25.01.2022 Congratulations Jenny!

24.01.2022 SUN STUD QUINELLA IN GROUP 2 The best day of racing in Australia and terrific to see the brilliant sprinters by MAGNUS and SQUAMOSA go 1-2 in the time honoured Group 2 TAB (Linlithgow Stakes) over 1200m at Flemington Racecourse and Victoria Racing Club. First run in 1868, MAGNUS 5YO Kemalpasa has now gone back to back in the race : winning last year with 53kgs but lumping 58.5kgs this time around. The Richard Jolly Racing trained galloper didn’t flinch though, leading through...out down the Flemington straight and taking his earnings to over $700,000 for connections. Kemalpasa had company up front though with SQUAMOSA’s Order of Command giving the winner plenty of competition and his second place finish takes earnings for the Danny O'Brien Racing trained flyer north of $750k, given that he too is a multiple stakes winner. Out of the Bianconi mare, Yarra Bank, Kemalpasa was bred by Jenny Watson in Tasmania, who is also responsible for Magnus and Squamosa’s barn-mate AND multiple Group 1 winner, PALENTINO, whose oldest runners are 2YOs. Again a top 10 Australian sire by winners, MAGNUS stands this season at $15,400, while SQUAMOSA is tremendous value at a fee of $4,400. Like all Sun Stud stallions, there is no payment until live foal. See more

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a big thank you to all breeders, agistment farms & suppliers for your support of Sun Stud in 2020... here's to a bigger and better 2021!

22.01.2022 FIORENTE SIRES 10 WINNERS IN 13 DAYS The winners keep rolling in for FIORENTE with LUNATIC FRINGE making it 10 winners in 13 days for the Champion Victorian Second Season Sire. Third-up from a spell and a rise in distance to 1850m has proven to be the ideal combination for the daughter of FIORENTE, as she came from last at the 800m marker to score an authoritative 1.75L win, with a gap of nearly 12L back to third!... The lightly raced Lindsay Park trained runner looks to have found her niche over a middle distance and it wouldn’t surprise to see her race right through her grades this preparation. Bred by Mojo Thoroughbreds, LUNATIC FRINGE is the 4th foal out of the Bianconi mare, Lunar Lights. FIORENTE’s winning run has seen his progeny score over a variety of distances: 1400m (3), 1600m-1850m (4) & 2000m+ (3). African Awesome (Winner at 1400m) Crypto Fiorelli (Winner at 1410m) Tippitywichit (Winner at 1430m) Power Scheme (Winner at 1600m) Rent a Rock (Winner at 1600m) Nobel Heights (Winner at 1700m) Lunatic Fringe (Winner at 1850m) Dente (Winner at 2000m) Floriano (Winner at 2121m) Hasta la Fiorente (Winner at 2500m)

19.01.2022 PALENTINO 1/2 BROTHER CAPTURES GROUP 3 JUNIPAL the younger half-brother to exciting first season sire PALENTINO has landed the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) at Sandown. The Maher & Eustace trained runner put 1.25 lengths on a small but quality field and now has 6 wins to his credit while banking over $500,000 in stakes.... Judging by the ease of today’s victory this won’t be the last pedigree page enhancement by the son of Reset out of Palatine Hill. #POWER #PRESENCE #PERFORMANCE #PALENTINO

19.01.2022 Gee, that was a win MAGNUS 4YO, Miss Albania, had to jump from the widest gate over the 1100m of the Iris O’Farrell Handicap at Caulfield Racecourse and burned up quite a bit of juice early. However, the mare powered to the lead and never gave it up, notching up her 3rd win from only 4 starts. Trained by Enver Jusufovic, Miss Albania was bred by Sun Stud and is out of the More Than Ready mare, Little Artist. This was her 2nd metropolitan win on the trot and is clearly a very promising galloper for the popular EJ. It’s been a great start to the year for Magnus who also produced a winner on New Year’s Day with Snappy Magnus, while his city winners in December included Sight Success, Pompeia, Liffeybeau, Harmony ’n’ Blessed and Influential Girl.

19.01.2022 WOW! SUN 2YO BOLTS IN BY 5.8L Sun Stud 2YO GULF OF SUEZ has absolutely walloped his opposition by 5.8L over 1050m at Morphettville on Saturday to remain unbeaten. It was a matter of "same bat-time, same bat-channel" as the FIGHTING SUN juvenile made it back-to-back wins in the opening event at South Australia’s premier track.... A homebred from Sun Stud’s Kerrie based, GULF OF SUEZ is the first foal out of the Fastnet Rock mare Pan Jinlian and is trained by the Maher & Eustace partnership. FIGHTING SUN sadly succumbed to a colic attack earlier this year and is much missed by all staff it is great to see his legacy live on via his progeny.

18.01.2022 Cracking NATIONAL DEFENSE filly out of the Exceed And Excel mare Sabie. Sabie was a stakes winning two-year-old herself and this filly looks a real early runner! Group 1 winning Champion juvenile NATIONAL DEFENSE is the highest rated 2YO by Invincible Spirit at stud in Victoria.

18.01.2022 POWER SCHEME BEATEN A NOSE IN GROUP 3 Class FIORENTE gelding POWER SCHEME has been denied a nose in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Sandown. The Lindsay Park galloper was in front before and after the post, but not where it counted. A winner of his last two starts at Caulfield (1700m) and Flemington (1600m), POWER SCHEME has missed out on the hat-trick by the barest of margins. ... A stakes winner at 2, Group placed at 3 and now Group placed at 4, this son of FIORENTE has been a high-level consistent performer in each season he has contested, and his day will come for another stakes success.

17.01.2022 DEVONPORT CUP NEXT FOR GEE GEE GEE GEE FIORENTE may have raced himself into early favouritism for next month’s Ladbrokes Devonport Cup after scoring an impressive win in the $50,000 Sheffield Cup (1650m) in Devonport on Sunday. The Team Wells-trained FIORENTE gelding won the Golden Mile leading up to Sunday’s assignment but despite that form he was an alarming drifter in the betting, easing from an opening price of $4.80 to start at $11.... We have set this horse for the Devonport Cup and we weren’t going to run him in this race after winning the Golden Mile, but it was too big a break, said Trent Wells. He’s done it easily in the end, so now he goes to the Devonport Cup with a lot of confidence. The gelding was ridden by former star West Australian apprentice Randy Tan who has become a regular rider in Tasmania in recent times. Randy (Tan) rode him a treat to win the Golden Mile and he’s done the job for us again today, so I would expect we will stay with him for the big race. The 2021 Ladbrokes Devonport Cup will be run on 6 January.

16.01.2022 THIS MAGNUS IS HIGHCLASS Good on you Harry! Racing in Wednesday’s $100,000 Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Handicap over 1400m on the Bendigo Cup program, MAGNUS 6YO, Highclass Harry, was just that with a bold front running display. Leading pretty much from the get-go, they couldn’t catch the Josh Julius galloper, who is trained on track and now won 5 of 16 start with 5 further seconds. Indeed, this time in, Highclass Harry has won or finished runnerup in his last 7 outings, i...ncluding a lip second at Sandown, three starts back. Bred by Leo & Maureen Dwyer from their Desert Sun mare, Fast Ruby, Highclass Harry is a MAGNUS full brother to their multiple winner, Just Folk. A top 10 Australian sire by winners, MAGNUS stands at a fee of just $15,400 inc. GST no payment until live foal. See more

15.01.2022 With 3 stakes winners and nearly $3m in progeny earnings for 2020/21 - BEL ESPRIT is keeping with some pretty illustrious company as an emerging broodmare sire this season. **Nick alert** MAGNUS over BEL ESPRIT mares is represented by 22 runners for 17 winners (78%) and 5 stakes performers (23%)!

15.01.2022 MAGNUS REIGNS WITH ANOTHER DOUBLE The toughest thing about the MAGNUS deuce at Sandown Racecourse on Wednesday is deciding which of the winners King Magnus or Just Folk was the pick of the pair? We’re going with Josh Julius’s flashy 4YO chestnut, Just Folk, but it’s only a lip between them. Racing in the Thoroughbred Club Handicap over 1500m, Just Folk was forced to race wide without cover, but really knuckled down over the final stages to win convincingly : this has bee...n a gritty win he’s a good horse. Bred by Leo and Maureen Dwyer and out of their Desert Sun mare, Fast Ruby, Josh Julius is also a part owner of Just Folk who has now won 3 from 7. Just Folk is a full brother to Highclass Harry who has won 5 for Josh, including at win at Bendigo last month on Bendigo Cup day. As for King Magnus well, Robbie Griffiths can certainly find a MAGNUS winner! With Wednesday’s score at Sandown, King Magnus has notched up 3 from 6 (with a 3rd) and won 2 in a row with the Tile Importer Handicap (1300m) scamper. Sitting just off the leaders, King Magnus flew the coop once he saw daylight and he clearly has a promising future. Bred by John Pratt, King Magnus is out of the Carnegie mare, Influential Miss, who also produced the 4-time MAGNUS winner, Influential Girl. As for Robbie, he’s had 21 runners by MAGNUS for 18 winners! MAGNUS stands this season at Sun Stud at a fee of $15,400 no payment until live foal and is currently ranked 7th on the national premership by winners. See more

15.01.2022 MICK READY FOR VICTORY AGAIN Leading trainer Mick Price Racing always had a big opinion of Sun Stud stallion, READY FOR VICTORY, particularly after the flashy More Than Ready colt won a Listed race at Flemington on debut as a 2YO for him - even more so when Ready For Victory produced a blinder (albeit wayward) for fourth in the Golden Slipper at only his second start. So, it’s not surprising that Mick - now in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr - ‘got in the queue’ when Read...y For Victory produced some runners of his own. It paid of in spades at Benalla Racing Club on Sunday when 3YO, Get In The Queue, showed that he is well above average with a commanding victory in the Benalla Plate over 1606m. Sitting just off the leader for most of the journey, Get In The Queue pounced just before turning for home and ran away to score comfortably: much to the delight of those who backed the favourite. Get In The Queue is raced by Roll The Dice Racing and a very happy band of owners! Hailing from the Danzero mare, Miss Matty, Get In The Queue’s two previous outings produced a length second at Kilmore in November before a third at Moonee Valley in December. Indeed, it was a good final month of the calendar year for READY FOR VICTORY who was also represented by winners Ultimate Victory, L’il Piper and Agami Karma, a good fourth at Caulfield on Saturday. 14.01.2022 TRANS TASMAN DEUCE FOR FIORENTE True grit! A memorable double on Saturday on both sides of the pond for FIORENTE with Ritratto winning his 2nd in town on the trot, courtesy of a bold front-running display in the Crawford Legal Handicap over 1600m at Morphettville Racecourse, while Teen Titan also hung on like granny’s tooth in the Celebrating Melody Belle Handicap over 2000m at Matamata Racing Club in New Zealand. Trained by Mick Huxtable, Ritratto has now won 5 of 12 sta...rts (only once out of the money) and the 4YO just keeps getting better with age. Bred and raced by Michael Daly, Ritratto is out of the Excellent Art mare, Family Portrait and, according to his trainer, will attempting to make it 3 in a row at Morphettville in the next couple of weeks. Teen Titan, meanwhile, has won or placed in 5 of 6 outings this time in and, he too, is clearly producing the goods for trainer Rob Autridge. Bred by Sun Stud, Teen Titan is from the Volponi mare, Clearly Foxy. A Champion Victorian Second Season Sire, FIORENTE stands this season at Sun Stud at a fee of $17,600 no payment until live foal. 12.01.2022 SUN STUD TAKES COMMAND Good colours those! Power packed performance on Wednesday from the Sun Stud owned, Fortress Command, in the Vale Mick Hood Handicap over 1400m at Warwick Farm. Sitting just off the pace throughout, Fortress Command stalked the odds on favourite, Petronius for most of the race before surging clear at the business end: scoring with plenty in hand. It’s a terrific AND promising return to racing for the Gerald Ryan trained 4YO who has raced in elite company... throughout his career. After winning on debut as a 2YO, Fortress Command then won his next race at Newcastle in such convincing fashion that Gerald then ran the Sebring galloper in the Group 3 Baillieu Stakes at Randwick, finishing third and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes where he fought on strongly for fourth. Campaigned as an autumn 3YO, Fortress Command had just the four outings but each was at Group level, including the Group 1 Randwick Guineas. Clearly he has come back an even stronger contender and Fortress Command appears to have a promising spring campaign ahead. See more

11.01.2022 SUN’S DEVONPORT TRIPLE Red letter day at Devonport Racing Club at Ladbrokes All Weather Spreyton for Sun Stud stallions with MAGNUS (Pompeia), FIORENTE (Gee Gee Fiorente) and the late FIGHTING SUN (Entrapped) all producing winners on the 8 race program. MAGNUS got the ball rolling when Pompeia - bred by Rushton Park Thoroughbreds and hailing from the Ashkalani mare, Ashtaroth - capturing the Dr The Doc Leslie Sender Maiden over 1009m, while Entrapped won her 2nd start for bre...eders Grenville Stud. However, it was the Geards’ Gee Gee Fiorente that again stole the show with his 2nd win in a row over the 1650m at Devonport and he now has 10 wins from 26 outings. Stepping out in the Barry Diprose Transport Sheffield Cup 2020, Gee Gee Fiorente has a big task ahead from the turn but fought on superbly for another deserved victory. Indeed, after resuming with a 5th at Hobart in July, Gee Gee Fiorente - from the Encosta de Lago mare, Tolago, hasn’t been out of the winners’ circle in his last 5 outings. See more

10.01.2022 Leading Victorian based sire by winners, MAGNUS has notched up winner #50 for the 2020/21 season placing him 7th overall on the national premiership. After producing 10 stakes horses last season Group 1 Futurity winner, Streets of Avalon among them MAGNUS hasn’t missed a beat since August. Following on from his metropolitan treble last Monday, MAGNUS has sired 10 winners in 7 days: including the flying chestnut, Kemalpasa, who won his 4th black type victory in Saturday’...s Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes at Sandown. Kemalpasa has now won 11 races and $830,750 in stakes and he is just one of well over 100 MAGNUS runners who have captured in excess of $100k! In fact, Kemalpasa is looming ever closer to becoming the 8th ‘millionaire’ for MAGNUS, who also has 4 Group 1 winners, 45 stakes horses, 68% winners to runners, and over $47 million in progeny earnings.

08.01.2022 2020 INGLIS READY 2 RACE SALE TOMORROW Two PALENTINO colts will go under the hammer at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale on Tuesday October 20 at the Riverside complex, Warwick Farm. Running 10.73 seconds at Taupo and selling as LOT 33 out of the Kiltannon Stables draft, is the powerfully built juvenile out of Lady Mary.... The gelding is the third foal out of a stakes placed mare and was bred by Mario and Jenny Cesnik. He was a nice horse as a yearling and I’m glad he has breezed up well for the vendors. We keep hearing good things about the Palentino stock, said Mario Cesnik. The PALENTINO colt out of MARIE SOLEIL has also impressed with a slick time of 10.94 seconds at the Seymour track (footage below). "He’s a strong colt with a good action he’s a machine this horse, said Dean Grass of Gippsland Bloodstock, who will offer the bay as LOT 46. The 2YO hails from the first-crop of dual Group 1 winner PALENTINO and is out of a Stakes Winning mare that has had 4 to race for 3 winners. #POWER #PRESENCE #PERFORMANCE #PALENTINO

07.01.2022 DEJA VU ANYONE? Sun Stud roster mates MAGNUS and SQUAMOSA have produced another Group race quinella via KEMALPASA & ORDER OF COMMAND in today’s Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown. KEMALPASA made it back-to-back Group victories over ORDER OF COMMAND after the pair finished in the same order in the Group 2 TAB Stakes (1200m) on day one of the Flemington carnival.... A 5YO son of MAGNUS, the Richard & Chantelle Jolly trained KEMALPASA has built an outstanding record 28-11:6:3 $830,750, while SQUAMOSA galloper ORDER OF COMMAND is no slouch either, with the Danny O’Brien galloper responsible for these impressive figures 27-8:7:3 $732,575. KEMALPASA was a $140,000 purchase at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and was bred by the Queen of Tassie in Jenny Watson. ORDER OF COMMAND is a homebred for owners Mr WH Johnson, Mr S Paino, Mr J Swinnerton & Mr G Peer. Congratulations to all connections!

06.01.2022 MAGNUS has jumped out of the blocks by registering 35 winners for the 2020/21 season, the most of any Victorian based stallion and the 7th best tally Australia wide. While FIORENTE & BEL ESPRIT have been productive early with 16 winners apiece... what a great start to the new season for the Sun Stud roster!

06.01.2022 EARLY ROSTER DOUBLE FOR SUN STUD Yes Sir, that’s the way to do it. Sun Stud stallions, MAGNUS and SQUAMOSA have gotten off to a flying start at Wodonga today with the John & Chris Ledger Racing trained, Yes Sir, capturing the opener over 1200m, while Mick Price Racing & Michael Kent Jnr’s Raysim made it a running double over 1100m. They were promising performances both: a 3YO colt by MAGNUS, Yes Sir was having just his 2nd start at Wodonga, after running a solid 2nd on debut ...a fortnight ago, while Raysim a 4YO by SQUAMOSA was stepping out for just the 3rd time, but appears to be above average given the ease of his win (see below). Bred and part-owned by Tony Seychell and hailing from the Desert King mare, Sahara Sands, Yes Sir is among 38 individual winners for MAGNUS this season, who currently sits in the top 10 Australian sires by winners. At a fee of $15,400 inc. GST with no payment until live foal, MAGNUS is certainly the best value among his premiership contemporaries. Bred by Fulmen Park and the last foal of Last Tycoon mare, Last Goodbye, Raysim likewise continues the run of SQUAMOSA, whose winners in the past 10 days include Thunberg, Thermosa and Maiden Grace, while multiple Group winner Kiwi Ida was Group placed in New Zealand last Saturday. For a stallion that keeps churning out the winners, SQUAMOSA represents outstanding value at $4,400 inc. GST with no payment until live foal. See more

05.01.2022 PALENTINO JUMPOUT WINNER The Robbie Griffiths trained PALENTINO filly GOSSITINO has scored a stylish jump out victory over 800m at Cranbourne this morning. The 2YO filly jumped on terms and then raced in second position outside the leader. She extended nicely in the final 50m to gain the upper hand and post a comfortable one length victory. ... She's a talented and tough filly. We will nom for the Inglis Banner and just see how she pulls up. She has always shown us ability at home in her work and she went well at her first look at a jump out this morning, said Griffiths. Bred by Helen Brindle & Ray Campling, GOSSITINO is the fourth foal out of the unraced One Cool Cat mare, Leica Gossip. She hails from the family of Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner Leica Smile. PALENTINO was a dual Group 1 winner on the track - emulating the legendary Zabeel by winning the Australian Guineas and Makybe Diva Stakes double. #POWER #PRESENCE #PERFORMANCE #PALENTINO

05.01.2022 THE FIORENTE JUGGERNAUT CONTINUES UNABATED Make that 12 winners in 14 days! RITRATTO posted an easy front running 3.3L win over 1550m at Morphettville on Saturday to continue the momentum for Champion Victorian Second Season Sire FIORENTE.... A winner of 6 races from just 14 starts, RITRATTO is the second foal out of the Excellent Art mare Family Portrait and was bred by South Australian, Michael Daly, who remains in the ownership of the progressive galloper. FIORENTE covered 141 mares in 2019 and is currently working his way through a quality book of mares for the 2020 breeding season.

04.01.2022 A couple of slick breeze-ups by PALENTINO colts at the Magic Millions 2020 Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale Seymour heats on Friday October 9. To be offered by Moffatt Breaking & Pre Training as Lot 204, the chestnut colt out of LISA IN GREEN - herself a half-sister to 2YO stakes winner Moshki - showed brilliant acceleration to record a 10.78sec gallop. While Lot 198, a bay colt from the JCS Thoroughbreds draft, dashed up in an impressive 10.87sec - he is out of LATINA BEL...LE, an Encosta de Lago half-sister to last seasons Group 3 winning 2YO Mildred. The auction will take place on November 10 at the Magic Millions Sales Complex in Bundall on the Gold Coast. #POWER #PRESENCE #PERFORMANCE #PALENTINO

02.01.2022 FIORENTE mare WELL WELL WELL bolts in by 4.5L over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast for owner/breeder Bill Sexton. Trained by Barry Baldwin & ridden by Robbie Fradd. FIORENTE now has 11 winners in 13 days!

02.01.2022 TRIAL WIN FOR STAKES WINNER Nice 950m trial win for last start FIORENTE stakes winner COUSIN IVAN on Tuesday. Last seen on July 4 winning the Listed Aquanita Stakes (2000m), the Holly Taylor trained son of FIORENTE looks set for an excellent preparation judging by his trial victory over the sprint trip at Lark Hill.... Watch him flash home down the outside (red sleeves, white silks & black hat) from second last to record a narrow win. With 2 wins from just 4 career starts, the future looks very bright for this untapped gelding. COUSIN IVAN is out of the Blackfriars mare, Chong Nonsi and is a homebred for owner Grant Gibbs. With 5 stakes winners and over $7m in progeny earnings from his first two crops alone, FIORENTE has proven himself to be a real asset to the Victorian breeding industry.

01.01.2022 Written by TDN's Bren O'Brien The Group 1 heroics of Palentino took Jenny Watson to new heights as a thoroughbred breeder, but she never dared dream that she might be back there again just four years later. Palentino's half-brother Junipal (Reset), who is trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, shapes as one of the top chances for Saturday's G1 Toorak H. at Caulfield and Watson, who runs Macleay Thoroughbred Stud in Tasmania's Meander Valley, can hardly believe that she ...Continue reading

01.01.2022 MORE TO POWER TO FIORENTE The Caulfield Cup meeting got off to a flyer with a power packed display from FIORENTE 4YO, Power Scheme, in the Zircodata Handicap over 1700m. Just 2nd up from a spell (resuming with a 3rd over 1400m at Caulfield last month), the Lindsay Park Racing trained, Power Scheme is clearly poised for a successful month or so ahead, based on the quality of Saturday’s performance. Bred and raced by Sun Stud, Power Scheme was a stakes winner in Sydney as a 2YO... before backing it up a 3 with a quality 3rd in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes at Randwick in April. Lindsay Park’s Ben Hayes clearly believes Power Scheme has matured even further into a quality galloper: the horse was fantastic and it was really good to see him win I think he is in for a really nice prep. Power Scheme is out of the Encosta de Lago mare, Rosa Perlato, who is also the dam of FIORENTE’s Group 2 winner, Hawkshot, while the mare produced a full sister to Power Scheme in August. Currently working his way through another quality book this spring, FIORENTE had a city double last Saturday with Ritratto in Adelaide and Teen Titan in NZ. See more
