24.01.2022 Our final day of this Main Lesson ended in a Mexican Standoff. We learned about this term (and how it doesn’t actually have a whole lot to do with Mexico at all), watched some movie clips, played a Mexican Standoff game, argued with each other until a negotiator was sent in to assist and completed some great bookwork. No fun at all was had today. Not one bit.

18.01.2022 Most of the time the smalls and the bigs work separately. But today turned into a together day after Main Lesson, and sometimes, that’s just how we roll. 18.01.2022 Welcome back! What a great morning. Today the 4-8s started a Space Main Lesson and were caught making gooey art, naming all the planets, writing their letters and sentences, and working on numbers. The 9-17s started their 'Land of the Cherry Blossoms' main lesson, looked at some textural features of graphic novels, and compared ratios, fractions and percentages with simpler to more complex questions. The most wonderful thing was watching the older students play with the younger ones at the park on the swings and in the playground. Look how short I am compared to some of them now (last photo!) 15.01.2022 One of our homeschoolers brought her friend Yarden (Jordan) in today to teach us all about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. We learned some Hebrew, danced the hora, sculpted a dreidel from clay, completed some beautiful bookwork and best of all, were treated to some delicious sufgaiah (donuts), made by Yarden. Thank you Yarden and to our fabulous SBE parent Claire Stachurski for organising.

13.01.2022 Welcome, Tatiana, to our tutoring team! Tatiana is currently in the last year of her Bachelor of Primary Education degree. Having attended Silkwood school herself (back when it was just a few sheds in the bush), she has experienced the magical ways of a Waldorf education which has inspired her teaching pedagogies. Tatiana recently visited the Netherlands where she did placement in a Jenaplan school and was able to work with teaching professionals with Montessori and Steiner backgrounds. With her caring and enthusiastic nature, Tatiana cant wait to be a part of the Sunshine Bridge family.

04.01.2022 'Celebrating Jess.' For the past year our tutor, Jess, has built and maintained strong relationships with students, gently encouraging them and fostering a love of learning. She brings laughter and joy to our centre! Jess was born in Melbourne, but has lived on the Gold Coast for the majority of her life. After finishing school she joined her dad in the family business running a restaurant. Here she completed her Chef apprenticeship and worked along side her family until sh...e had her little girl, Rubi. This is when Jess discovered her love of working with children and young people, and as time went on, she realised that it was time for a career change. Jess spent last year volunteering as a tutor at Sunshine Bridge, and the staff and students knew she was the right fit! Jess plays netball and loves being outdoors especially the beach. She also loves volunteering at a local retirement village which she and Rubi started at when Rubi was just two years old. We are lucky to have you, Jess.

01.01.2022 A little stop at the cottage in our park turned into an engaging lesson about the Olden Days, presented by the kind ladies at Nerang Community Association. We learned all about bedpans () and the man who built the house 100 years ago. The ladies commented on how lovely and interested the children were. My answer? They’re all like that. We’re pretty lucky.
