24.01.2022 Over the years of Clean Up Australia we have collected hundreds of bottles left or dropped on our cliffs and foreshore. We have also actively advocated for a return to proper recycling to counteract this. Now it is proposed to allow Coke and lion to take over this scheme. Please sign the attached petition. Thank so much.

24.01.2022 Thank you Darcy for all your wonderful knowledge. So privileged to have had you as a teacher. Vale.

23.01.2022 Lets recycle even more.

22.01.2022 There are a few koalas left in the Mount Martha area and they used to come down into Sunshine Reserve regularly. We need to preserve those we have around the area, so please join the campaign.

22.01.2022 Yes! New councillors all about being waste wise #wastewisepeninsula #bergmtmartha #caringforourenvironment #caringforourcommunity https://www.facebook.com/354587334944044/posts/1125656611170442/

22.01.2022 Briars Ward and Seawinds Ward residents. This following letter from myself, Gill Gordon, is being publicised here, suggesting local residents make their thoughts and feeling perfectly clear to all the councillors. Democracy in action. Every councillor has a mobile number, and an email listed on the shire website. They are there for you to access. According to the Mornington News, also available on line or in hard copy, the mayor receives $100,000 p.a. and a car for commu...nity activities. With other councillors receiving over $30,000 per annum. Previous recording of the new council induction and first community meeting can be found on the Shire website. We pay them through our rates to represent the community. "As a community representative since 1976 on several committees, advisory groups, appointed by previous and current Councillors, working for and advocating for better deals for the community and who been a recipient of two Council Commendations as well as the prestigious Dame Phyllis Frost Award for voluntary services to the community, with interest, I watched the swearing in of Councillors, Mayoral handover and the recent first zoom council meeting from start to finish. All Councillors swore an oath of office yet it appears Cr Marsh has backtracked in under 2 weeks!! Because he says he does not believe in God. The last Agenda item marked Urgent Business Cr Marsh led the charge to remove the prayer. He was heard to say, he did not want to be part of this council as he did not feel comfortable!! So what made him stand to represent the community? It was perfectly obvious that at this first meeting was there was a push to remove more experienced Councillors who might represent the community. Very disrespectful and disappointing. Respect for another’s views is fundamental to our democracy. All Councillors are elected to represent the community, not their personal viewpoint. That’s why we voted them in. Our community has many "versions" of God, whether Christian or Muslim or Hindu. Our aboriginal family , Bunnarong and Boon Wurrung along with other Kulin Nation members certainly believe in a higher being; Bunjil. This issue needs proper community discussion, not wiped because someone feels uncomfortable. This is not how community decisions are made. It looks like a divisive situation. We the community will suffer from this infighting and awful display of personal feelings. It was disappointing that community was not welcomed to online via YouTube live streaming meeting." 20.01.2022 Now more people are out and about, and things wrong, like destroyed fences, or damage from trail bikes and bmx - dumped rubbish - please Snap Send Solve - It works. Recently three large boxes were dumped on Forest Drive, and the dumper kindly left the Shire their name and address! So prosecutions happen!

18.01.2022 How good are we are recycling - how well do you do recycling?

14.01.2022 For community members who transit through Sunshine Reserve, in particular the Upper Reserve, please read this letter from the owner of the adjoining private land in relation to forthcoming action for annual bushfire preparedness and to address recreational activities that have been occurring on the land." NOTICE TO NEIGHBOURS "Dear Neighbour, As landowners of the former farmland at 121 & 131 Hearn Rd in Mt Martha, we are aware of the risk of bushfire to the community in the ...immediate area. We have also spoken with some neighbours who have expressed concern about potential bushfire risk in the area. In the leadup to this fire season, we have commissioned advice from a Fire Safety Consultant and had the site inspected by Council and the CFA. All advice leads to the need for a significant maintenance regime for the upcoming summer period being undertaken to improve the fire safety of the land. Work will commence later this month. There will be significant machinery on site undertaking the fire clearing works. For your safety please observe signage and stay off the property. It is important to note that the land is privately owned, currently there are various non-permitted recreational activities such as bushwalking, mountain biking and social gatherings occurring on the land. The boundary fencing will be repaired and replaced in locations where it is required, and new signage will be installed at points where existing paths enter the land. We ask you to respect these signs as unlawful entry onto the land is not only trespassing but creates a risk of uncontrolled use on the site. We are aware that there are some tracks that navigate through the Sunshine Creek Reserve and encourage the community to use these. " If you have any comments, queries or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us at the email address below. Please include your details when making comments so we are aware of your location and contact details. Kinds Regards Landowners of 121 & 131 Hearn Rd Mt Martha [email protected] See more

10.01.2022 Reposted from @birdlifeoz Counting Rainbows: the Aussie Backyard Bird Count results are IN! With 2020 being full of bad news droughts, bushfires, COVID many... of us have been looking for a rainbow. And together, that’s exactly what we found! Unprecedented numbers of you across Australia took part this year, and overwhelmingly, you found Rainbow Lorikeets more than half a million of them! A huge thank you to everyone who submitted a survey during the 2020 Aussie Backyard Bird Count together we counted more than 4.6 million birds in 7 days! Overall, the top ten species recorded in Australia in 2020 was largely the same as last year, with Noisy Miners, Magpies, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Galahs rounding out the top 5. The Australian White Ibis (the polarising bird also known as the Bin Chicken) finished in tenth spot. While participation rates rose substantially in every state, the number of counters in Victoria, which had the longest and strictest lockdown measures, more than doubled testament to the solace that our backyard birds can provide during tough times. Across Australia, wherever you counted this year, thank you for being such an important part of the Aussie Backyard Bird Count! By taking part in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, you have contributed to BirdLife Australia's understanding of how our local bird populations are faring. Thank you! #bergmtmartha #citizenscience #caringforourcommunity #backyardbirdcount

09.01.2022 This is the way to seed places which are hard to access. I understand the technique is very successful.

08.01.2022 Let's end 2020 with another contribution to our earth. Have you some of Grandma's fabric in the cupboard?, or buy a Boomerang bag for $2 available from our local shops or Mount Martha House., and wrap your presents in that? Save trees and save paper.
