible world, celebrating life - gypsy jazz, swing dancing and a very special place to connect with loved ones and friends, old and new. ... First, at Vieille Branche and then at Wandering Cooks. Now is the time to stay safe and well, so that when the time comes, we can be together in the magical world of Sunday Hot Club once more. The creator of the 40 hour jammin - Shenzo Gregorio, violinist and multi-instrumentalist, first discovered the music of Django Reinhardt at the age of 15. An epic 23 year-long journey of self discovery and touring followed taking him to a plethora of countries the world over. Highlights include the Montreux Jazz Festival and New York's Carnegie Hall. Considered amongst peers to be one of the most creative violinists around, Shenzo’s approach to the music of Django Reinhardt pays homage to the tradition while at the same time bringing an inventive flare to the art form.
