19.01.2022 Dear Caloundra Residents & Visitors, I’m Jake Moss. I’m an artist , a brother, an uncle, a godfather, and I’m also a person who sometimes thinks it’s kinda sad that writing letters to people isn’t a thing we really do anymore and it’s even sadder when you realise this way of communicating won’t be making a comeback. Personal letters were hand written and posted for so long, and I can’t remember the last time I received anything in the mail that wasn’t junk mail or a bi...ll or one of those welcome to the area letters politicians get their assistants to send. So, well, I’d really like to post a letter, one last time, to all of you! If you’d like to join me in this project I invite you to write an open letter about Caloundra, it could be a memory or place or person or hope for the future. Keep an eye on your mail box from a little something from me. I hope to hear from you. All the best, Jake Moss Artwork by Caloundra artist, Leonie Wohlsen https://www.downtowncaloundra.com.au/place2post/ Downtown Caloundra

17.01.2022 These Sunshine Coast kids are ready for disaster - are you? He’s just 10-years-old but Year Five St Joseph's Primary School Nambour student Zac Zeremes wants everyone on the Sunshine Coast to be prepared for severe weather and emergency events. It’s really good for kids to know what to do, so they can talk to their family and neighbours about having an emergency and evacuation kit ready to go, he said. ... You need to have a ‘WHAT-IF’ plan. A ‘WHAT-IF’ plan means everyone in your house knows exactly what to do in any kind of disaster." Zac and his classmates Jordan Gormley, Archie Tollner, Heidi Brumwell and Shyla Lamont won the 2020 Sunshine Coast Get Ready Schools Competition and are now media darlings after starring in Council’s annual disaster awareness campaign, which kicks off this week. DO YOU HAVE A WHAT-IF PLAN? Council, in partnership with emergency services agencies, is calling on all Sunshine Coast residents and businesses to ensure they are disaster ready this Get Ready Queensland Week (October 12 18). There are three simple steps to ensure your household or business is prepared for extreme events. 1) Have an emergency plan in place. 2) Pack supplies pack your emergency and evacuation kits 3) Make sure your insurance has adequate coverage and is up-to-date. And then ... encourage your neighbours to do the same. WHAT GOES INTO MY WHAT-IF PLAN AND GRAB BAG? For full information about what goes into your What-If Plan, visit getready.qld.gov.au You can also sign up to our Coast Alert notification service by downloading the Sunshine Coast Council app on your smart device. 03.01.2022 ADVENTURE SUNSHINE COAST: If Winnie the Pooh lived here, he'd probably say "this feels like a paddling sort of a day", he'd grab his mate Piglet and they'd splash off into the distance, probably with some acorns and a pot of honey ! Um...he doesn't (sorry) so it's just us, sharing a beautiful Sunday paddling adventure you might like to try LAKE COOTHARABA: KINABA KAYAK, KINKIN CREEK, LAKE COMO... Distance 8.0km, Rated intermediate https://adventure.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//TrailDetailsVi Paddle to Kinaba Information Centre to the left of Kinaba Island. This marks the entrance to the Everglades. Kin Kin Creek meets the Noosa River just past the Education Centre. If you head left and westward you will head up Kin Kin Creek. Travel as far as you like and then return. Coming back out of Kin Kin Creek, if you hug to your left and go around you will then be able to head north again. Follow the water up till you get to some signposts to find Figtree Point with its own beautiful campground, jetty, and little 15 minute rainforest circuit walk. Just around the next corner in the river, to the left, is Lake Como. If there’s a breeze a better option may be ‘the narrows’ to the right. In all instances watch the weather, your GPS , and allow plenty of time to return. This makes for a few great individual experiences based from Kinaba or Figtree.
