18.01.2022 Could Sunset Pools be lifting renovations to a new level? A renovation adjacent to a tidal waterway introduces its own distinctive challenges. Site access down a treacherously steep forty-five degree incline in addition to having to cross a waterfront homes construction site was the easy part of this exceptional bayside renovation in Sans Souci. This neglected pool and spas low level adjacent to Kogarah Bay compounded this sites inaccessibility, as the tides rise and fall... dictated precisely when, and even at what pace work could proceed. Comparatively straightforward enhancements that included a full-length curved swim-out extension, matching the spas and pools coping level, stripping the original Marblesheen and fiberglass linings before applying a sparkling tiled interior usually present no major issues. This renovation however was far from a walk in the park! To overcome the sites steep incline building materials and equipment were palletised then lowered to pool level (plus waste removed) using a modified pallet-jack linked to a 4x4 ute. Maritime Services forecasts were studied to determine high and low tides and calculate the extent and rate that sea levels fall. Additional calculations, using the pools volume and the adjacent sea level, then matched multiple pump capacities to synchronise emptying the pool with the tide to avoid external pressure fracturing the shell or popping it out of its sandy surrounds. Once drained the shell was core drilled and a large opening created to permit sea water to enter and leave the pool in unison with the tide and determine Sunset Pools renovation schedule. As important as this renovations aesthetic and quality finish is its less evident structural and hydraulic engineering. Superior 40mpa concrete and the new steel epoxied into the existing structure reinforce the original concrete shell. High-efficiency saltwater sanitation, gas heating and lighting complete Sunsets renowned refurbishment package. Pool commissioning coincided with completion of the new home, enabling integration of the pool and spas into its delighted owners C-Bus building control system.

The backyard swimming pool has become an Australian icon that provides good times and healthy recreation for people of all ages. While swimming pools allow us to get together with our friends and family to share fun, fitness and relaxation, if safety procedures are allowed to lapse they can then also pose a risk. There are some easy to remember rules that you need to follow at all times to ens...ure the safe enjoyment of your Sunset swimming pool and spa. SPASA recommends these safety guidelines be followed at all times: Supervise children at all times around water. If you need to leave the pool or water area, even for a moment, take the child with you. Make sure your pool or spa has compliant fencing and childproof locking. Always remember that a swimming pool fence is not a substitute for supervision. Dont leave furniture or other items accessible that children can climb on near your pool or spa fence. Be aware that hair, bathing suit strings and tassels or body parts can become entangled in an improperly covered drain or suction point. Display a resuscitation chart on your pool fence and take a CPR course so you will know what to do in an emergency. Familiarise children with water by taking them to swimming lessons at the local pool. Make sure all pool users are warned against sitting on, or covering, a drain or suction point. This can cause injury, or in extreme cases, death. Empty paddling pools, baths, basins, sinks and troughs when they are not in use. Never take your eyes off children when they are in or around water. It only takes a few seconds for a child to drown. Alcohol and swimming dont mix. Never drink around water.
