25.01.2022 Barking is a common behavioural issue clients contact us about. Dogs bark for a reason, it's how canines communicate. Uncover the reason, resolve the barking. We can help #sunshinecoastpositivepawsdogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining #forcefreedogtraining #sunshinecoastsmallbusiness #zoomdogtraininglesson

23.01.2022 Evie's Story (Shelter to Forever Home - The Importance of Understanding Canine Body Language) 2 very special humans rescued Evie recently & recognized she was struggling to settle into her new home. This is completely normal for rescue canines. It can take up to 3 months or longer in some cases to feel safe & adapt to a new routine.... Evie's humans understood that the most important 1st step in her training was to learn to understand her body language & what she was trying to communicate. Positive Reinforcement dog training builds resilience & confidence & when rescue canines are understood & trained with empathy they excel. Evie is chewing up (not literally) our Delta Foundation Program which is specifically designed to assist adult canines to learn basic behaviours on cue & thrive in our human world. Well done team, you guys are awesome! (All training is being provided via the online platform Zoom)
23.01.2022 Have you got one of these? Places available for November programs Don't miss the crucial 'socialization window' which closes around 16 weeks. 23.01.2022 Summer is on it's way & that means sunny days The pavement, road & beach can get very hot & uncomfortable for our canines precious paws Check the heat by holding the back of your hand on the surface for 5 seconds. If you cannot hold it there walk at a cooler time
23.01.2022 Wishing our wonderful human & canine clients a safe & happy Christmas. Cas & Leisl
22.01.2022 Teddy's Story (Fear Reactivity) This beautiful boy hit the jackpot when he recently found his forever home. Teddy is 'fear reactive' to unfamiliar canines. This commonly misunderstood behaviour often manifests as growling, barking &/or lunging. Dogs who suffer with this intense fear are most times labelled 'aggressive', frequently end up being surrendered & may lose their lives prematurely :(... Not this guy, his humans are committed to helping him cope & we are seeing a wonderful connection form with his new family. Positive reinforcement training is building Teddy's confidence & resilience. He is starting to feel safe as his humans understand his fear & manage his environment & walks. We are so proud of the progress you are all making & for giving Teddy a 2nd chance (All training is being provided virtually via the Zoom platform)
22.01.2022 Almost all clients we work with have not heard of 'single event learning' or the potential negative impact one moment in time can have on their canine. A long article (attached below) definitely worth the time from the Fear Free movement, we love their work. You may rethink that visit to the dog park or how you manage your dogs day to day life. You may invest some time in understanding your dogs body language & walk away rather than walk towards.... It's all great knowledge & that gives us power to improve the lives of the canines we live with. Happy Training
22.01.2022 We have had the pleasure of meeting & training with this awesome canine. He already has a special place in our 's. Could he be the right fit for you?

09.01.2022 Here @ SCPPDT we support, educate & train using humane dog training methods. We also support responsible & ethical dog breeders. We are hoping 'Austrax Australian Cattle Dogs' can find the perfect human for Star. She is potentially another Delta Therapy Dog in the making & we all know the world needs more of them.... Here's what Star's (& my own Blue's) breeder has to say about this precious pup: 'I thought I had found Star her perfect home but it wasn't to be. Anyone looking for a wonderful companion dog? Just putting it out to the universe because I'm being extra fussy about where she goes' We are happy to pass on your details if you think Star could be looking for you

07.01.2022 Storm Preparation Thunderstorms can be terrifying for some dogs. The Sunshine Coast is in for some more storms today, see tips below: * Create somewhere safe - crate or den area, cover to block lightening flashes * Music can block noise & affect the nervous system. Research has shown that classical music has a soothing affect on canines. * Gentle Pressure from a fitted t- shirt or your hand can feel comforting... * Distraction from noise can be a wonderful way to get your dog to refocus. Scatter food, use toys & use high value treats *Professional Advice may be required if your canine is showing signs of stress and/or storm phobia, panting, pacing, shaking or unable to take treats are some signs *Training using a classical conditioning approach which aims to help your canine associate thunder with something he or she loves. Talk to us about a training plan #positivereinforcementdogtraining #fearfreedogtraining #deltainstitute #sunshinecoastsmallbusiness #sunshinecoastpositivepawsdogtraining #stayhomewithyourdog

06.01.2022 Happy Easter (please share) While we are all safe at home this Easter it is important to remember some Easter treats are toxic to our canines & other pets. * Chocolate - highly toxic as contains Theobromine, just 50g can kill a dog * Hot Cross Buns - highly toxic as contain sultanas which can cause acute kidney failure... Other foods to avoid sharing are avocados, nuts, onion, garlic, fatty meats, cooked bones & alcohol. If you suspect your dog may have consumed any of these foods seek veterinary advice. Have a wonderful, restful break. Cas & Leisl

05.01.2022 Puppy Training Tip Q How do I get my puppy to sleep? A Positive Reinforcement Training... Demonstrated here by the gorgeous Hazel. Well done to her fabulous humans for understanding the importance of appropriate socialisation before the crucial 16 week period closes & for starting her training early. 10 minutes of training can be equivalent to a lengthy walk & is more appropriate for pups prior to their 1st vaccinations. #positivereinforcementdogtraining #fearfreedogtraining #auravethospital #sunshinecoastpositivepawsdogtraining #labradorpuppy
