17.01.2022 n the 31st of november 2010, the sunshine coast skindivers held their monthly spearfishing competition. With the original competition strategy of pushing out from bribie island boat ramp changed, competitors met in Caloundra for an early comp sign on at 7am. A very keen 17 divers stood at the Caloundra Coast Guard checking bar conditions, organising boat rides, and being stoked about everyone meeting up for yet another great day on the south east queensland reefs. Once all 5 ...boats had safely navigated the often shallow bar, the option was presented of a run to moretons pristine waters, or stay local, and perservere with a mere 10 metre visibility in the majority of most favoured spearfishing locations. With four boats choosing the option of moreton, and one boat deciding to give their luck on the sunshine coast a go, the results at the end of the day would prove intriguing to say the least. The morning shift on the sunshine coast began very slowly and it wasnt until half way into the 8 hour time frame, that fish began to come over the side of the boat. Blind bomb dives in 1-2 metres visibilty produced no fish, and it wasnt until we got into some cleaner water that we saw some stunning amberjack, coral trout, king fish, spanish mackeral, spangled emperor, and other assorted species line the fish bag. Great offshore conditions made the run from location to location very enjoyable. After slugging out the 1 1/2 hour ride to moreton island, the divers were very pleased to encounter 20 metres of blue visibility. It seemed that the reefs were alive, with some great examples of parrot, gold spot wrasse, and green jobfish thrown into the ice. Try as they might though, it seemed that no one could compete with Chris Burnham's winning bag of Great competition fish, and as a result chris took out the A grade division. The weigh in was held, and a few beers were had amongst the lads. Everyone was tired from a bigger day then usual on the water, and by 5pm the day was wrapped up. Many thanks to Rogan Kinnear the club president for organising a great day, and devoting countless phone calls and time to keeping the Sunshine coast skindivers running. thanks also to all the lads in the club for making it enjoyable, there wouldnt be a club without you! A grade chris B - 952.8 Rogan K - 767.4 mark h- 390.1 nathan T- 161.5 B devision - brett Z- 124

11.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Invitational - PRE QLD STATE TITLES INVITATIONAL - the home club of the QLD state titles will be holding a one day invitational dive event based on the QLD state titles score sheet in the waters that the QLD state titles will be held. - watch this space!

10.01.2022 the next comp will be on the last sunday of this month which will be the 31st of october at this point we are considering running the comp out of moreton but are trying to add up numbers the weather is looking like it may be good on the coast but from what i can see Moreton should be good by the time the comp comes. the conditions we have coming are the favourable for clearing moreton waters. im thinking all the coasties can jump into a few cars and we can get everyone down ...together, everyone chips in for fuel driving down and motoring out to moreton, the brissy lads (which are growing by the month lol will do their usual thing). what we need to figure out is if we have enough boats firstly to get every one out and back so if your either interested in diving moreton or your interested and have a seaworthy vessel that is large enough to do the run to moreton can you pls shoot me an email and let me know how many divers you can take cheers guys, should be a fun day out moreton if we can get out! dont worry we will send out an email with guides to the different reefs and will extend the comp hours (these will be general reef locations not specific gps co-ordinates and will be common area as found on any gps with maps installed. look forward to hearing from you lads, if any one wants to join us socially or for the comp dont hesitate to send us an email. if anyone is interested in pool training there is a number of club members that are getting together regularly to do pool training to work on technique and keep fit while the waters dirty or work keeps them busy during the day. at this point it looks like tuesday evenings. if anyones interested let us know. 09.01.2022 just a reminder guys the comps on this sunday the 8th as long as weather stays good. remember there are still a few fish that need to be knocked off the big fish comp including, schnapper, cobia, jewy and wahoo (still about in the right spots). also the kingfish, spanish and pearly records may go this winter.

09.01.2022 guys the comp went well yesterday and it was great to see warmer waters coming in, both Tony and Ben did exceptionally well with the rest of us bagging a good feed. great to see so many new and old faces around the bbq even those that didnt compete. comp write up and pics coming soon

08.01.2022 Thank you Adreno Spearfishing supplies for your support and willingness to help out our small but amped spearfishing club. Without the generosity of the individuals and businesses like yourselves our club would be no less passionate but far less resourced. The money we have raised today at the BBQ will go towards a much needed set of second hand certifies scales for the club. So thank you to each staff member who is always willing to help us out and take the time to serve and support our members and the members of the wider spearfishing community in australia. cheers and happy dives lads and lass. The Sunshine Coast Skindivers
