25.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday this week is Jules Lieu from Class of 07 ? There are just too many memories that were awesome! But all the laughs shared with teachers and mates that are now lifelong friends would be my favourite moments.... ? Mr. Pitrakkou was my S. O. S. E teacher and campus principal [at West]. Having the principal as your teacher was nerve racking but this man had a great sense of humour. He can take a joke and dish it out! Mr. Batey was my drama and S. O. S. E teacher. He wore a suit every day and had a poker face. He saw in me what I didnt see in myself, and encouraged me to strive for the best. We had great experiences in his classes - from meeting Janine Allis (owner of Boost Juice) at a young leaders forum to going to the theatre to watch Shakespeares Twelfth Night. My only regret is not having an umbrella sitting so close to the front! Mr. Krasts was my biology and chemistry teacher. He stayed back during lunch times and after school to give students extra tutoring and he was always very thorough in explaining and helped me immensely in my VCE years. ? I own a mechanic shop in Braybrook now. Keeping myself running the business since the end of last year and am in the midst of completing my majors in counselling. ? I enjoy meeting new and old faces, maintaining and fixing peoples pride and joy at a decent price and seeing them smile. (Come visit me Mr. Batey, we specialise in Mercedes-Benz). In my course, I love being blessed to assist people in improving themselves. Plenty to learn and plenty to give. Its a rewarding career pathway for me. ? Enjoy your time in high school. Your teachers arent your enemies, theyre a fountain of knowledge thats there to guide you. Figure out what you want to do. If you dont get there the first time, try again.
25.01.2022 While students are learning from home, were cleaning out the Ardeer Campus and in the library I found a copy of our 1998 Ardeer Campus magazine. There are class photos and student art, as well as a scathing review of the 90s pop scene. Take a look! #ThrowbackThursday

20.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday This weeks profile features Stella Ames - another Class of 2007 graduate! :... My favourite memories would have to be hanging out on the school oval with friends and talking about everything and anything. All the laughs we had in class with the teachers and the competitiveness in PE! ? Ms Young was by far my favourite teacher through high school. It only takes that one special person to believe in you and you can achieve greatness. She was always there to listen and support me no matter what. Ms Young was a very positive teacher and person who inspired me to always strive to my best abilities. I looked forward to school because of her and I always felt like I had her endless support. We all have things going on in our personal lives but having a support person is crucial to being happy. We always had a laugh in her Literature class and Ill never forget the memories which were created there! ? I am currently the Educational Leader and Nominated Supervisor at a Kindergarten in North Sunshine. I run two 4 year old programs and support over 58 families and their children. I love my job because I am constantly helping people as well as providing an education program which helps get children ready for Primary School. I have always wanted to work with children and thanks to the support of my teachers in high school I was able to achieve my passion! ? I love helping people. Where I work there are many vulnerable families as its a very low socioeconomic area. I provide ongoing support, create a positive and welcoming learning environment, build relationships, help children to feel like they belong and empower parents. Many of my families are English as a second language and therefore find it difficult to communicate their needs and wants. I provide many services to give families their voice and to create the best possible support and program I can for their children. : Never give up. Even when youre having a hard day just remember that nothing lasts forever and there is always something positive around the corner. Find your support person, whether it be a teacher, friend or family member. Always have a voice and speak about your feelings and be brave. Anyone can achieve their dreams if they set goals and put their mind to it!!! Good luck! *** Were always looking for more alumni to join our program. If youd like to be featured in our ThrowbackThursday profile, or interested in coming back to school to chat to students, please send us a message at [email protected] and let us know: - Year you graduated - Any post-high school study - What youre doing for work / study now

15.01.2022 Alumni update: COVID-19 As we are closely watching the current news with the COVID-19 virus, and waiting on further advice from the Department of Education and Training, we have postponed or cancelled many activities at Sunshine College. While schools are still open, we are now operating differently in order to practice social distancing: we have already cancelled assemblies, excursions, camps and work experience.... Our priority is keeping our community safe, and unfortunately this has put a halt to our alumni activities, as we can no longer have large groups of students together and have limited visitors to school. Thank you to all our wonderful alumni who have generously offered support and work experience placements for our students, and we know the students are disappointed they will no longer be able to participate. We hope you keep safe and healthy during this time: Wash your hands regularly, scrubbing with soap for at least 20 seconds Stay home if youre unwell Dont forget to look out for our vulnerable (e.g. elderly, immune compromised, have a long-term medical condition). 14.01.2022 Big thank you to our Sunshine College alumni for coming back to speak to the Year 11 students studying health and human development at the Senior Campus. In this session, we brought back alumni who are working in a health and sport-related fields to talk about their experience at university and in their respective jobs, and what they wish they had have known before going into tertiary study and the workforce. It was inspiring to hear your stories, from career highs like enco...uraging more diversity in local cricket clubs, to recovering from lows like losing a university scholarship. Its so important for students to hear honest stories about their career paths, so thank you Alan, Margaret and Osman! If you want to get involved in the program, message us through this page or send an email to [email protected].

It was one of the first schools to focus on building skills in trades. ... Here are some archive photos of our trades students in the McKay Trade Wing (unfortunately dates unknown). Are you in any of the photos, or know someone who is? Tag them in the comments.

10.01.2022 #ThrowbackThursday Sheree Fraczek (Nee: Pozzebon) Class of 2001 FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF YOUR SCHOOL DAYS? Making lifelong friends that I still see on a regular basis. One year we did the Eco Challenge under the guise of the late, great Peter Halson, where we trekked through the Grampians and only had what we could carry to last us for 5 days. We each had to use a compass and lead our way with a map. We bush-bashed through thick terrain and cooperated with one another and crea...ted a bond of trust that saw us through the hard times. We were racing against other teams, which included private schools. We won overall. It was the best week of our lives. WHO WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TEACHER AND WHY? Peter Halson. He was very knowledgeable and always took the time to assist you with school work. He was also laid back, but at the same time strict. WHAT JOB OR COURSE ARE YOU DOING NOW? I am a call centre agent for Australia Post. Whenever you need assistance and call 13POST, chances are you speak to someone like me who will assist you through with whatever issue you may have. I have been here for almost a year and love it. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB OR COURSE? The thing I enjoy most about my job is being able to deal with a new problem every day as not all calls are the same. I really love the fun things that present themselves to us like roadshow events, Friday fun days and competitions being held constantly. It is a very inviting atmosphere and the people I work with are fantastic and very supportive in nature. WHATS THE BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO CURRENT STUDENTS? I never knew what I wanted to do when I left school. I have done various jobs and I have finally found a job that I really do enjoy and mirrors my current family life commitments. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, then you are not living your full potential. 10.01.2022 Sunshine West High School and West Campus alumni - have you seen our new facilities? Below is the Facebook live tour we hosted on the Sunshine College page, and even though the tour goes for 47 minutes, we couldnt fit it all in! Were so excited to show off the new buildings at the Lachlan Road campus, including a competition-grade gym, purpose built STEM building and a performing arts space.... The buildings may be unrecognisable, but weve tried to honor the history of Sunshine College by re-purposing what we can, like our gorgeous art room tables from the Senior Campus that have been refinished. And we still have that million dollar view of the city! Our students will move into this campus starting Term 3, and were looking forward to welcoming back our alumni for school tours and events at our new facilities (when restrictions are lifted and its safe to do so).

08.01.2022 SPEED CAREERS - Monday 21 October Were looking for alumni to join us for an upcoming Speed Careers session at the North Campus for current Year 9 students at Sunshine College. This session will involve you answering students questions and giving career advice based on your career pathway and experience, as well as leading mock job interviews to help prepare students for the real thing (dont worry, well give you all the questions, so nothing to prepare on your end!). This ...event will be run with Ardoch, and will include some local business leaders and non-alum which were really excited about. However, we know that students feel an immediate connection to people from their community, who understand their school and challenges, which is why we think its important to involve our alumni in these events. If youre interested in getting involved or you know someone who might be (dob them in by tagging them in the comments!), send an email to us at [email protected] to find out more. As a bonus, youll get to see the brand new North Campus facilities, which look amazing! (Photo: Alum Ha Tran at the 2018 speed careers session)

06.01.2022 May 6th 2020 is a day for all of us to celebrate and embrace the diversity of body shapes, that we are all perfect as we are. A day to remind us to focus on being kind to ourselves and think about how we are looking after our bodies, especially important now that were all a little stressed out and not living how we normally do.
