25.01.2022 How can you help us? Please save your recyclable drink containers! We can pick up from you on the Sunshine Coast or you are welcome to drop off at Kuluin (in exchange for a joey cuddle!) If you know someone with a bar, restaurant, cafe, please tag them in this post. Like the page, share the page.....this is how we offset some of our costs.

25.01.2022 Hoppy National Kangaroo Awareness Day. Time to wake the hell up and stop the slaughter/culling/eating of our national animal. The only country in the world that these animals are endemic to, a huge huge tourism drawcard, an icon recognised world wide. An animal supposedly protected under the Native Animals Act, yet permits to murder are freely available.... See more
24.01.2022 Welcome to Sunshine Coast Wildlife Rehabilitation. We have been rehabbing native wildlife for 12+ years here on the Sunshine Coast. We specialise in raising very young macropods (Kangaroos & Wallabies) that are sick, injured or orphaned. We are available to rescue any native animal 24/7 and are also licensed for snake and possum relocations.
24.01.2022 OK who woke me up early? It's Sunday you Wally's!
24.01.2022 Poor Rhianna just isnt 100% at the moment. When wildlife get ill it can turn pear shaped quickly, so we got her to AZWH for a check up. Nothing obvious is showing at the moment, hopefully its just the heat. Lots of TLC for her today tho. Shes certainly enjoying her post General Anaesthetic slumber
23.01.2022 This spunky lil dude came to us via our friends at Wildlife Rescue Fraser Coast. His mum was sadly yet another road victim, left to die writhing in pain roadside. A passing motorist stopped to assist and realised she had a joey on board. Mum was humanely euthanased and joey safely removed from the teat. WRFC then arranged to meet our hero en route to pick up Dale the joey (named after the amazing human who stopped). Dale is an Eastern Grey Kangaroo weighing in at a healthy 950gms. Seriously, how could anyone hit an animal and continue driving
23.01.2022 Our fluffy butts need to hitch a ride to Murphys Creek (Toowoomba), sometime in the next week, for the final stage of our rehabilitation prior to release. Their will be 6 of us in total, all securely contained. We are only little but will need to take up the back seat of your car. You wont need to do anything with us other than pick up and drop off (cuddles optional at drop off/pick up!) We will be very well behaved and likely sleep all the way. Pls send our Mum a msg if you can assist.
23.01.2022 Monkey see, monkey do Scottie was intently watching Rupert take his first "steps" earlier this evening....and decided to try as well a few hours later. Hes a week or two younger than Rupert and even more unco. Looks like its time for these two to go in the portacot so we dont have any injuries if they escape when we arnt around!
23.01.2022 Apparently I have an extra coming to work with me....wouldnt be the first time, but she was a scrawny little pinky when she was last in my bag #Peaches #Redneckedwallaby
22.01.2022 Scotty Eastern Grey Kangaroo and newcomer Jessie Swamp Wallaby. Jessie came to us this week after she was found trying to get into her dead mums pouch. Shes still a little shy but quickly making friends
22.01.2022 Anyone with toddlers can identify with this Rhianna, Jelly & Peaches Rednecked Wallabies. I reckon we could fit another 3!
21.01.2022 Rhianna came into our care this evening after her mum was hit by a car last night on the Fraser Coast. She was transported to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital this morning. Rhianna was thrown from Mums pouch and has sustained some painful injuries, however Xrays are showing no broken bones. She is on some good pain killers for the next few days and we are crossing everything in the hope her eyesight will be ok.
21.01.2022 Accidents happen. We get that. It's your actions afterwards that count. This very healthy mum was killed on the Sunshine Motorway at the Maroochy Blvd offramp, southbound today. At a guess I would say about 6 -6:30am. It was light, you must have known you hit her. Her leg was snapped with serious head injuries. Her death would have been fairly insantaneous. The joey in her pouch suffered a little longer. Broken leg and internal bleeding. How long would it have taken you to make ONE phone call?
20.01.2022 Their is always a special one....remember Rupert the little pinkie from Coolum Resort, (page cover photo), hes learning to hop and has been for several weeks....he has 2 speeds. Flat out and stop....problem is he doesnt know how to stop from flat out. #Rupert #easterngreykangaroo
19.01.2022 Roo kisses and toe tickles for cousins Harlow & Malakai. Hard to believe the roos in just a couple of years will weigh 40kgs+ and want nothing to do with people! All our animals, as per QLD law are released into the wild. Its a gradual process, in a few weeks they leave us and go to carers with much larger properties and so the dehumanising process begins until the gates are opened and they come and go freely.
18.01.2022 Little Rhianna the Rednecked Wallaby who came in on Monday is healing well. I suspect in another week she will have a gorgeous pink head
17.01.2022 Sorry Karl...I know I said #12 was the last. Then promised #13 was the last...but sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness than beg permission right? And I really don't know how it happened...but how cute is #14 Little No Name Eastern Grey Girl just snuck into a pouch a few days ago...and it took 24 hrs before I was busted
17.01.2022 Rhianna Redneck Wallaby exploring from the safety of her pouch. Her head injury is well healed now
16.01.2022 Snoozy morning feels
16.01.2022 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10159204118243991&id=523008990 Anyone have unwanted cat cages please?
16.01.2022 Good Morning pouch buddyPeaches and Rhianna Rednecked Wallabies
16.01.2022 Absolutely perfect in every way. This 2 day old male Eastern Grey joey was in Mums pouch, cruelly ripped off Mums teat from the impact of her being hit by a car. I estimate she was hit about 5:30am, North bound on the Sunshine motorway just before Coolum. Her death was pretty much instant, her head on the road still. A danger to motorists in a 100km zone. The gutless excuse for a human, that hit her, couldnt even call it in.
16.01.2022 Hoppy when she was a little tacker this time last year
15.01.2022 Hard to get a photo of something so small and wriggly! Introducing Ariel Swamp Wallaby. Ariel came to us one week ago weighing just 138gm!
15.01.2022 Welcome lucky number 13! Paul Eastern Grey came to us via Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after he was found all alone in a paddock. Paul is way to young to be out of his mums pouch. She was most likely chased by dogs and Paul thrown from her pouch. He has been given the all clear from any injuries and will now spend the next 12 plus months in care before being released back to the wild.
14.01.2022 Kangaroo Please feel free to like our page :-)
14.01.2022 So its been four months since we rescued little Rupert and his injured mum from the Palmer Coolum Resort. Sadly Rupert's mum didn't make it but here are some shots after we got Rupert that day and photos now. He is growing so fast :-)
14.01.2022 Does anyone have access to slip tip 10ml syringes please? We use them firstly for sub cutaneous fluids then recycle for feeding. However the rubber deteriorates after a week or so. At the moment we are going thru a LOT! They do need to be in the sterile wrapper, but its ok if they have expired. Thank you in advance
13.01.2022 Whats a guy gotta do to get some privacy around here? Dale trying to catch a few rays and Rupert showing some roo love! #nudesunbaking #rooluv #easterngreykangaroo
13.01.2022 How little is this cutie! He is one of 3 rescues this morning involving two trips to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hosp. He is a Squirrel Glider found in the pouch of his dead mum. He still has mums teat in his mouth. When a marsupial is attached to the teat we need to cut the teat and wait for them to spit it out. If an animal is pulled off the teat it can cause a lot of damage usually resulting in death to the bub.
13.01.2022 9pm. Driving down the highway with yet another road accident victim on board. This time a swamp wallaby left on the side of the road with broken legs. Please, if you hit ANY animal, call a rescuer immediately. We understand accidents happen...but we cannot understand how anyone can leave an animal to die a slow, very painful death.
12.01.2022 Manaia getting up close and personal with some of our babies.
11.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to Ian and Karen from Little Paws Kitten Rescue ( Little Paws Kitten Rescue Association ) in Brisbane for kindly donating to us some bat wraps for use during the upcoming baby bat season. These are great to use when we go out to rescue orphaned or injured baby bats. It makes them feel secure and reduces their stress levels. It's great to have other animal groups appreciate what we do and assist where they can.... Great work Ian and Karen :-)
11.01.2022 Exciting news: Hoppy our Red Kangaroo from ages ago has been released way out west. She still comes back for extra feed every day. But...she has a little joey on board
10.01.2022 Jelly was admitted to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital on 7th May weighing 250g. Her Mum was hit by a car and killed. Jelly was thrown from her pouch. After x rays confirmed no fractures, she was given to me the following day. She was on a nebuliser for breathing issues and painkillers for bruising. Her little back was purple. 2 days later she rubbed her hocks red raw. A definite sign of pain. I put her on a stronger pain killer for 2 days....and as the photos show, 2 weeks later she is thriving. Currently weighing 320gm. Jelly is a Rednecked Wallaby.
10.01.2022 Oooh Dad, whats that in there? Rhianna meets our newest arrival, Paloma. Weighing just 230gm shes already an inquisitive little lady. #RedneckedWallabies
09.01.2022 Everyone can make a difference :-(
08.01.2022 OK Mum...no milk in my cereal, are you serious?
08.01.2022 Get on over to these guys and show their page some , then get on down and check out their amazing food. Jo has been collecting bottles and cans to support our critters, every single week, for about a year now. Cant thank her enough!
08.01.2022 Today Harry, Xanthea & Rachel Whiptail Wallabies move on the the next stage of care. Because we live in the middle of suburbia, we cant soft release. So we send them out to carers on acreage to finish the job for us! These 3 are off to Connondale where they will spend about 9 months slowly getting weaned and learning how to be real wallabies! When they are ready the gates are opened and they come and go as they please.
07.01.2022 Hmmm....is this a meeting of the escape committee or a gossip session?
07.01.2022 Something a little different from our usual roos and wallabies, meet little Kouneli (greek for rabbit). Hes a Hare or more specifically a Leveret. Baby Hares are left in the grass while Mum goes off to do Hare stuff sometimes one will get parted from its siblings for various reasons and needs to come into care. Hares are legal in QLD but dont make very good pets, so we are permitted to release them.
07.01.2022 It's been a long journey... Rupert the roo was in his mum's pouch when his mum was suspected to have been hit by a car around the Palmer Coolum Resort. This was at the start of Covid restrictions earlier in the year. We found mum with a hip injury so called out Vicky, one of the vet nurses from the RSPCA Eumindi Wildlife Refuge who is licenced to blowdart injured wildlife. After successfully darting mum and following her until she lay down due to the effects of the sedative, ...we found a small pinky joey in mum's pouch. We loaded mum on a golf cart, loaned to us by the golf course, to take mum with baby in pouch back to the car park for transport to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Vicky transported mum roo to the AZWH but sadly, after arrival, mum had to be euthanised due to her severe injuries. Shortly after we received a call from the AZWH asking if we would like to care for an Eastern Grey Kangaroo pinky joey that had been brought in with his injured mum. After a couple of questions we realised it was the pinky joey that we had just rescued with his mum from the resort. The nurses at the AZWH named him Rupert :-) Like all Kangaroos, Rupert had his own personality and physical differences. As he was getting bigger we gave him the nickname "Barge Arse" due to his rear end getting larger faster than the rest of him. As he got bigger he began to get into proportion more and more but the nickname stuck. Fast forward to Monday this week 16 Nov 2020, and Rupert has moved to another carer on a huge property to learn how to be a real Kangaroo with buddies Opal, Lucky and Scotty. Here are some pics of when we found him in the pouch to the day he left us for greener pastures :-)
06.01.2022 A huge THANK YOU to our amazing followers for your recyclable drink container donations. Im not even sure where some are coming from, they just arrive at the top of our drive And a special thank you to Ashleigh and her awesome children who donated all their Woolies vouchers from can collections. Your recyclable items mean we are able to assist even more wildlife. We use the money to help fund milk powders, teats, feeding supplements, toilet paper (lots of little bottoms to wipe!), wet wipes and otc medications. If you or someone you know, would like to assist, please just flick us a message. Happy to exchange for joey cuddles!
04.01.2022 This gorgeous Mountain Brushtail Possum was found in the toilet of a local pub after falling thru the ceiling manhole. Mountain Brushies usually carry on like pork chops and want to rip your hand off, so when she let me place her in the basket with relative ease, I was a little concerned. After spending the night at AZWH she was given the all clear from injury and it was discoved she was carrying a precious bundle in her pouch. The following evening we took her back to her territory for release....where she took off like a rocket, without so much as a thank you
04.01.2022 Been a little while since we've done this. Adult swamp wallaby hit by car on a busy road. Called in by just one person. Incredibly greatful to him, but what a disgrace that the other hundred + vehicles and pedestrians did nothing. Hes very much alive but his injuries will likely mean humane euthanasia. Much nicer than dehydrating and slowly dying in severe pain.
03.01.2022 He was a very healthy young male. His plasma and pap will go to help other wallabies. How can you hit an animal in a 40km zone
03.01.2022 And they just keep coming Scotty Eastern Grey Roo was tucked up in mums pouch just a few nights ago, when she was hit by a car. Mum was killed instantly. Council workers scooped up her broken body and threw it on the truck unaware of the precious cargo on board. At the tip weighbridge a vigilant staff member saw Scotty still in mums pouch....they promptly contacted Wildlife Rescue Fraser Coast who were able to assist immediately. Scotty weighs 1.3kg and will be in care for 12 -18 months before being released back into the wild.
02.01.2022 This Flying Fox got his foot stuck in a fence paling in Mooloolaba this morning. Was very obvious as this fence fronts onto a busy road. Two roaming dogs were harrassing it. Totally unbeliveable that only ONE person reported it. He is now on his way to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. My fingers are crossed that hes only suffered soft tissue damage, but X Rays will confirm.
02.01.2022 Peaches Redneck Wallaby, plotting her escape
02.01.2022 This evenings call out was to assist another rescuer with a kangaroo hit by a car. We suspect she was hit this morning in a 25kph area of the university....her injuries were so severe that euthanasing was the only humane option. The bad news doesnt end there, she had a 1 week old unviable pinkie in her pouch. How the hell anyone can hit an animal in a 25kph area is beyond me....but then just drive off and leave it?
02.01.2022 Rupert taking his first hops, ummm falls!
01.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW: Koalas need flying foxes to survive? Some trees such as Australian eucalypts (koala favourites) only flower at night. This means they depend on the nocturnal activity of flying-foxes for survival. Flying foxes are major pollinators helping spread native flowers and spread seeds. NO ME, NO TREE... Without flying-foxes, there would be: no food and shelter for our koalas no pristine habitat for our native birds and no magnificent forests for all of us to enjoy. Head to our website for tips on living with this incredibly important native species: www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/flyingfoxes Photo and post courtesy of Sunshine Coast Council
01.01.2022 Lazy days for some :-)
01.01.2022 I picked up this perfect little boy near the Mooloolaba bat colony this morning. Hes very healthy, but should be with his Mum He is now on his way to an amazing bat carer where he will receive around the clock care along with his new brothers and sisters. He will be released back to the wild around February. Please dont touch any bats unless vaccinated. If you find a sick, injured or orphaned bat please call or msg so we can put you on to the nearest vaccinated rescuer.
