25.01.2022 Sturt Desert Pea I would like to announce the launch of a new series completed in Karijini in the Pilbara of WA. It is a series of Pilbara wildflowers indigenous to that region. Flowers which I grew up with and am very fond of. The first one to be showcased is the Sturt Desert Pea a great favourite. The series will not be on this Instagram account the series will be on my new Instagram account secret_language_of_flowers. This series is the beginning of a journey I undertoo...k at university. I researched the cultural meaning held within culture, language and flowers in an independent research unit. In the series I will unveil the hidden meaning/s both folklore and the bourgeois assigned the flowers. Come and join me on this beautiful adventure I hope to see you there. See more
25.01.2022 Oooooo look just what arrived in today’s mail! Sweet. I can’t wait to read them both. I love both artists so I have decided to delve deeper into what lies behind the work.
23.01.2022 I volunteered at Ellis house today. It is a wonderful heritage building housing exhibitions showcasing local artists. It is located very close to the beautiful Swan River. Make a day this weekend and go and enjoy such a lovely environment at your finger tips. Down near the river side food vendors are there to take good care of you, then cruise up to Ellist house and check out the current exhibition Imagined Reality.
22.01.2022 While I am recovering from surgery I want to share with you how 18 months ago I joined an artist business group with founder Sophie Mahir. The Perth Arts group meets regularly and I attended an event today. During the meeting I revealed how I keep the five year business plan created sits right below my easel it never leaves that spot. The reason for this is the detailed business plan is a map carefully researched and contrived to keep me from slipping into a blind spot convin...cing myself that I can’t do this or it is not working. I refer to the plan daily especially when I get a new idea, that idea is recorded immediately into the business plan. I would say to artists that this plan is working according to my forecast and when I create a painting I sell them very quickly. I rarely have paintings left in my studio, right now I would put my sale percentage at over 90%. Now it is not all about sales it is so much more this is written into my plan. I don’t apologise for having a business plan in the slightest as the way art was created and distributed as a commodity was very different from the way in which we need to operate today. This new way affords the artist more control both in the sale of their work but the relationship and care of the client which is of the highest importance. It is essential that we act in the most professional manner and conduct ourselves with integrity. If you are looking to create a business plan and run the business side of your art I highly recommend Sophiemahir.com it is due to Sophie that I believed I could give this a shot (after an abusive situation) and make it happen. Thank you Sophie Mahir it is because of you I took the first step and continue forward.
21.01.2022 I am absolute stoked, I received this just now! Thank you to the person who bought this painting. May it bring you years of happiness and joy.
20.01.2022 I sent Stephen on an errand to get munchies for my bar fridge in my studio. This is what he came home with! Oh dear.
18.01.2022 I took today to move back into my studio because I took over the kitchen and dining room. It was untenable. I also had the back room which was full of boxes, books and paints. I have the room to finish multiple paintings now with new canvases waiting. Now, I am exhausted!
17.01.2022 Secret pool of Gold She is finished! I am so happy with the outcome. Everything I wanted to achieve has come together to create this visual delight started up in the Pilbara WA. It needs to be seen in life as the effect can’t be photographed. I am very happy. What do you think? Success?
17.01.2022 The gold layers are starting to shape up nicely now! Happy with the progress. I am going to start the process with the second painting I started in the Pilbara today. Why not? I love painting two or three together it creates a lovely synergy.
16.01.2022 Local location Right, the layering with gold leaf has begun at last. Phew. Each layer must dry completely before I can go onto the next it takes many days to complete. Patience is a virtue with this technique. Well, for me personally anyway.
16.01.2022 In this painting the middle ground of the composition will need to be almost finished before I can layer detail in the trees and foreground. A different way of working for me, quite a challenge. Let’s see if I can achieve the result that is in mind?
16.01.2022 Painting tonight this has become a reality.
15.01.2022 I am a typical artist-night owl. I look like this if I must get up in the morning. Can any one else relate to this? Recovering from my major surgery I have an excuse.
14.01.2022 Look what arrived in my studio today while I was painting! Delivered a token of love with a gorgeous card written by my ever supportive hubby who has tried year after year to give me the confidence to do what I am doing here today...finally. Over 30 wonderful years of someone who believes in you he is willing to stand behind you cheering every minute every step of the way. I simply would not be doing this and have achieved as much as I have without that unwavering belief. Thank you for the platform on which you helped me launch my heart and art into the world arena Stephen. I love you more than you can ever know!
13.01.2022 I decided to go ahead and start the Gold leaf process today layering it in between coats of dots. It is a tedious process but very rewarding giving a pleasing result at the very end of the painting. I will continue today to get the base layer done then it will need to dry for 24 hours before I can carefully brush the excess gold off. Even though it is sore when I sit for too long as (I have six incisions and internal stitches) I just could not wait any longer to finish what I started while on location at Dales Gorge in August at Karijini.
13.01.2022 In my studio ready to paint. Two hours late for work but in the zone. I guess being late with your own business means you don’t get into trouble but I had better not make it a habit.
13.01.2022 I see it's art prize season council's and organisations offering prizes , happens every spring, you submit your work obey their long list of, pay a non refundable fee, get rejected and watch your entry fee won by another artist! Oh what fun so now you feel dejected depressed and inadequate and out of pocket, the prizes are funded by the rejected entries, they don't do this to plumbers or electricians even other arts like musicians, pitting artists against artists like gladiat...ors for lucre and a moment of glory at the whim of a couple of pompous non artist judges, so often l here the cry of artists as they fail to make the grade according to the selection committee , let the public decide l say , and at least refund the entry fees to the rejected artists ! By all means exhibit artist and treasure your local artisans , rejecting a great proportion of them and taking their money is not in my book supporting the arts . Just my personal opinion , solutions could be , abolish entry fees or at least make them refundable, they are a fee for no service, post all entries online and reject none . Don't have prize money only commendations art is not a sport or a lottery. Their lve got that off my chest. Wise words of Peter Browne I agree with this sentiment.
12.01.2022 I stayed up late last night painting as I was teaching today. It is coming along in a very interesting way. I will be up at the break of dawn with English Breakfast tea in hand, hot buttery toast with Vegemite and paintbrush. Paradise to paint all day long with no other distractions. I can slip into my dream world where I just love to be.
09.01.2022 While up in Tom Price at a cafe I was talking with a Pilbara photographer I know about my work, when I told her my influence was from Monet and the Impressionists through to the Neo Impressionists, her reply was We all thought your work was so Van Goghish. I was taken by surprise but I can see the influence and in light of the books I have collected over the years I have a few of Van Gogh. I told her I left painting behind for many years truly due to not having the confide...nce to show my work in public. I did a couple of painting units at uni but I changed my Major the Print media it was far easier for me to exhibit prints. This was due to the emotion and cathartic process that I underwent while creating paintings. It was simply too painful to show them to be honest I was actually embarrassed. Van Gogh lived a very poor and impoverished life full of raw emotions and pain but he was so rich in many ways. One person in his life never wavered to believe in him and support him with a small stipend and that was his brother. Apart from my husband Stephen the person in my life that has always believed in me when I never believed in myself is my sister Bree.
09.01.2022 An unusual November Day It is freeeeeezing down here in the studio. I am soooo cold it is almost unbearable. Stephen just brought me a nice hot lunch!
09.01.2022 Dales Gorge, Karijini Getting a move on with this one today. Putting in the detail while the other one with more gold leaf on it is drying. Rocking along today!
07.01.2022 A good nights work!
07.01.2022 I painted late into the night to start closing in the layers in the middle ground and background & edges of the canvas. The light was unusual when I started it on site so now my task is to try and get the tonal values as close as I can before any detail begins. The foreground is going to play a huge part in the success or failure of this painting. Keep watching and you will see why?
07.01.2022 This beautiful painting of Lake Leschenaultia has just SOLD to a gorgeous lady. So happy she is going to such a wonderful home.
06.01.2022 Preparing for teaching the beginners watercolour class tomorrow.

03.01.2022 Sometime I just have to paint sitting on the floor to get the effect I am after!
