25.01.2022 SCSI bridges the gap for local athletes wanting to achieve in their sport at the highest level, by encouraging, educating, and enabling them to train at levels equivalent to Metropolitan areas and the QAS in a facilty that is arguably one of the best in the country. Our program encourages athletes and coaches alike to liase with our staff and collaborate together to assist athletes to achieve their sporting and personal goals. We facilitate high quality scientific training ...principles and provide athletes with access to highly qualified staff. The SCSI works with highly skilled health professionals to ensure our athletes health and saftey is our top priority. We have a dedicated sports scientist, sports dietitian, myotherapist, sports psychologist, sports physiotherapist, speed/sprint coaches, exercise scientist, exercise physiologist and multiple strength and conditioning coaches. Our incorporated allied health professionals assist in educating our athletes on the importance of their nutrition, training and recovery. We do this by providing educational sessions for the athletes to help them understand mental preperation, goal setting, training loads, sleep recovery and wellness. We place our athletes through a series of physiological fitness tests and discuss their injury and training history. Our staff then design individualised and sports specific programs tailored to each athlete ensuring they train both safely and effectively. We then retest our athletes a minimum of four times a year to monitor and track their training and progress ensuring optimal results. @o2performance

18.01.2022 Meet Jordan Craig! Jordan is a titled sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapist. He has an academic role as a Lecturer in Anatomy with the School of Medicine at Griffith University on the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Jordan has been practicing on the Sunshine Coast for over 10 years at the Knee Joint Sports Physiotherapy and now inhis own practice, Back To Bounce Sports Physiotherapy. He has extensive experience in all sports injuries and rehabilitation. Jordan cont...inues to work with the Football Federation of Australia, having previously toured with the Socceroos and the Futsalroos for their respective Asian Cup campaigns. He was also a team physiotherapist with the Brisbane Bullets NBL team and head physiotherapist to the Melbourne Victory NYL and NPL squads. 07.01.2022 ALL SPORTS PARENTS NEED TO READ THIS: 70% of kids drop out of their sport before age 13 because of these 4 reasons: Yes, you read it right, 70% of all kids qu...it organized sports by the age of 13, and the number one reason they cite is that it is not fun anymore. There can be a few reasons why kids drop out early: 1. Over zealous parents - Parents are fueled by their talented kid to spend all their time and money on pursuing the kids sports career. They feel the more, the better, when in fact it’s that continual push that can at most times send their kid over the edge. They also seem to panic when other kids the same age as theirs might be winning or doing better, so they make changes in coaches (-also known as 'coach hopping') and add on more tournaments. 2. Too much competition at a young age - Burn out and over playing can occur at a very early age. Kid’s that compete too much and too early are in the 70% category of quitting a sport sooner than later. Too much competition at a young age also means that they are not busy doing the things they should be doing more of, like athletic skill and technical development. 3. It’s not fun anymore - The kid doesn’t enjoy playing anymore due to the loss of fun. They are always practicing or playing matches. Also, the pressure and more attention to simply ‘winning’ applied by coach an/or parent. The fun is simply drained out of it because of 'win at all cost' coaches and over-pressuring parents. Kids also start to see their friends having more fun having more balance in their lives, playing other sports and going to friends houses, fun activities etc.. Always remember what the number 1 reason was why kids started to play a particular sport - because it’s FUN. 4. Too high expectations - When a kid is extremely talented at a young age or showing great potential, a lot of parents will be constantly told how brilliant or great their kid is. This is the mistake of society. Kids are put on pedestals way before they have earned it or should have. Ridiculous as it may sound, but here in the United States, I have heard parents of kids under the age of 12 years talking to University and college coaches about getting their kid to go there! And while I’m on that subject, parents pulling their kids out of school before 14, what are you thinking? Give your kids Balance and Education for as long as possible! It's understandable that Sometimes arrangements in time scheduling need to be made, but pulling a kid from the classroom permanently at these ages does more harm than good. Conclusion: The most important thing as a parent or coach, is to always make sure the kid is having FUN. I would recommend that both the parent and coach provide the balance to this equation. Parents, your role is simple: Just be there to lend unconditional love and support. Also, remember to let the coach, coach. Have some integrity and patience, stop the coach hopping and thinking the grass is always greener when another kid does well. Most of all - Let you kid decide if they still find it fun. It should and always be their choice. Coaches, make sure the vital stages of athlete/player development are adhered too. But most important of all, help develop their love for the game as well as their life skills. 02.01.2022 Meet Nick Bennett! Nick is a level 4 sprints coach who is actively training junior track and field athletes including multiple state and national champions. Nick also performs coaching sessions and clinics for athletes and teams who require specific sprint and agility techniques for their respective sports. He is also a registered ASCA (level 2) strength and conditioning coach and has had extensive experience training athletes from a range of different sports including track ...and field, rugby union, rugby league, AFL, football, futsal, surf lifesaving, gymnastics, hockey and netball. Nick's coaching philosophy has a strong focus on long term athlete development and improving the fundamental movement skills of young athletes. This includes educating athletes on correct techniques, proper preparation and injury prevention and incorporates the use of tools such as the functional movement screen. We are absolutely thrilled to have Nick onboard with the SCSI team!!

01.01.2022 ACL INJURIES - Are they occurring more frequently in Youth? The answer to this question is YES. Between 2005 & 2015 there was an increase from 2.74/100,000 to 6.79/100,000 young Australians aged five to14 yrs with an ACL injury who attended hospital with the injury. ... So the next question is WHY? It is thought it may have something to do with young athletes specialising in their sport, longer seasons and higher training demands. It is also thought it is a lack of unstructured play and exposure to a range of sports. In my experience it is vital all athletes learn how to jump, land, pivot, change direction, throw, catch, run, skip and hop. Specialising in a sport at a young age may prevent the athlete from learning these important movement patterns and resilience. These are skills that translate into their sport performance whilst also assisting with injury prevention. - Nanette Latta, High Performance Director
