16.01.2022 AH. MORE LATE NIGHT THOUGHTS! On the back of 911, the public underwent mass psychological trauma. We were filled with fear by having negative news pumped into o...ur lounge rooms daily. Almost all of us were never at any time under any direct personal threat of terrorism, yet governments were able to use that public fear to pass a range of 1984 surveillance style laws and initiate and maintain a string of wars, which to this day still make no moral sense. The same has happened now with Covid. Now I am not debating the virus itself. And I am not pointing fingers of blame. I am simply saying that we have been impacted more severely than even 911 in the fear we have taken on board as a society with the pandemic. Not only has TV been running fearful stories 24/7, we now also have the added unrelenting impact of social media. And its a fact that this has been very convenient to some governments. Do you remember just prior to the virus, many parts of the world were experiencing unprecedented civil unrest? Yellow vests in France, riots in Hong Kong, South America - in fact there was major civil unrest in 47 countries in 2019! Now I am not saying that governments were smart enough to plan this (hmm?) - but I think it has been a really useful outcome for them. As they were able to use the fear of terrorism to control the populous in 2001 - they now have a new proven weapon to control the public, the fear of biology. So - what does this new public embrace of fear mean for us plebs on the ground. Well, I can only comment on what I know - for musicians and entertainers it sucks! As we start putting on shows again, I hear it in peoples voices - a concern of going out? And I dont get it! Sadly 6 people have died in Qld from the virus, yet people are scared to go out? So far this year 170 people have died on Queensland roads, yet everyone is happy to keep jumping in their cars!! Still - I dont believe in giving up! We have to evolve and manage the cards we are dealt. With that in mind - I have produced my Sunshine State of Mind Show! Firstly, it is a show that is fun, positive and gives people a mental break from the bullshit we have been living everyday! It delivers a laugh, thoughtful moments and bucket loads of inspiration! Secondly, it brings together communities. Now more than ever before, we need to be looking out for each other. Thirdly, as a genuine one man show, it can work commercially with limited numbers. Its a show you sit and watch. Basically - it meets all social distancing requirements. I may hit an occasional bum note, but I think it is a pretty safe show to see! Finally, its the best show I have ever produced. I really like the songs. There are stories, videos, poems - I even get you to help me with a mini pub choir. Its a celebration of the Queensland Spirit, but it doesnt bash the other states. In fact it highlights how as a national family, we need to be there for each other, now more than ever before. Im really proud of this show. I am performing it at the Sandgate Town Hall on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 of October. I really hope you can come along. 12.01.2022 If you have ever enjoyed a concert. If you love listening to music. If you have ever wondered about the magic that seems to be behind it all, can I please encou...rage you read this article about a true Queensland and Aussie legend, Dee Dimmick. To me a real legend is someone who has the vision and courage to take on a dream, take on an enormous challenge, and against the odds create an outcome which makes peoples lives better. Dee and her husband Manny, through their company All Access, have made the Australian music industry a better and more professional place for a lot of people. Their skills and efforts added to Aussie road crews being recognised as among the best in the world! She is a legend! People who become roadies and most musicians, are kindred spirits. We do what we do because it is an overpowering part of who we are, and we thrive upon a brother in arms mentality. Despite what some people have been conditioned to assume - most roadies are highly skilful people, often artisans in their specific fields, who have an enormous tolerance for handling pressure, and who are in the best way possible, often beautifully slightly crazy! I only got the opportunity to develop my music craft thanks to help from guys like Brian and Dave, Alf and Rowdy, Gonzo, Sparky, Mick and Henrik, Des and Gary . and many more! A sobering point in Dees interview is the statistic that 1 in 5 Aussie roadies commit suicide. If you were wondering why the Powderfinger lads used their live stream to help Support Act - now you know! I dont know the musician suicide stat! There is not much anyone can do to help live shows while lock downs continue! (Another post for another time) However, next time you enjoy streaming your favourite music, please keep in mind that most of these streaming companies are adding to the misery. The big acts make money from streaming. Personally, I would be lucky if I could buy a cup of coffee from the money I make from streaming services in a year! So - can I please encourage you to hunt down and BUY/DOWNLOAD music from artists. 12.01.2022 CROWD FUNDER! Hi there. Before the Covid lockdowns began, I was preparing to launch my new Sunshine State of Mind Show. I had started a crowd funding campaign to help get the show around the state - and then all had to come to a screaming halt as we know! Anyway - I have actually re-written the show and it is now structured to be able to be performed in line with venue covid restrictions! It is fun, inspirational - I think it is just what some communities need at the moment. ...A chance to not cower in the corner, but come out swinging by celebrating our Queensland Spirit! However, after the last few months, I need help getting the staging production costs together. I am seeking business sponsors, but have also re-launched my crowd funding page.
