15.01.2022 COVID Safety Plan for Training, Season Plan & SCHA Fees Important information about COVID Safety guidelines that need to be followed during Stage 2 restriction...s, an outline of the Season Plan and SCHA Fees can be found on the SCHA website or refer to your email. https://www.suncoasthockey.com.au/ COVID Safety Plan https://ca33ca3e-19b8-4b2a-b161-988a9eb522f9.filesusr.com/ The key points for anyone attending for training are: IF YOU ARE UNWELL, DO NOT ATTEND TRAINING Training groups are restricted to a maximum of 20 per zone (including coaches and managers) No person is to enter any other zone at any time. If a ball goes into another zone it is to be retrieved at the end of the session or wait for it to be returned by someone in the other zone Each zone has a separate entry and exit point that must be strictly adhered to (Diagrams 2 & 3) Every one attending training must have their name and details recorded on an attendance register for each session All players must arrive dressed for training and leave immediately after the end of their training session to enable the next group to enter. Entry will be via the stairs in front of the clubhouse and exit via the double gates at the canteen end of the clubhouse. (Diagram 1) Training time on the field will be reduced to 45 minutes. SCHA has allowed a 15 minute window to allow 10 minutes for a group to pack up, clean their area and then depart and a 5 minute window for the next group to enter Sanitising stations shall be available at all entry and exit points of the turf facility and field. Changerooms will be available for handwashing and toilets only. Clubs and users shall also provide sanitiser products for their training sessions. No person (coaches included) can train in more than one zone on the same day (i.e.: Juniors cannot train with juniors and then train with seniors on the same day). The only cleaning requirement we will ask of members is for the tops of the dugout walls to be wiped down by a member of the group once their training is finished. Spray bottles with disinfectant, disposable gloves and paper towel will be made available by SCHA. Please ensure paper towel and gloves are disposed of in the bins provided. Facility will be commercially cleaned after any day that the turf facility has been used No spectators. It is strongly recommended that Parents and Caregivers drop and go or wait in their car. If this is not possible at most 1 x parent or caregiver attend (no non participating siblings) and must remain in the dedicated Parent Zones (Diagrams 1 & 3) An induction for club COVID Safe Coordinators and any members wishing to attend will be on Saturday, June 13, at 3pm. Please let me know via email ([email protected]) if you wish to attend so we can ensure social distancing guidelines are adhered to. We will also require assistance to set up the zones, sanitising stations, signage etc which we will do at the same time as the induction so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Just Hockey Hut In order to support Just Hockey and their willingness to be open during this training period for our members, access to Just Hockey will be available for anyone during their advertised opening times. Please ensure, as per Diagram 1 (white arrows), you walk directly to the hut from the entry gate in front of the clubhouse. Please follow the Just Hockey safety guidelines and ensure social distancing is observed at all times. Once finished at the hut please proceed directly to the exit gates at the canteen end (southern end) of the clubhouse. ________________________________________ Season Plan (https://ca33ca3e-19b8-4b2a-b161-988a9eb522f9.filesusr.com/) We understand that some members will want to see this information along with fees before deciding if they will return to play this year. Please be aware that this season plan outline may be subject to change as the draw can’t be finalised until final team numbers are known. Brent and the sub-committee will endeavour to have the draw released in full no later than 1 July, 2020. It is therefore vital that you let your club know if you are returning to play or not so that they can work out their team numbers to allow a draw to be finalised. Additional information about the season plan. Finals Structure for all Divisions, except U15. Week One: Qualifying Final - 2v3 Week Two: Grand Final 1 v Winner QF Dual Finals Structure for U15. 11.01.2022 Last night we saw resumption of the season with a healthy turnout and two high-scoring, well-contested matches and players wearing black armbands in memory of Russell Mogg, who recently lost his battle with cancer. In between matches, all players grouped to hold a minute silence in memory of Russ. Moggy's great spirit, cheeky stirring, talented play and umpiring skill will be sadly missed in both SCHA Masters and Grade hockey and in Hockey Queensland Masters competitions. Vale Moggy.
11.01.2022 Here's our SKECO Sunshine Coast team that played five matches at the Brisbane Masters Nines comp yesterday. We made the Gold Medal match last year but were not as successful this year in an expanded, more skilled competition. But we had an enjoyable, if hot, day together. It was hard work chasing around ex-Kookaburra Baeden Choppy and other much younger and more skillful players but it is always a rewarding challenge. Big shout out to Trevor Nock for coming down to coach us on the day and all those family who came down to provide support during our matches. Thanks to Steve Claridge for kitting us out and getting us together again. Congratulations to Craig Owen and Brad Galgon for being part of the victorious Vikram's Vikings team, including the said Baeden Choppy.
11.01.2022 For your diaries.
11.01.2022 Men’s Masters, tonight's game has been washed out. Club facilities will be locked up. We'll try again next week. Cheers, Paul
11.01.2022 Big names set for hockey event by CHRIS GILMORE A host of former Olympians are set to line up for a special All Stars hockey match on the Sunny Coast as the loc...al association prepares to officially open its new artificial turf. Former Hockeyroos star and Sunny Coast product Jodie Kenny is organising the event for January 30, which will include junior games for players aged 10-14 and 15-18 years, followed by an All Stars v Sunshine Coast game. Jodie says the All Stars game will feature some former stars of the game alongside current state players and some up-and-coming talents. I don't want to brag but the line-up for the All Stars game is pretty special, she says. We will have world-class players like Olympic gold medallists Mark Knowles, Liam DeYoung, Nathan Eglington and Matthew Wells, combined with current and past Hockeyroos and Kookaburras like Matt Gohdes, Savannah Fitzpatrick and Melanie Wells, and Queensland players Ian and Britt Schulz, Morgan Gallagher and Shane Kenny. The All Stars will be challenged by a Sunny Coast team filled with talented and skilful players. The game will be mixed men and women and will showcase a high level of basic skills and exciting hockey to watch. The turf opening event is an exciting opportunity to show off the newly re-surfaced pitch and to welcome all new and current members back to the association after the off-season. The day will start with junior games, followed by an announcement regarding the turf and topped off by the spectacular finale, the All Stars v Sunshine Coast game. The upgrade of the synthetic turf at the Sunshine Coast Hockey Association’s headquarters at Ballinger Park in Buderim was completed in December. It cost close to $500,000, with the Queensland Government contributing $450,000 and the remainder coming from the association. The facility now has the same type of turf that will be used at the Tokyo Olympics later this year. The new turf is absolutely brilliant, Jodie says. For a brand new surface, it runs efficiently and flat and the players that have been on it so far have nothing but praise and appreciation for having such a great pitch here on the Sunshine Coast. Having a great facility is an important step in developing hockey here at SCHA and we are fortunate to now have a top-quality turf at our venue. Jodie retired from the Hockeyroos in 2020 but has taken up the role as the Coast’s regional coaching director, where she is responsible for helping to develop the region’s next batch of hockey stars. In December she ran clinics for juniors, who were lucky enough to be the first to try the new turf. I'm really enjoying the RCD role, she says. It has been great to return to the original association where I started my hockey journey. I am very passionate about hockey and I want to be able to promote the development and growth of this wonderful sport on the Sunshine Coast. I am currently in the process of preparing the representative players for their upcoming trials, organising the SCHA opening event and planning for the wonderful 2021 season. I think transitioning into this role has really helped me move into retirement from international hockey. I still don't think it has fully sunk in yet, but so far I am enjoying retired life. Apart from my role here at SCHA, I have been enjoying the extra time with my family. My son Harrison is now 3 and absolutely keeps me on my toes when I'm not working. Is there any chance she will return to play on the Coast? I would love to play on the Coast again, my goal would be to get a Wamuran women's team back together and be able to play alongside my three sisters again after 10-plus years. The Hockeyroos are in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics beginning in July, and Jodie says her former teammates are in with a shot at glory. I think Australia have a great chance to medal at the Olympics in Tokyo, she says. It is not going to be an easy lead-up to the Games and will be unlike any other Olympic campaign preparation. Given that it's a worldwide pandemic, it will be the teams that make the most of the situation they are currently in that will be successful. I will be watching and eagerly supporting from home with my beautiful family.
10.01.2022 Here's Brad Galgon and Craig Owen with their winning team and trophy after yesterday's Brisbane Masters Nines competition. Congratulations to you both, especially to Craig for successive trophies after last year's victory with the Bundy Rumbos.

09.01.2022 I intend to start our 2021 Masters Season preps on Sunday 17 January at 7:30AM. Please spread the word through all ages. Even though primary focus is for Brisbane 9s in Feb, all ages are welcome to start your QLD Masters preps for the year. I'm going to see if I can engage the Regional Coaching Director for targeted sessions prior to each competition. Brad and I have discussed getting a SCHA 34-49 (tough gig if you're 49!) team formed this year, so please spread the word to ...the younger Masters players and encourage them to turn up to our Sunday sessions. Cheers, Hoody
