17.01.2022 A reminder to everyone. If you see an orphaned or injured bat of any species DO NOT HANDLE. Also make sure your children are aware of this. Cover if you can safely do so and immediately call our 5441 6200 Hotline. Our Hotline volunteers have a list of bat carers in the area who will promptly handle the situation. Our bats do amazing work out there in the environment but rescues need to be done by vaccinated wildlife carers.

16.01.2022 I am babysitting TikTok, a shorteared brushtail possum, for the weekend and it’s good to hear her munching at those leaves. I put a huge variety of foliage in and it looks like they are her favourites. It is good that she races back into her box if I go near the aviary. Shows she’s nearly ready for release out into the wild in her nestbox. Thank you for funding for our nestboxes from the Australian Governments Communities Environment Program. We like our possums to dislike us at this stage. It will improve their survival rate if they look on us as the predators that we are !

14.01.2022 Whilst is it terribly sad when a young, otherwise healthy male koala dies due to car accident, a call informing Wilvos (5541 6200) of this dead koala allowed him to be quickly retrieved and taken to Australia Zoo Wildlife hospital. The vets immediately removed the precious pap from the Koala’s caecum helping to save the lives of other young koalas in care. Pap provides micro-organisms which are essential to the digestion of eucalyptus leaves, and is a rich source of protein. It allows a young koala transition to eating eucalyptus leaves. For older koalas being treated with antibiotics, pap helps stabilise their gut.

13.01.2022 One super excited duck who was released this morning. The others are definitely more ladylike. They grew up so quickly from 23g-32g on arrival.

12.01.2022 Little Squirrel Glider dropped from the beak of a Currawong in front of a jogger. This little one needs 1ml of a special formula every 4 hours around the clock. He is staying cosy in a Humidicrib.

11.01.2022 Grey kangaroos form such strong bonds. It is so important for them to have a ‘mob’.

09.01.2022 Mumma found her fledgling chicks .....

07.01.2022 Shrek, swamp wallaby, arrived into the care of Wilvos in 11 Feb 2020 and was released yesterday.

04.01.2022 If only they could share their conversation with us. Watch out Gian for Valdora’s tail whip.

04.01.2022 Six orphaned ducklings have come into care in the last few days. Two Wood Ducks from Gunalda, one from Gold Coast and one from Burpengary . Two Pacific Black ducks from Caloundra. Did you know that a group of ducks can be called a raft of ducks, a team of ducks or a paddling of ducks. I think this group will be called Team Wilvos.

02.01.2022 These two fledgling pale-headed rosellas came from quite some distance away - the other side of the railway line in Yandina. The young couldn’t fly quite as well as they thought they could and were in danger from the resident dog and the neighbourhoods roaming cats. A week in care should build them up enough to give more uplift and distance to their flying capabilities The day after arrival I had some work being done in my yard so brought them into a smaller aviary on wheels on the patio. The pictures tell the story. How did mumma track them to my place so far away?
