19.01.2022 Ive been cutting a lot of dovetails lately. Different types of joinery have always fascinated me but I think I like dovetails the most. Theres something beautiful about their simplicity in concept but relative difficulty in execution. The game changer for me was the @jkatzmoses dovetail jig. Yes it keeps a nice straight saw kerf but I think its magic lies in its time saving abilities when it comes to layout. I no longer have to mark every single cut line. I only need to m...ark ticks on the end grain where I want the jig to sit and then I can start the cut. 19.01.2022 It seems like we are constantly debating on whether or not to pull the trigger on buying a cnc machine. But theres something about the calmness and quiet of a scroll saw. It somehow translates into the work. Its definitely not as efficient but I think there is a difference, even if its subconscious, between a piece that is cut on a machine or by hand. Dont get me wrong we strive for perfection, but even hand cut perfection is different to a computerised router. We used the last of our @minwaxusa Golden Oak stain to try to get as close as possible to the existing wood panelling already installed and I think it turned out pretty good. We were pretty bummed when minwax stopped retailing in Australia but the @feast_watson products are even better. 06.01.2022 Finishing is not my favourite process. So Im usually looking for ways to sort cut but I always end up back to the basics. I had to sand off a crappy spray can poly finish on these book ends bases and go to my trusted foam/brush and @feast_watson polyurethane. I have no luck with spray poly. I usually get to use a quarter of the can at most before the nozzle stops working and Ive wasted my twenty bucks. Maybe next time Ill learn.
