25.01.2022 It’s very rare that you’ll see these doctors dressed down in our clinic, but when it comes to raising awareness and money for charity, they’re willing to go the distance! Both Dr Connon and Dr Jackson have joined us in the #42Kyourway challenge to support the Children's Hospital Foundation. (As an added bonus, they’re also helping to prolong the life of their natural knee joints!) 42K Your Way
25.01.2022 We are working closely with the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC Clinical Trials) to conduct a research study about the use of mobile technology to assist patient education and research in arthroplasty (a.k.a. joint replacement surgery). Our patients use our POP app, or Patient Optimized Pathway, as an interactive tool while preparing for joint replacement surgery. The app allows the surgeon and the medical care team to accompany our patients throughout the entire proce...ss, including education and information, preparation for surgery, and even rehab post-surgery. The app, available at the App Store and Google Play, provides our patients with daily activities to be carried out during the various phases of the treatment journey. We are proud to be working with USC and our patients to help further our understanding about the joint replacement experience! USC: University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia
24.01.2022 Well done Dr Dave!
24.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday at Caloundra Power Boat Club. It was a great morning discussing non operative options for patients suffering with hip and knee osteoarthritis. We won't be holding any more seminars for this year, but keep an eye on our website for 2021 venues and dates!
23.01.2022 Alan had bilateral total knee replacements 6 weeks ago. He decided to have both at once because he didn’t want to go through the recovery twice. Although the initial post-operative period is more difficult, and there are some other risks to weigh up, bilateral knee replacements are a good option for some patients. *Please note that Alan has had a very good recovery and these results are not to be taken as an indication of how all people will recover.
23.01.2022 Meet Natasha! Natasha is a Perioperative Nurse Practitioner and our Director of Clinical Services. She has assisted both myself and Dr Connon in the operating room for over 5 years. She came into the practice with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Science, a Master’s degree in Nursing and a graduate diploma in perioperative nursing. Natasha runs clinics out of our rooms and is second to none when it comes to patient care and bedside manner. Fun Fact: Natasha lives on a sheep farm and enjoys netball, women’s AFL, and tennis in her spare time. #scog #dreamteam
23.01.2022 Meet Jo! Jo came to the practice as a certified advanced care paramedic. She has 3 years administrative medical experience and sits at the reception desk at our practice. She aids Dr Connon and his secretary and keeps us all up to date on the latest advances in first aid. Fun fact: Jo has served in the British Armed Forces. #scog #meettheteam
22.01.2022 What an incredible effort from all parties in bringing together both of our community education seminars today! We had an amazing turnout in Buderim, where members of the community learned about operative and non-operative management of osteoarthritis. Thank you to guest speaker David Castle-Burns from Physio Professionals and to the Buderim Tavern for hosting us. It was a great way to spend our Saturday! #knowledgeispower
22.01.2022 Meet Claire! Claire is the General Manager of Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group and she does an excellent job of keeping everything running smoothly! She has been with the practice for two years and you will undoubtedly see her in the clinic, filling and managing a variety of different roles. Her smile is infectious and she is no doubt the engine room of our practice. Fun Fact: Claire is originally from Zimbabwe and immigrated to Australia when she was 12 years old with her family. #teamSCOG #meettheteam
21.01.2022 It’s a pleasure to work with a brilliant Orthopaedic surgeon like Dr. Frank Connon! Dr. Connon sees patients in Birtinya, Noosa and Gympie and is dedicated to them all. He is world-class and an amazing asset to our team. Happy birthday Frank!
21.01.2022 Did you know that the force on your knees is the equivalent of 2-3 times your body weight when walking? This month our staff have been actively focusing on knee joint health and reducing excess body weight. Your knee is the largest joint in your body, made up of bones, tendons, cartilage and ligaments. It is essential to proper movement and therefore should be well cared for. If you have knee pain, you should talk to your Orthopaedic surgeon to rule out or diagnose any issues. Don’t wait! Knee injuries can sometimes lead to long lasting problems. We have additional-and very helpful- information on our website: www.scorthogroup.com.au/Patient-info/Patient-education for more on knee joint health.
20.01.2022 Our first session is fully booked so we are opening a second seminar at the Buderim Tavern on Sept. 26! Join me and physiotherapist, David Castle-Burns as we speak about hip and knee osteoarthritis, and how to manage it both operatively and non-operatively. We would love to see you there, but seats are already filling up for our second session so please reserve your space now link in bio. Physio Professionals
20.01.2022 Alan is playing with his ‘My Knee’ 3D printed patient-specific instruments. These were used in theatre to accurately execute the Kinematic alignment plan. #myknee #totalkneereplacement
18.01.2022 The key to maintaining your knee health is finding the ability to keep moving! Achieving this is about having a well-balanced program consisting of low impact cardiovascular activity, simple strengthening, and flexibility drills. A little bit goes a long way so be patient and seek advice if you need some extra help! -Dion Wallace, Physiotherapist
18.01.2022 A lot of my patients don’t necessary run marathons, but they do enjoy running around with their grandkids! Keeping up with life means being able to move, pain free. Knee stiffness, irritation, locking, swelling or numbness can be assessed and often improved by treatment plans between you, your Orthopaedic Surgeon, and physiotherapist. Don’t suffer silently - talk to your doctor. Improving your quality of life may be easier (and less intimidating) than you think! #keepingupwithlife
18.01.2022 Meet Dr Connon, Orthopaedic Surgeon! Dr Connon has a special interest in minimally invasive lower limb surgical techniques and has extensive experience in Australia and abroad. He consults at Noosa Private Hospital, Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, and Ramsay Medical Consulting Suites in Gympie. He is an excellent doctor and surgeon! 16.01.2022 Meet Renae! Renae came to the practice with 20 years medical reception experience with a special focus in orthopaedics. She is Dr Rodda’s secretary and does an amazing job at keeping the clinic running so that he can focus 100% on his patients. She is an amazing asset to our team! Fun fact: Renae was a flight attendant for Emirates and lived in Dubai for 5 years. #dreamteam
16.01.2022 Aaand we’re off! Our team is participating in the 42K Your Way challenge, to help benefit the Children's Hospital Foundation. In the month of August, we are all attempting to walk, swim, cycle, or do whatever we can to go the distance for sick kids. We will be posting photos here (and on our Instagram) from the kilometers we log. It feels great to give back, exercise, and keep our joints healthy in the process! #42Kyourway
15.01.2022 It’s Men’s Health Week so it’s a great time to talk about how osteoarthritis (OA) affects men. Even though OA commonly affects more women, before the age of 45, it is actually more prevalent in men. Some of my patients find that surprising because OA is largely associated with aging adults, but age is only one contributing factor. It is important to talk to your doctor about painful joints, no matter your gender or age! #menshealthweek
14.01.2022 Meet Una! Una is our Registered Nurse and our clinical all-star! Una has been with the clinic from the very beginning and brings 37 years worth of nursing experience to our staff! 14.01.2022 Meet Dr Rodda, Orthopaedic Surgeon! Dr Rodda is widely regarded for his Anterior Minimally Invasive Total Hip Replacement surgery, as well as his total knee replacement surgery using robotic and patient matched technology. He consults and operates at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital and now operates at Buderim Private Hospital as well. Fun Fact: Dr Rodda enjoys participating in water sports in his free time. #scogdreamteam
13.01.2022 Maintaining a healthy weight is very important when it comes to your knee joints. That’s why our team is undergoing a weight loss challenge this month! This month we will be focusing on exercising and eating right to help shed the extra weight we have recently put on. Women who are overweight have nearly 4 times the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis as opposed to women who maintain a healthy BMI. Men have 5 times the risk! We will be sharing photos of our team journey t...ogether and we would love for you to join our #winterweightlosschallenge! #scog #getmoving See more
13.01.2022 Our awesome Nurse Practitioner, Anthony, does an excellent job explaining ankle instability, (even if it is for the camera)! Unfortunately for many people, especially those who participate in sporting activities, chronic ankle instability can occur after repeated ankle sprains or strains. This can lead to joint pain, swelling, inflammation and damage to tendons around the ankle. Physiotherapy is the first step in managing ankle instability, however there are instances when surgery is required. Talk to your Physio and Orthopaedic Surgeon if your ankle is repeatedly giving way. #anklesprains #anklestrains #ankleinstability
12.01.2022 Our whole team is so happy to be back to surgery; helping relieve pain, one joint replacement at a time! Happy International Nurses Day!
12.01.2022 Meet Vikki! Vikki joined the practice in January 2019 with over 30 years customer service and 10 years medical administration experience. She is secretary to Dr Connon and the friendly face you’re most likely to see when you walk into the practice. Fun Fact: Outside of the practice Vikki is involved in skydiving with the Australian Parachute Federation, South Queensland Parachute Council and Australian Skydiver Magazine. #meettheteam #scog
10.01.2022 Exercise is essential to healthy living, however it is vitally important to know how much is too much. Depending on your pain, surgery date, and exercise history, your Physio and Orthopaedic surgeon will help set up a regimen that is right for you. Everybody is different and every body is different. If you’re experiencing a significant amount of pain while exercising, you should stop and consult your healthcare team. #fitnessjourney
08.01.2022 A big congratulations to Natasha and her fiancé Jonathan on their engagement this weekend! The whole team at Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group are delighted for you. #scorthogroup #scorthogroupteam
08.01.2022 Meet Anthony! Anthony is a Perioperative Nurse Practitioner, who you’re most likely to see if you have had surgery with Dr Connon. He has assisted both Dr Connon and Dr Rodda for over 5 years in theatre and has his Masters degree in Nurse Practitioner studies Anthony has a great sense of humor and his patients always enjoy seeing the smile on his face! Fun Fact: Anthony has participated in and *won* a power lifting competition. #dreamteam
07.01.2022 The numbers are in and as a team, we’ve lost 12 kgs in the month of June! I’m incredibly proud of all who participated in support of their knee joint health. Did you know that modest weight loss (for example, 5% reduction in your body weight) can noticeably reduce symptoms of knee osteoarthritis? Your knees are incredibly important and weight loss is a good, non-operative way to help preserve your natural knee joints. Once again, well done Team SCOG!
07.01.2022 Tickets to our osteoarthritis seminar at the Maroochy RSL are now available! Visit our website for more information! https://scorthogroup.com.au/upcoming-events/
05.01.2022 Congratulations to Ken Bacon on his Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital anniversary! Ken has over 49 years experience in the industry! #SCUPH
04.01.2022 Alans X-ray’s are an example of knee replacements performed using a kinematic alignment philosophy. This is a technique I have used for hundreds of my knee replacement patients And have been very happy with. For more information about kinematic alignment, please click on this link www.scorthogroup.com.au/kinematic-knee-alignment/
04.01.2022 It typically takes 9-12 months to fully recover from an ACL reconstruction, to the point that you can return to contact sports. It is critically important that a physiotherapist guides you through this process. We are lucky on the Sunshine Coast to have a fantastic group of physiotherapists to help you with this. Don’t do it alone. #physiotherapy #orthopaedicsurgery #sportinginjuries #multidisciplinarycare
04.01.2022 Can the weather actually affect your osteoarthritis pain? You decide. #arthritisseason #osteoarthritis
03.01.2022 A bit of light reading for your Thursday evening :) This is an article written by Dr Daevyd Rodda and Dr Dwane Jackson on the importance of a collaborative approach between anaesthetic and orthopaedic specialists to accomplish enhanced recovery after total joint arthroplasty. https://scorthogroup.com.au//News_EnhancedRecoveryAfterArt
02.01.2022 Patient education is one of my highest priorities as a surgeon. It is my firm belief that the more a patient understands about joint replacement surgery, the less intimidating it is. We supply our patients with plenty of information on all of their options, both operative and non-operative, as well as lead them every step of the way through their treatment plan. It is so important that patients are on the same page as their doctors! #knowledgeispower
02.01.2022 We had such a wonderful night with local General Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and Dr. Garth McLeod, bariatric surgeon, learning how to diagnose a painful joint replacement and how weight loss surgery can help patients get more mileage out of their joints! The discussion, centered on patient care, was educational for everyone. A big thank you to Harry's On Buderim for hosting us!
02.01.2022 Today is World Physiotherapy Day and we want to take the time to thank our wonderful Physios who do so much for our patients both before and after surgery!
