Following... success as a soloist in statewide classical competitions, Debra then explored musicals, with various leading roles, including several tours with a Gilbert & Sullivan ensemble. 19.01.2022 BEN SMITH - Tenor Ben started singing at school in Year 5 and has been singing in choirs ever since. He has sung with the Buderim Male Singers, Caloundra Chorale and has competed in Eisteddfods. Then he discovered the Queensland Youth Choir under Sandra Milliken. The Queensland Youth Choir represented Australia at Festival 500 (a biannual music and singing extravaganza in St Johns Newfoundland Canada) where Ben performed Carl Orff's ‘Carmina Burana’ in a massed choir of 8,00...0 voices conducted by Bobby McFerrin. They also did a Northern European tour of Finland, Sweden, Estonia and England. During this time, Ben was lucky enough to take lessons with Jason Barry-Smith. He then moved on to Resonance of Birralee Voices under the wonderful talent of Paul Holly. Whilst with Resonance, he was grateful to be one of 12 backup singers for Eric Idel's ‘He's not the Messiah’. Moving to Melbourne Ben joined Concordis Chamber Choir with Andrew Hunter, an accomplished chorale conductor. Ben is grateful to continue his vocal journey the Sunshine Coast Choral Society. 16.01.2022 Has the heat drained your Christmas spirit? Let the strains of Bach and Handel reignite the Spirit of Christmas in you in the air-conditioned comfort of the Gregson and Weight Chapel, 119 Wises Road, Maroochydore at 2 pm tomorrow, Sunday. $25 To ensure this sense of joy stays with you we will be finishing the concert with the rousing Hallelujah Chorus which we are sure you will be singing all the way home.

15.01.2022 Guess who caught the Christmas Spirit? Our Choir Master has...... and he was definitely pleased with the choir's performance yesterday as was a most appreciative audience. To hear comments like "oh I could listen to that over and over again" was a sentiment echoed by many in the audience.

14.01.2022 IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT THE CHORAL SOCIETY’S RETURN TO REHEARSALS Dear singers, The Management Committee and Adrian have been in discussions via email about the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on the Choir's eventual return to rehearsals and schedule for concert performances. Given the ongoing uncertainties, and the strong likelihood that social isolation/distancing will continue throughout the winter months, it has been decided to delay the recommencement of rehearsals until Term ...3 this year (16 September), based on the following reasoning: * Even if social isolation restrictions were to be gradually lifted over the next few months, some (or possibly many) members may be reluctant to return to rehearsals immediately, particularly if they have pre-existing health conditions which put them at higher risk if they contract the virus; * Such anxiety could also be experienced amongst orchestra members and soloists; * Likewise, audiences may be hard to attract out of isolation, and implementing social distancing (1.5m distance between people) would mean that whatever audience numbers we could attract would be at least halved, resulting in performances running at significant losses; and * Finally, we have no control over polices put in place by local Council which will determine whether, when, and under what conditions we can return to rehearsing and performing, so a more protracted delay than we had originally hoped for seems most sensible. The effect of this is that our proposed concerts have had to be cancelled or postponed. Adrian (and the committee) are working on a program for the rest of 2020. At this stage it is looking like this - provided we have been given the "go ahead" - 2020: Wednesday 16th September - Commence Term 3 rehearsals "A Rutter Christmas" Saturday 5th December - Rehearsal at Gregson & Weight 1.30pm "A Rutter Christmas" Sunday 6th December - Concert at Gregson & Weight 2pm "A Rutter Christmas" We all share in any disappointment you may be feeling, but please be assured that these are positive steps for the well-being of us all. Kind regards, Andrew BURNS President.
