09.01.2022 Last post we stated that the cost of producing electricity was around 4c/kwh. In Qld in 2008/2009 the average price was 3.6c/kwh. As Australia has a national electricity grid then power produced in Qld can be sold to SA and vice versa. The cost of producing power in other states is usually a little higher than that in Qld. So where is all this heading? Even though the cost of producing power is quite low it will start to head upwards very soon. The new carbon tax will add another 1.6c/kwh for cleaner coal fired power stations. For the dirtier ones it will be higher. Again as stated in the last post the major cost component of electricity is not in production it is in the distribution. In the next post we will explain why.
06.01.2022 So electricity is rising in price but why is this so? Usuaaly when we hear that the cost of something is going up we think the cost of manufacture or production has increased or it is just normal CPI increases. The cost of electricity has risen over 60% in 5 years so it is not CPI increases. The other curious thing is that the cost of production has not risen much at all. The cost to produce one unit of electricity is on average just under 4c. The price that we pay in Qld is 22c for domestic users and 25c for commercial users. The dramatic increase in cost of electricity has to do with the dramatic increase in the cost of distribution i.e. the poles, transformers and wires. Do you see an end in sight to the rising cost of electricity?
04.01.2022 Why waste money on powering a big oversized air conditioning system when you probably don't need to?... First you should check around the area you are trying to keep cool; find any open airways that could be letting the cool air flow away from the area. Even doors that sit higher off the ground and leave an inch or two gap can let away plenty of cool air. Next you should try using curtains and blinds where necessary for windows that are affected by sunlight. By covering these... windows, a layer of air sits between the window and the cold air inside, blocking the sunlight from heating the air inside so quickly and warming up the room. Now if you have done the above and the room seems to be a bit cooler, why not turn up the A/C a degree or two. This is only some quick tips, but watch how much electricity is saved on your next power bill... Stay tuned for more power saving tips!
03.01.2022 Which period of the year is the best for inviting family and friends to the Wide bay region to enjoy our beautiful blue skies? It is the second half of the year - or more specifically from August onwards. See image below for some data for 2013.
03.01.2022 It is time to start sharing some insights from what prompted me to start this business and what we have learnt over the past 4 years. As a business we have been operating for just over 18 months but the start of our business can really be traced back to August 2007. It was at this time that I 1st started to look into the possibility of Solar Energy as a business. In a way it seemed a long time ago, but time has marched on quickly since then. At that time the price of elec...tricity was 15.4c kw/h now it is 22.59c/kwh. The figures below tell a not so good story $0.13497 July 2005 $0.13882 July 2006 a 2.85% increase $0.15455 July 2007 an 11.33% increase $0.16291 July 2008 a 5.41% increase $0.18843 July 2009 a 15.67% increase $0.21351 July 2010 a 13.31% increase $0.22759 July 2011 a 6.59% increase In the last past 5 years this has been an accumulative increase of 63.95%. From July 2012 the price of electricity will include a new Carbon tax. Let me know what you think the price of electricity will be then.
