24.01.2022 Did you know that humans have been using a form of the Abacus since 460 BC? A great tool for introducing the early concepts of addition and subtraction, an abacus can help make math make sense! Try using it as a tool for basic counting skills or use the abacus to make designs and patterns with the colours. This is a wonderful activity for practicing fine motor and visual perception skills.... How cute is the concentration in this photo! #sunshinechildcare #sunshineldc

23.01.2022 SUNSHINE CHILDCARE TEACHING CHILDREN PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS This week is NAPCAN week discussing child safety. Protective Behaviours is an empowerment program that promotes happy, healthy, adventurous and life enhancing activities, all within a framework of safety. Just as you would keep a child safe from the sun by using sunscreen we keep our children safe by empowering them with lifelong skills of assertiveness, self-confidence, problem solving and communication.... The protective behaviours approach is not negative, scary or confronting. We simply are teaching children to listen to their intuition and their own feelings so that they are safe. Protective behaviours is just that, teaching children behaviours helping them to be safe, in a non confronting way. Child protection is different to protective behaviours. Child protection entails the community around each child and how we are creating a safe environment for our children. "Shaping the childrens future with fun and care". #sunshinechildcare #sunshineldc #sunshineoshc #sunshinerockingham

20.01.2022 Week 2 - day 10 - vacation care "It is always a bonus having science being presented in a fun and exciting manner. Today Mr. Mike from Nitro Mike came to Sunshine OSHC centre with his special flask of liquid nitrogen. The students were discovered the change of matter from solid to liquid to gas in a fun and exciting way. Watched a flower disintegrate, a banana being used as a hammer and a balloon that is inflated (and wondering how big it will get before it pops!). Watched another balloon being totally deflated and then magically reinflate and of course the dancing disco ping pong ball. The highlight of the show is ice cream been made with liquid nitrogen and then all our children had tasted the end product! #sunshineoshc

15.01.2022 Hi Families One of our wonderful Oshc Families is asking for our help! Donna and Dave Roberts have 2 superstar children, one of their children named Seren was born with a genetic condition called NF1 - this condition has no cure, and in her nearly 9 years on this planet has had to endure more than any child should. She has had numerous surgeries to have tumours removed and has an inoperable brain tumour. Because of this condition Donna became a volunteer for the Childrens Tum...our Foundation as the Fremantle Race Director, and every year they hold a charity run.in their undiesCupids Undie Run. Donna works tirelessly every year with an amazing crew for it to be successful and raise much need funds for research . She is committed to improving the quality of Seren and other childrens lives. SO.she has been nominated to win a $10,000 grant for the Childrens Tumour Foundation. She just needs your help with a VOTE! Super simple and will take you less than two seconds - not exaggerating. If you are also able to share this post that would be equally spectacular! When Donna wins - not if - then she will be arranging a camp for these little Heros and their families. It will be the FIRST in WA and cannot even begin to tell you how much this would mean to the NF community. To have some fun, to be stress free, to not worry about the next MRI, to not be stared at, to feel accepted and most importantly - to feel included. NF can be very disfiguring and many of those that suffer live in isolation. These camps have such a positive impact on the mental health of entire families, not just the kids. https://www.ctf.org.au/page/225/westfield-local-heroes
