25.01.2022 Mudjimba Island trip yesterday. With the USC Activate Club. Although i often try to explain what a marvellous paddling experience the Mudjimba Island paddle is, ive done it so many times that i kind of forgot its magic. Well seeing the response of this group yesterday certainly reminded me of why it os such a great paddle. Refreshing! Having to anchor iff behind the surf and swim in only added to their adventure!

24.01.2022 Sunday went really well. With Five parent paddlers, 10 HeartKids and Siblings from 4 years to teens and your courageous leader (me), we had a mighty adventure on the Mooloolah River. Paddling against the tide and wind, the crews gave their all. With a few stops to adjust crews we paddled off into the mangroves, imaginations and crocodile stories flowing wild. Then it was a relaxing drift back to the start with the wind and tide and a whole lot of fun capsizing and swimming to cool things off as the sun shone bright.

23.01.2022 Only one week to go before I get to meet a few HeartKid paddlers and some HeartKid parent paddlers too. Looking forward meeting you all, should be fun and a good way to earn the the BBQ goodies after. Cheers tony

20.01.2022 This is the sort of thing that I can teach you you if you are really keen. Handy when you have lost your paddle in the surf or white water, you are capsized and a long swim from shore. It is also good for showing off your skills.

17.01.2022 Okay HeartKid Kayakers. We have lift off! Thunderbirds are go! And incase that is not clear, THE KAYAKING IS ON, THE BBQ IS ON! SEE YOU AT 9AM! MOOLOOLABA!

17.01.2022 HeartKid families in formation!

15.01.2022 Rain, Rain, Rain, Rain and yet more rain. It's been raining for at least a couple of weeks now straight. I hear a lot about how this is depressing people, Im not referring to those who have been flooded for that is truly depressing, but those who just seem to stop doing stuff because it is wet. I must be duck, not only is my butt close to the ground, but the rain does not faze me that much. I've managed to either paddle, cycle, run or do all three pretty much every day during... this wet period. When the weather is like this i tend to think in terms of what can I do in this weather rather than what I can't. Well paddling is just the thing. Obviously some caution is needed, some places just are not sensible. local creeks are swollen and present certain risks, the local coastal water becomes dirty and full of debris flushed out from farmland, forests and development sites. Yet by watching the weather, the tide and the sea state, there certainly are opportunities to get out on the water. But even when the wind is gale force, the rain is torrential one can always use the backyard pool to practice some skills. And get a pretty good fitness workout in the process. Which is where I'm heading now to practice my rolling. So it doesn't matter if its raining, I'll upside down most of the time anyway. For any of you that are interested, there are several different types of roll. Then variations depending on the type of kayak, type of paddle (or no paddle), body position as you capsize (ie: if you find yourself pinned to the back deck in heavy surf). Then there is the fatigue factor, being able to roll up from what ever position when you are exhausted and breathless, that's when the practice pays off. It beats having to wet exit and then swim your swamped kayak ashore or do a deep water recovery in rough water. So I'm off the exhaust myself. Cheers and happy paddling. :-)

15.01.2022 Well I was out for a paddle this morning and I was pleasantly surprised at how many paddlers told me that they saw my HeartKids light display outside my house last night.

12.01.2022 HeartKid Families from another angle!

09.01.2022 If you are driving past my home at night this month, you will see a big flashing lights display, it's two kids dancing around a heart. If you are wondering why i have my Xmas lights up again, its actually the HeartKids logo and this month is Childhood Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness month. Please help support the search for cures and provision of services for HeartKids and their families. I'll post a photo of it tonight! :-)

05.01.2022 SCK has just added two kayaks to our fleet this week. Two creek boats, tiny little white water kayaks that are great for teaching/learning rolling and a lot of fun in the surf too. This brings our fleet to 19 craft, a mix of wooden, plastic, GRP and kevlar ranging from sea kayaks, racing skis, touring kayaks, sit-on-tops and white water kayaks. In Singles, doubles and even triples!
