14.01.2022 RETURN AIR GRILLE & FILTER Cleaning your return air grille and/or filter (if fitted with one), is a task that is commonly regarded as unnecessary or of low priority. It is in fact, one of the key steps to keeping an efficient system and a healthy environment.... Any ducted system - being ducted heating or ducted refrigerated, circulates through the whole house starting in the indoor unit, blowing out through the vents, feeding through the return air grille before returning to the indoor unit where the cycle starts again. That’s why it is vital to keep a clean grille and filter (if fitted with one) because the air feeds through here and recycles through your home. If you don’t clean your grille and/or filter, the dust and lint will build up and consequently restrict the air flow back to the fan. If the air flow is restricted, the system has to work harder by using more power to try and suck the air through. This will inadvertently increase your power bill. If the dust and lint is blown past the filter it can potentially damage the fan and/or other components of your system. This could also cause dust and lint to circulate through your home creating polluted air which could create health issues. Cleaning of your grille and/or filter should be done every 3-4 weeks when the unit is being used regularly. Keeping a clean grille and/or filter means everyone is happy and healthy, with lower power bills and clean air to breathe. Supercool cleans the grille/filters as part of a service, which means that’s one less time per year that you won’t have to do it. :) Follow the easy guide below to cleaning your grille/filter or call us on 03 7034 0220 to arrange for one of our technicians to complete a service. Cleaning your return air grille/filter: 1. Undo the hinged Return Air Grill frame fixing. The fixing is usually a thumb screw or a sliding clip. 2. If you have a filter, slide out the filter from the grille. 3. Vacuum the lint off the filter and/or the grille if you just have a grille. 4. Slide the filter back into the hinged grill, swing the grill back into the recess and screw up the fixing screw or slide back the clip. You're Done!

13.01.2022 WINTER CHECKLIST Winter has arrived and we have put together a checklist to make sure your home is winter ready. Check for leaks or drafts... Sealing air or even water leaks around your home is a simple task which will prevent cold spots, and improve energy efficiency by stopping heat from escaping. Cover Hard-Floors If the floors in your home are tiles, hardwood or concrete, try adding a rug for added warmth. Hard floors are not only cold to walk on but they also don't hold in any heat. Cover Your Windows In winter, up to 40% of heat in your home escapes through uncovered windows. Keep your windows covered to insulate your home and prevent heat loss. Service your heating system Over time, your return air grille gets dirty & gas pressures need adjusted to ensure your heating system is working efficiently & effectively. All the above points, will help you save money on your bills as unsealed homes and heating systems not working correctly are all contributing factors to expensive heat loss. Needing a check or service on your heating system - we are here to assist. www.supercoolhc.com or 7034 0220

13.01.2022 SUMMER CHECKLIST - getting your home ready for Summer When the days start getting longer and the sun seems to have more bite than usual, it’s a sure sign that summer is on its way. We've put a list of things together to get your home 'summer-ready'... Check Your Cooling System Your air conditioner - whether it be split systems, evaporative cooling or refrigerated - has been sitting idle throughout the colder months. During this time dust and debris, and its running parts may need a pre-season tune-up and service. Just like we need to get ready for the beach, our air conditioner needs to get ready for summer too! Gas Up The Grill Before you fire it up for your first barbecue of the season, take some time to give it a thorough cleaning. Use a hard bristle brush to scrub buildup off your grates and wipe away any grease residue that may be left over from last season. Stock up on propane or charcoal so you’ll be ready to entertain. Get Mulching & Gardening Adding a layer of mulch can serve multiple purposes. Not only does it provide an adequate system for soaking up moisture and allowing your plants to grow and thrive, but it also keeps certain pests and weeds from getting to your plants and causing damage. Get the garden ready by trimming back the greenery and the lawn. Invite Summer Indoors Interiors can be made summery with sun-kissed windows that have sparkling-clean glass and fresh, breezy window treatments. Thoroughly wash your windows inside and out. Now you're ready for summer! If you're needing a service or looking to upgrade/change your cooling system - we are here to assist (all still full PPE & Covid Safe plan - details on our website), DM our page or give us a call on 7034 0220. #summerready #cooling #evaporativecooling #splitsystems #refrigerated #hvac #addonrefrigerated

11.01.2022 With so many cooling options available, which one suits you best?! Each week, we will provide information about the various cooling systems; how they work, cost effectiveness etc. This week is about: DUCTED REFRIGERATED SYSTEM... WHAT IS DUCTED REFRIGERATED? Ducted Refrigerated Air Conditioning provides refrigerated heating and cooling throughout your home all year-round. In hot weather, a refrigerated system draws warm internal air over an inside coil, transferring heat from the air into the refrigerant. The cool air then passes through the ducts to the relevant zones in your home, while the heat is transferred to the outside air through an external coil. In cool weather this process is reversed, drawing heat from the outside air and transferring it to the inside of your home. Refrigerated systems recirculate the air, reduce humidity levels and provide clean air through a filtered return air grille. BENEFITS OF DUCTED REFRIGERATED ONE complete system for heating & cooling Ducting distributes conditioned air throughout your home Return air grille with filter to remove household dust For a FREE quote or to arrange a service, (with full PPE and COVID safe plan - https://supercoolhc.com/covid-19-information/), DM our page or give us a call on 7034 0220. #heatingandcooling #cooling #splitsystem #evaporativecooling #ductedrefrigeration

10.01.2022 From plumbing , to electrical to landscaping .... There are ALWAYS things to do around the home right?! But have you checked that the 'tradies' you are inviting into your home to complete these works are not only qualified and experienced, but also carry the correct licencing?... The are many ways to check you don't have a 'dodgy' tradie, but for the plumbing industry, they need to be Licenced &/or Registered with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA). The picture attached shows the various classes of licensing & registration your plumber has. Supercool Heating, Cooling & Plumbing are 'mechanical plumbers', specialising in the heating & cooling industry. Along with ensuring that they are qualified and certified to complete the required jobs, other things to check so you know you are in good, capable, trusted hands are; reviews and recommendations, ask for formal written quotes & have insurance for public liability. 08.01.2022 "Bigger is not always better" There is a misconception that having a bigger heater or reverse cycle system is ALWAYS better. This is not the case when it comes to heating & cooling your home and there are a number of factors to consider when choosing the right system.... In the average home, around 40% of the annual household energy cost comes from heating. By choosing an efficient system that suits your lifestyle and is the right size for your home, can: save you money reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. The wrong sized system won’t heat your home efficiently and will cost you more money. If you are ready to upgrade your existing system or looking to install a new one, a FREE quote and inspection is best by our qualified mechanical technicians to ensure the right size system for your home. Give us a call on 7034 0220, PM our page OR head to our website to book an online enquiry form.

08.01.2022 With so many cooling options available, which one suits you best?! This is the last of the series where we provide information about the various cooling systems; how they work, cost effectiveness etc. This week is about: ADD-ON REFRIGERATED COOLING... WHAT IS ADD-ON REFRIGERATED COOLING? As the name suggests, an Add-on cooling system utilises an existing 'compatible' ducted gas heating unit, duct-work and grilles to provide refrigerated cooling. The system consists of an indoor unit, an outdoor unit and one controller for heating and cooling. Compatibility to existing gas ducted heater is imperative and is dependent on gas ducted heating unit, duct-work and design and airflow requirements. This would require a specialised technician such as us, to confirm and check. BENEFITS OF ADD-ON REFRIGERATED COOLING One Duct System The add-on cooling system is designed to use the same duct and grilles system as the heater which saves a lot of money and time installing the system Heating and cooling will be distributed through the same vents. Even though they’re two individual units, they’re operated from the same central remote For a FREE quote or to arrange a service, (with full PPE and COVID safe plan - https://supercoolhc.com/covid-19-information/), DM our page or give us a call on 7034 0220. #heatingandcooling #cooling #splitsystem #evaporativecooling #ductedrefrigeration #addonrefrigerated

06.01.2022 *Stage 4 Restrictions* Further clarification and announcements will continue throughout the week, but at this stage from the information that has been provided by the Victorian Government; we are deemed as an 'essential & open' service for heating repairs, maintenance & installations. The attached image highlights the key areas which relate to us directly from the Victoria Government's 'Stage-4-Industries-Distribution document' and must be adhered to.... This purely relates to 'Gas/Electrical Heating' ONLY seeing as we are in the Winter months and is required for emergency and safety. Any OTHER requirements such as Cooling enquiries, installations, servicing etc OR of the cosmetic nature will need to be placed on hold until the current restrictions are lifted/changed. Our team has been, and will continue to follow, the current guidelines with wearing masks, hand sanitising and maintaining 1.5-2.0 metre distancing when attending premises. If there is someone unwell in your household; if they've been in close contact with a positive COVID case OR have tested positive to COVID and are in isolation; then only book or reschedule your appointment for a later date to ensure the safety of everyone - your family and our staff members. 03.01.2022 *DUCTED HEATER SERVICING* WINTER has definitely arrived! Bbbbrrrrrr If you haven't had your ducted heater or wall furnace serviced in the last 2 years, now is the perfect time! ... Our heating services are extremely thorough and cover all aspects of your heating system so you can rest assured it is working efficiently (saving you $$) and safely. What is completed during a ducted heater service? Carbon Monoxide test to ensure there are NO 'odourless & potentially harmful' gases leaking through your system and into your home Gas Pressures are checked to ensure that the gas burners are burning at the correct heat rate (IF gas pressure is too LOW, the house takes too long to warm up. IF gas pressure is too HIGH, the heater consumes excessive gas). Either way, this impacts your running costs and effectively your bills. Return air grille/filter is checked and cleaned so that it produces more airflow, prevents the heater over-heating and reduces unnecessary strain on the fan motor. Overall check conducted of the complete system including the heater, the duct-work and the airflow's making sure the system is operating effectively. We use the best quality carbon monoxide tester (Testo 310) for detection of dangerous gases which reads the Carbon Monoxide levels in PPM (parts per million). If you wish to enquire or book in a service, give us a call on 7034 0220, book an online enquiry via our website at www.supercoolhc.com or PM our Facebook page.

02.01.2022 HEATING VENTS - the dangers of closing them. There is a huge misconception that by closing heating vents, it will save you money and be more energy efficient. It seems like a good idea: just close the vents in unused rooms and only control the air temperature in rooms that you use. ... In reality, your unit will run less efficiently and could eventually break down and/or cause further issues if you are leaving vents closed in rooms you don’t use. Why is Closing Vents a Bad Idea? The way air flows through your house is carefully designed. There’s a certain amount of pressure that is involved with circulating air through your home. If this pressure is off balance, you’re sure to run into problems. Put simply, your heating system is designed so that the amount of air being pulled into your system matches the volume of air being blown out of the vents. When this is happening, your unit is working in harmony. When you close a vent, this increases the amount of pressure in your air ducts. If that pressure gets too high, you can cause small leaks in the duct-work, force duct-work to become loose or fall off and also put unnecessary pressure on your heating unit to work 'harder'. Of course, over time, this could cause more serious problems which could destroy other components of your heating system, leading to costly repairs. So not only is closing a vent counterproductive in terms of lowering energy usage, it will also create larger and more expensive repairs over time. If you have issues with your heating system not producing enough even airflow or are concerned with gas pressures, please arrange for our technical experts to complete a full inspection for you. PM our Facebook page, head to our website at www.supercoolhc.com or call us on 70340220.

02.01.2022 Heating Ducts: Out of Sight, Out of Mind. Do you feel parts of your home are colder than others? Or that there is not enough airflow or heat in some rooms? This could be for a number of reasons.... 1. It could be that ducts in the ceiling have come loose or fallen off the ceiling vents/outlets. These need to be re-taped back on and tested. 2. Poor design of duct-work means there is no even air-flow across each of the rooms. If this is not done right, your heater will never work effectively. This is what 'mechanical plumbers' are trained to do and have certification in duct work design & layout to achieve the best result. If you are concerned with uneven air flow or not getting enough heat in parts of you home, we can assist. Give us a call on 7034 0220, or reach out via PM on our Facebook page.
