18.01.2022 Guys... we need to have a talk. We have tried to steer clear of politics and keep this place a respite from all the ugliness in the world. Regardless of your political position or individual ideologies, we welcome all of you to the Sunken Chip. ... That being said, there is a conversation that needs to be had that we have been avoiding. To put it bluntly, silence is complicity, and staying quiet on the subject of our first nations people and police brutality in an effort to remain apolitical - is inherently a political statement. I encourage you to examine your biases and recognize how systemic racism disproportionately affects black lives. I am asking you to look critically at how our own first nations people are pleading to breath while we go about enjoying our lives. This is the reality of the world we live in. Silence is tacit approval of injustice. For these reasons and more, we unabashedly say #BlackLivesMatter. Period. Full Stop. To my customers and on occasion my staff who have quietly endured the casual racism that seeps into our work life, we apologize profusely for not speaking up sooner. We hear you. We see you. We stand with you.
