23.01.2022 There's a lot to love about this traditional Tanan rhythm - strictly only allowed to be performed by the most honest people - played on the Donso Ngoni by guardians of the environment and culture.

23.01.2022 Mariam tells us in Bambara that Tonsole is a dance adapted from Komofoli. Komofoli is a dance associated with the men’s secret society called Komo. Playing Ko...mofoli outside of it’s ceremonial context as part of the secret society would not be acceptable. Therefore, Tonsole was adapted from Komofoli as a way for everyone to dance it. This video is from Mariam Diakite’s online school, MALIAN DANCE FOR EVERY BODY. Want to preview the rest of the course? 11.01.2022 This song by Djénéba Seck is about the (many) traditional roles fulfilled by women in family life in Mali. Mady's cousin Sangaré features in the vocals and dance. Check it out.

11.01.2022 Malian Maestra Aramata Diakite - resting in peace now but her wonderful music, messages and wisdom live on.

10.01.2022 Needless to say it hasn't been the easiest few months on the Super Mande Percussion front but FINALLY some good news to share. Our shopfront and haven of African rhythmic goodness has now re-located to BAYSWATER and we can't wait to welcome you all back! Stay tuned for more updates soon. Peace and love.

08.01.2022 There's been no time like lockdown to spend hours getting creative in the video-making department. Here's one of our latest.

08.01.2022 Inspired by a rocket! This song from Mali relates the discoveries and wonder of the Apollo shuttle back to the individual. The idea is to be yourself, focus on your best attributes, be inspired by Apollo in your own way.

07.01.2022 Anyone for a shaker? This guy shows how marketing is done on the streets of Mali. Amazing voice.

03.01.2022 We've had a lot of people asking about the situation in Mali after the recent coup d'etat and want to thank everyone for their concern. If you'd like to learn more, Mali-born New Zealand resident, our good friend Boubacar Coulibaly, was recently interviewed on Radio New Zealand to reflect on what's been happening. Have a listen here.

02.01.2022 The melody of the talking drum from West Africa. This is how it's played in Mali style.

01.01.2022 Thought you might enjoy this old style Mali women's choir with traditional flute, gita flè (calabash shaker) and drums from the ancient Maraka empire of West Africa.
