17.01.2022 Two wildflowers from the beautiful Greek Island of Crete which is home to some wonderful plants. You must visit Crete if you ever get to Greece, let me know if you are going as l have a great friend there, Nasos who has his own tour company and does great day trips in his own Jeep’s . I had a few of the best days of my life when l did a couple of day trips with him a couple of years ago. If you want to look him up, www.chaniaadventures.gr Something to look forward to for when we are allowed to travel again, Crete really is such a special place.
17.01.2022 Dictamnus albus, the gas plant. A slow growing long lived perennial. Gives off an oil scented of citrus, once the seed pods form the oil around the seed head can be ignited with a match if the air is still, looks spectacular when done in the night. #sunnymeadegarden #strathbogie #bedandbreakfast #perennials
16.01.2022 Sunnymeade Cottage Accommodation for two is now available for Country Victorians to book. With the easing of restrictions we are able to take bookings from Victorian’s living in the country, hopefully it won’t be long and our city friends can come too. There is a lot starting to flower in the garden and as l can’t organise any open days due to the restrictions, by staying in the cottage you can have the garden to yourselves.

09.01.2022 My favourite bulbs, The Crown Imperial ( Fritillaria imperialis ) are flowering. Such majestic bulbs related to lilies, each bell flower has five tear-drops inside. Very rare in Australia, l raised mine from seed which takes many years to get flowering size bulbs I love the story associated with these flowers and share it here and in some Middle Eastern countries where these bulbs are native in the mountains, like Turkey and Afghanistan they are also called, ‘The tears of Mar...y ‘ ‘How that when Our Saviour entered the Garden of Gethsemane all the flowers bowed their heads save the Crown Imperial, which was too proud of its green crown and upright circle of milk-white blossoms to show humility...when gently reproached by its Creator, it saw its error and bowed its head, flushing red with shame and has ever since... carried tears in its eyes’
