22.01.2022 *turn sound on* The upright bass is a cruel master. Those strings are big, and sit way way off the fingerboard. Musical instrument trepidation -seemed like a good premise for a visual and sound design mood exercise. And for those who have seen my recent 'Interstellar' posts won't be surprised at all by the layering of pipe organ in the music. (the movie is worth watching for the music and sound design alone. Not usially a fan of the pipe organ but it was used in such a brilliant way in the movie that I had to go there).
22.01.2022 Spending some time testing new gear and lenses 20m from my office. Oddly, I detected zero interest from the insects and birds about the S.A lockdown, the U.S election result, apple’s killer new M1 equipped hardware or what supplies are needed for the upcoming Xmas frenzy. Business as usual. Featuring tea tree, bottlebrush, love in A mist, kangaroo paw amongst others. Oh, and canon 100mm L macro, and 75mm bowl attachment for slider/dolly, in case you’re interested.
17.01.2022 I’m sure I do the same ‘doesn’t this look like something from the movie ‘alien’ ‘ post every year. Because, well, a sunflower about to burst reminds me of exactly that. 16.01.2022 A roadmap, an arterial system or simply the underside of red mustard. Many vegetables make, in my opinion, brilliant ornamental plants because they look so amazing. Case in point. Very little post processing by the way - the greens,reds, pinks were all there to begin with. I’ll confess I struggled to find its measure when in the kitchen for many years (munch on it raw and your watering eyes and the hole blasted in the top of your head were a clallenge), but braising removes all of the aggression. #kiewavalley #gardenfilmmaker #organicgardening
15.01.2022 As a young surfer on Sydney’s northern Beaches, the signal each year that the cold dark winter waves were yielding to the warmer spring weather was the scent of jasmine. Everywhere. To this day it’s smell takes me right back to Dee Why, Long reef, fairy bower, harbord..... Down here, with our freezing winters and dry hot summers it doesn’t thrive to the same extent, and many folks aren’t fans, but when I was able to get a few cuttings to take I was stoked. Now I can have a little piece of sand and salt water right by my front door. [I could have just said ‘jasmine cutting’ but without the back story the same image wouldn’t mean so much! Not that it’s evident from the pic, but this is self seeded, so it’s done all@of the work itself. And best of all, those quirky flowers will bear marvellous broad beans. 07.01.2022 A slightly hilarious post - forgiveness assumed! Softest ‘launch’ ever. I will be posting more on this shortly, but have been so busy with quotes, proposals and filming.... This will suffice for now. The single from the Milawa Bread ‘bring it home’ video is up, in all the usual places! The story behind this is super cool, with the lyrics coming mostly from Adam’s own descriptions. 06.01.2022 Discovered a ‘new’ bottlebrush at our place. Well totally not new, original owners planted it 15-20years ago, but having removed some fences and opening up areas at our place means it’s a marvellous voyage of discovery. 06.01.2022 If only there was an app like this (screen shot of new ios14 widget) to monitor the 97 million batteries I use on every filming shoot! Managing batteries, battery life, charging, a myriad of different and incompatible connectors and voltages is the least creative part of filming. But a dashboard app showing charge life, voltage etc across v-mount, npf, LP-E6, and stinking mavic batteries that drain if you store them upside down (it feels like!).... just imagine. Haha, we can all dream, right?
