23.01.2022 She's got strings on! Sounds great

20.01.2022 Not long ago, a man in New Zealand contacted me and I had the opportunity to buy back the first violin (on the left) I ever made, back in 1994! The violin on the right is my most recent... Notice the difference in the varnish? The violin on the right has a far superior finish. I have learnt a lot since my first creation, when I would add colour to the varnish to get the desired tone of the wood. ... As you can see, that method compromises the appearance of the woods natural grain and prevents it from shinning through. There is the appearance of depth to the wood of the violin on the right that my first instrument does not compare to. Allowing the wood the darken naturally by exposing it to the sun is the way I do it now. This is done naturally (putting the instrument outside), but the Australian climate is not exactly suitable because moisture and humidity affect the wood. Causing it to contract and expand. Now days I place the instrument in a specially designed cupboard with UV lighting. As you can see, this makes for a beautiful finish. A warm golden brown with depths that a person can get lost in. But the most important thing to remember is that the varnish not only enhances the beauty of the wood, but the final sound of the instrument, due to the porous nature of wood. I will post pictures of my first ever violin, again, once I have made her even better!! Watch this space.....

12.01.2022 Hello Everyone!! Many thanks to you for liking my page :-) If you could share with your friends or anyone else you think is interested I would appreciate it greatly :-) Enjoy the rest of your day!!

09.01.2022 This old girl came to me in a sad state recently!.. A deep split in the neck just below the head with a couple of repair attempts previous tried. The right type of glue is essential in an area like this!! Immense pressure on the neck will give any adhesive a run for its money!!... It's a couple Months on now and all is well. A huge thank you to Loz Athey for the opportunity!! She now sports a scar with a tale to tell! Chicks dig scars, or so I'm told :-)
