22.01.2022 Sunraysia Hockey Under 18 Leprechauns vs The Dragons

20.01.2022 Hello All, It has been a big week for the SHA. The new border restrictions have played havoc with our competition, but I think the responses we've put in place have been successful. We are still working on getting community sport included as an allowable reason to cross the border. HookIn2Hockey has started again with sessions on Wednesday night and Saturday morning. HookIn2Hockey will continue and lead into our U11 come and try, which will be followed by our U11 competition.... This year we are doing the U11 competition on Saturday morning, this is to reduce the load on our volunteers with regard to the increased cleaning. I would like to remind everyone that spectators are required to gather in groups of no more than 10 and must socially distance (unless they are members of the same household). The new 18 years and younger competition commenced last Saturday afternoon, with 4 teams (The Leprechauns, The Abominable Snowmen, The Hydras and The Dragons). It was a great success with a good level of hockey that was great to watch. I am really looking forward to seeing how this competition plays out as the season progresses. A huge amount of work has gone into this and it is great to see it up and running. Regards, Andrew Carrigan President Sunraysia Hockey Association See more

17.01.2022 Hello All, Firstly, congratulations and well done to everyone involved in the first round of the SHA 2020 season. It was great to see the players back on the pitch playing hockey again. 16.01.2022 Our very successful HookIn2Hockey is happening from the 17th of February 2021. This year the $60 fee also covers the Hockey Victoria Registration for Sunraysia Hockey Association season.

16.01.2022 COVID 19 Update. With the State Government’s announcement on the 11th of May the association is working with Hockey Victoria and Mildura Rural City Council to return to training as soon as possible. There will be significant changes to our usual way of training and we will keep you updated as we get closer to starting up again. The association is hopeful of running a reduced length season, depending on when we are able to commence competition. We thank you for your patience a...nd understanding as we work through the requirements to get you back on the pitch. Regards, Andrew Carrigan President Sunraysia Hockey Association. See more

14.01.2022 With our hockey neighbours in the south currently battling a large influx of COVID-19, we're encouraging all our members to join the new #SticksForVics campaign... and show your support. This weekend show solidarity for Hockey Victoria by posting an image with your hockey sticks in a V-shape and remember to use the hashtag #SticksForVics. It takes a team to keep hockey COVID safe!

14.01.2022 This OBO goalie stick was found on a track out near Psyche Bend. If you own it, or know who does, leave a comment. Cheers, Andrew Carrigan.

13.01.2022 Dear Parents and Guardians, The Sunraysia Hockey Association is looking to restart its 2020 Hook in2 Hockey program in Late July/ Early to mid-August this year to complete the remaining 2 skill sessions and the come and try Under 11s session. At this moment we are waiting to see whether restrictions to be lifted enough to allow at least one parent of the participants into the hockey complex, as we are aware it will be intimating for some of our Hook in2 Hockey players to ente...r the grounds without the support from parents and guardians. However, to enable us to start planning for this to happen we would like an indication what the uptake would be from the 2020 players. Can you please complete the survey below to enable us to commence planning for the program to begin. Please complete it for each child. There may be some alterations to the original session times to accommodate the 2020 playing season. https://forms.gle/og5dqHcSikkAPvZJA Regards, Jess Melsen SHA Junior Coordinator

13.01.2022 Hello All, Great news, the 2020 Sunraysia hockey season will commence for under 13s, under 15s and under 16s with under 15 boys on Friday the 17th July 2020. Senior grades will commence with B grade men on Friday 24th July 2020.... A draw will be published shortly. The season will finish in mid to late October, a survey will be sent out asking for the preferred format for finals. We are still assessing a start date for HookIn2Hockey and under 11s and will keep you informed as information comes to hand. Players will receive a 50% discount on SHA turf and umpire levies for the 2020 season. There will be some rule changes. Sharing of facemasks is not permitted, under 18 players must be assigned a facemask prior to the beginning of the game (the mask should be identifiable in some way eg coloured tape or number). Should a player assigned a facemask be on the bench when a short corner is awarded, that player will be allowed to sub onto the pitch for the defensive short corner. Facemasks must be cleaned and sanitised between games. Goalie gear must also be cleaned and sanitised between games if it is being shared. As the season is going much later than normal, and as a trail, we have decided to play all full pitch games in 4 quarters for the entire season. Under 13s will play 10-minute quarters with a 2-minute break at 1/4 and 3/4 time and a 5-minute break at 1/2 time. Under 15s and Under 16s will play 12-minute quarters with a 2-minute break at 1/4 and 3/4 time and a 2-minute break at 1/2 time. Seniors will play 15-minute quarters a 2-minute break at 1/4 and 3/4 time and a 5-minute break at 1/2 time. We look forward to seeing you all down t the pitch and thank you for your understanding and support over this difficult time. Regards, Andrew Carrigan. President Sunraysia Hockey Association. 13.01.2022 A message from Annie. "Hi everyone. Well it can be the understatement of the year, that 2020 has been so far a huge challenge to all of us. A major shake up on how we now have to adjust our lives in order to do the simple pleasures we enjoy, and not take for granted. Throughout this uncertainty, HOOKED ON HOCKEY CONTINUES TO BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Providing for all hockey gear necessary to be ready, when we all see some light, to get us back onto the field. It has been frust...rating for everyone including myself as a player/retailer however, hope to return is being slowly becoming a reality. Therefore to avoid the last minute rush that will be placed on me in trying to get gear out quickly, if members who were planning to get gear, and clubs updating gk gear, balls etc to CALL/TEXT/EMAIL ME NOW with their orders. (Sale specials are on now). Check what specifically you are needing by viewing products online, and i will organise and dispatch out your orders as quickly as possible. If your associations have club training dates commencing already or soon, PLEASE LET ME KNOW TO ARRANGE A SALES VISIT. The necessary steps for safe retail purchasing will be in place when you all see me. No virus is going to bring down hooked on hockey, and I personally want to thank you all for your wonderful support to your local bloke who was NOT out of mind, when one was out of sight. Please be patient for orders that I have to arrange to get from suppliers who may not be as efficient as me, though I will try my hardest to deliver to avoid further delay and stress. Ready to serve you all now, so I hope to hear and see you all real soon. THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS - HOOKED ON HOCKEY." See more

09.01.2022 Hello All, The association has been closely monitoring the situation with the closure of the New South Wales/ Victoria border. Presently, people that live within 50 km of the border are able to obtain a cross border community permit, available at:... https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//apply-covid-19-nsw-border- Once you have a permit you are able to cross the border, within your border community, in the conduct of your daily life, which should include sport. This means, at this stage, that the junior season will commence on Friday 17 July as planned. However, yesterday afternoon, Sport and Recreation Victoria revoked the start date for senior contact sport (and hockey is considered a contact sport). Which places doubt over our plan to start the senior season on Friday 24 July. We are hopeful that, provided we have no local cases in the next 14 days, that regional senior contact sport will be able to commence as planned or with minimal delay. As more information comes to hand we will keep you informed. This has been an extremely difficult year and the association committee thanks all of you for your patience and understanding as we work to deliver some sort of hockey season for 2020. Regards, Andrew Carrigan. President Sunraysia Hockey Association.

08.01.2022 Hello All, The SHA committee met this evening and has taken the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 senior season. A number of factors have led us to this point, the main one being our inability to start senior contact sport as per the current Victorian health directive. The junior season will continue as per the draw, albeit with the current suspension of competition point for the next 2 rounds.... Seniors are still able to be involved with hockey as officials, so please contact your club if you want to be involved. Umpiring is a good way to get out in the fresh air and see some hockey. I would like to ask if any member has a video camera with a webcam out function that would be willing to loan it to the association so we can live stream our 18 years and under games on Saturday afternoons if you could let me know via a Facebook message or at [email protected]. Thank you. We are excited to announce that we will be running a 4 week come and try program for beginner 12 to 18-year-olds starting on Friday 14 August from 5 to 6 pm, so if you have any friends that want to give hockey a go start working on them now. More details will follow over the next few days.

05.01.2022 This week we have lost a great proponent of the game. Ken was a friend and mentor to myself and my children. As an example of his generosity, he allowed my family to stay in his holiday house in Anglesea while Alec attended State U15 trainings in 2014. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. I am privileged to have known him and call him a friend. He will be sorely missed. Andrew Carrigan. President Sunraysia Hockey.

04.01.2022 FIRE ACADEMY V SHA - 8th Nov 2020 @ the PITCH. It was FANTASTIC to be back at the PITCH, even if it was for one game. This was to provide the SA Fire Academy players with a game day. The SHA called on some great young talent and the fire academy didn't let us down, coming away with a 5-3 win. Check out the great pictures from the early start on Sun 8th Nov 2020. A HUGE THANKS to all involved in making this game a huge success. ... To Tamsin and Hannah- Thank you for your brilliant umpiring skills A GREAT MORNING BACK AT THE PITCH.
