24.01.2022 Premier League Mid Week Round Up After a couple of surprise results from Tuesday nights fixtures, Wednesday nights, also threw up a few surprises, none more so ...that at The Emirates Stadium, where visiting Swansea, defeated Arsenal 2-1, meaning Arsenal's chances of winning their first title in 12 years is looking slim, after their 3rd defeat in a row. Joel Campbell struck early, however a solid performance by Swansea after the opening goal saw them level with a goal from Wayne Routledge saw the teams go in at half time level then Ashley Williams poked int he winner when keeper Cech, missed his punch. The Gunners now sit 3rd 6 points behind leaders Leicester. Newcastle travelled to Stoke and were beaten 1-0 and remain in the relegation zone, after Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri grabbing the winner on 80 minutes. Spurs, who travelled across London to West Ham, with a chance to go top on goal difference, however things didn't quite go to plan, as the Hammers grabbed a 1-0 win, after Michail Antonio's seventh-minute header gave them the 3 points. In a repeat of the League Cup Final on Sunday, Liverpool hosted Man City, who's title hopes also suffered a huge blow going down 3-0. Goals from Adam Lallana, James Milner and Roberto Firmino saw the 3 points stay at Anfield. In the final game of the Mid Week round, Man United hosted Watford. With new starlet Marcus Rashford starting his 3 game in a row, United eventually grabbed a late winner through Juan Mata's 22 yard free kick on 83 minutes. Watford missed a host of chances and Rashford had a quite game compared to his first 2 games. The win sees United level on points with 4th placed City, who have a game in hand. All in all the mid week games threw up a mixture of results, with nn of the top 4 teams winning, and only Leicester getting a point, with the next 4 teams all winning and closing the gap on the top 4. With 10 games left to play, the title is still wide open and any team from the top 5 or 6 can win it from here. On Saturday, we have the North London Derby with Spurs hosting Arsenal, both teams are desperate for a win to keep in touch with Leaders Leicester, who themselves travel to Watford. Man City host rock bottom Aston Villa and Man United travel to West Brom for their game on Sunday. See more

23.01.2022 English Premier League - Match Day 3 3 games in to season 2016/17 and the 3 big name managers continue to maintain their 100% record in the English Premier League. Sitting top on goal difference is, Pep Guardiola’s Man City, closely followed Chelsea and Man United. With all 3 teams winning this weekend, 3-1, 3-0 and 1-0 respectively. City’s Raheem Sterling scored two, his first coming after 7 minutes and his late goal in injury time sealed the win. In-between his two goals, ...Fernandinho got City’s second and West Ham’s Michail Antonio, grabbed a goal to put City on edge for the last 30 minutes, until Sterling grabbed his second. Chelsea meanwhile romped to a 3 nil win over Burnley who've had a mixed week. Firstly beating Liverpool last weekend, then getting beaten by Lancashire neighbours Accrington Stanley, in the League Cup in midweek. Hazard and Willian put the host’s 2 up before the break, with Moses putting the gloss on the win a minute from time. Unbeaten Hull City, welcomed unbeaten Man United to the KCOM Stadium, on a drenched Saturday afternoon, in the late game of the day. United substitute, 18 year old Marcus Rashford won the game in injury time, after captain Wayne Rooney, cut along the by-line to cross the ball to Rashford, who steered the ball in to the back of the net, to score on his debut this season. Following in 4th spot and still unbeaten are Everton, who are also have a new manager their hot seat, Ronald Koeman, who arrived from Southampton during the summer, won 1-0 at home to Stoke. Two other teams remain unbeaten after 3 games, newly promoted Middlesborough and Spurs who both sit in 6th and 7th on goal difference. Current Champions Leicester got their first 3 points of the season beating Swansea 2-1 Crystal Palace and Bournemouth also got their first points of the season playing out a 1 all draw, Southampton and Sunderland also shared the points, with a a 1-1 draw and Arsenal recorded their first win of the season away at Watford. In the weekends early game on Saturday afternoon, Spurs came from behind to draw 1 all with Liverpool, after James Milner slotted home a penalty just before half time. Liverpool will probably see it as 2 points dropped, after wasting a number of chances in the first half. Next weekend see's an International break, for World Cup qualifiers, taking place during the first week of September. When the EPL resume, the weekends early game on September 10, is the mouthwatering Manchester Derby, which see's old foes, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola meeting for the first time in English football.

23.01.2022 SSFA has just watched the highlights from this weekend’s English Premier League. We must say how refreshing it was to see a team pressing their opponents from the first whistle to the last whistle, harassing and hustling from the front line and forcing their opponents in to making mistakes, which eventually created goals. Jürgen Klopp has certainly given Liverpool the bounce they needed after a disastrous start under their previous manager, Brendan Rodgers. With his contagio...Continue reading

22.01.2022 English Premier League - Match Day 4 The much anticipated Manchester Derby got match day 4 underway on the weekend. Some poor defending by United presented city with the first clear chance and Kevin De Bruyne took the chance to open the scoring, 1 nil to city. City attacked again and found United defence like statues as De Bruyne's shot bounced back off the far post to the feet of Kelechi Iheanacho who finished from close range. United were given a lifeline after a mistake fr...om City's new keeper failed to collect a free kick after colliding with a team mate and Ibrahimovic pulled one back, but City looked the more comfortable team. More chances followed in the second half, United sub Rashford had a goal disallowed and De Bruyne hit the post again. The biggest talking point was the challenge on United captain Wayne Rooney, by new City keeper Claudio Bravo, who launched himself after miss hitting the ball. So City too the spoils and the talk will continue for a few weeks in and around Manchester as City walked away with bragging rights, as they remain unbeaten. In other games, Arsenal came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1, Bournemouth beat West Brom 1-0, Burnley and Hull played out a 1 all draw, with Hull snatching the equaliser in the 5th minute of injury time. Crystal Palace travelled to Middlesbrough and took all 3 points winning 1-2, Spurs piled on the misery for Stoke winning 4-0 at Stokes Brittania Stadium, while Watford came from two down to beat West Ham 4-2 a the London Stadium and the days final game saw Liverpool, who opened a new section of a stand batter the reigning champions 4-1. On Sunday Swansea and Chelsea played out a 2 all draw and on Monday, Everton's good start under Ronald Koeman continued as they smashed ex Everton manager, David Moyes' Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light, with Romelu Lukaku grabbing an 11 minute hatrick after the break. City, Chelsea and Everton remain unbeaten with City winning four from four. United sit 4th closely followed by Spurs and Liverpool rounding out the top 6. At the bottom, Stoke and Sunderland have a point each and Southampton and have 2 points. West Ham are just above the bottom 3, with Champions Leicester sitting 5th from bottom!!

20.01.2022 Great goal scored by Lee Novak for Chesterfield against FC United in the FA Cup. Watch his movement in the box as he attacks the ball and uses the pace of the excellent cross to steer the ball in to the net with the outside of his right foot. Great finish

19.01.2022 Could this be a done deal. If it is true, this could mean that the city of Manchester will have a manager at each team who has won the Champions League twice as well as winning the league in every country they have coached in. Someone is going to be disappointed come May 2017, if its true!! http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk//revealed-truth-beh

17.01.2022 Sportsmanship of the highest order, at such a young age, is brilliant to see. You can see how distraught the losers were yet this U12 Barca team showed amazing sportsmanship, years above their age to console them before celebrating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac9dvPUqVhQ

17.01.2022 European Football Round Up: Arsenal climbed to the top of the Premier league, for the first time since February 2104, all be it for 24 hours on Saturday, with a... 2-1 at home to Everton. After a slow start, two goals in two minutes from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny saw Arsenal take a two nil lead. Ross Barkley managed to pull one back for the Toffies before half time. Lukaku wasted an excellent chance to level the scores but could only find the bar with his header, then Petr Cech denied Gerard Deulofeu late on. Barry was dismissed from the field in the final moments for a second bookable offence, to compound Everton’s day. West Ham continue their brilliant start to the season, taking another 3 points from one of the big teams, this time Chelsea were the victims, losing 2-1 at the Boleyn ground. West Ham took the lead on 17 minutes when Zarate fired in after Chelsea didn’t clear the ball from the corner. However on 56 minutes, Cahill levelled the scores when he got on the end of a corner to give Chelsea some hope. However there was more to the first half than just goals. Matic who was booked for dragging down Diafra Sakho was given his marching orders 9 minutes later when dragged back Cheikhou Kouyate. The Chelsea players were furious and lost their discipline and two more players were booked, along with Jose Mourinho assistant Silvino Louro was also ordered from the bench to the stands. Then Mourinho was also dismissed to the stands after continuing his protests in the referee’s room at half time. In the second half, it was West Hams injury prone striker, Andy Carroll who was the saviour for the Hammers as he came on for the last 20 minutes to grab the winner on 79 minutes. That’s 5 loses from 10 games for Chelsea now and ‘The Special One’ is under immense pressure to turn things around. Slaven Bilic on the other hand has taken all three points at Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool and now beat Chelsea t home. The win takes them to them to joint 3rd. Watford picked up 3 points on the road at Stoke City after some slack defending by the Potters. Deeney scored his first Premier League goal with a well hit low strike just before the break. Then Ighalo set up his second goal of the game, when he laid on Abdi who smashed his drive past the reach of Jack Butland. West Brom won 1-0 on the road at Norwich, after 12 million pound man Salomon Rondon powered James McClean’s cross beyond John Ruddy a minute after the break. This was the 3rd straight defeat for the Canaries, who have 3 tough games coming up against Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Leicester continue their steady form under Claudio Ranieri, with inform striker Jamie Vardy scoring in his seventh successive Premier League game . Vardy pounced and smashed the ball in the net from 3 yards in what was otherwise a quite game. Jamie Vardy’s goal means he joins a select group of seven other players including Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and Ruud van Nistelrooy to have scored in seven straight Premier League games. Aston Villa sacked their coach Tim Sherwood after another loss this time at home to Swansea, going down 2-1. Villa took the led on 62 minutes, however they couldn’t hold on and 6 minutes later Swansea levelled. Jordan Ayew gave Villa the lead with a stooping header, however Gylfi Sigurdsson curled in a 25-yard free-kick love it up. Then on 87 minutes Jordan Ayew’s brother, Andre scored the winner that gave Swansea the points. There was also 4 games played on Sunday this weekend, which included two derbies, the North East, derby between Sunderland and Newcastle and the Manchester Derby, between United and City. Newcastle travelled down he road to Sunderland and it was Sunderland who moved off the bottom of the table with a 3-0 win and a great for new manager Sam Allardyce. Although Newcastle dominated possession for the first 45 minutes it was Sunderland who went in at half time with the lead after Coloccini was adjudged to have fouled Fletcher and to compound things even more, the referee sent Coloccini off. The resulting penalty was converted by Johnson and that changed the game from there on in. In the second half, Jones added a second and with 4 minutes remaining, Fletcher scored the third to move the Maccams above their neighbours and off the bottom of the league. Tottenham travelled to Bournemouth, where the cherries Matt Ritchie, fired the hosts in front in the 1st minute. But this was Harry Kane’s game to announce his drought was over and he was back in the goal scoring business. Kane scored a hattrick with goals in the 9th, 56th and 63rd minutes. In-between his goals, Dembele side footed Spurs in to a 2-1 lead and Erik Lamela tapped in the 3rd. A great result for Spurs who will no doubt be glad to see Kane back on the score sheet. Bouremouth 1- Spurs 5. Up in Manchester the derby promised so much, but gave so little. United had most of the possession, however both teams could only muster 1 shot on target each. As often happens in these games, both teams cancel each other out, which can be a bit of a bore for the fans, however as we all know, it only takes a second to score a goal, which is what this game was crying out for. The last game of the day was over at Anfield, where new Manager Jurgen Klopp was denied a first victory against a stubborn Southampton side. Although Liverpool took the lead on 77 minutes, with a towering header from Benteke, but on 86 minutes it was Sadio Mane who bundled the ball across the line after a looping header could only be palmed away by Liverpool keeper Mignolet. In Spain, Louis Suarez scored a first hat trick as Barca came from behind to beat Einar to keep up with Real Madrid. Ronaldo continued his scoring feat as his Real Madrid side won 3-1 on the road at Celta Vigo. Ronaldo gave Real the lead on 8 minutes with Danilo and Marcello scoring one each. Agudo Durán managed to pull one back for Celta Vigo between those two goals. Third placed Athletico Madrid beat Valencia 2-1 at home to stay 2 points in front of Celta Vigo. In Germany Bayern Munich continue to sit atop of the league with another convincing 4-0 win over FC Koln, making 10 from 10 for the Champions. Second placed Dortmund also smashed FC Augsburg 5-1.

16.01.2022 Champions League Round Up Real Madrid continued their good form the Champions League, with a 2-0 win over Roma. (4-0 AGG) Cristiano Ronaldo got Los Blancos off the mark, when he anticipated a cross in to the box to get in front of Roma defender Kostas Manolas and poke home the opener. Four minutes later Ronaldo, who was continually booed by the Madrid fans, set up James Rodriguez to seal the tie, after a swift counter attack. So Madrid progress to the quarter finals. In the n...ights other game, VFL Wolfborg defeated KAA Gent 1-0. (4-2 AGG) Andre Schurrle's 74th minute strike sealed the win for the German team. Chelsea welcomed PSG to Stamford Bridge and for the second season running PSG ran out winners and progress to the last 16, with a 2-1 on the night (2-4 AGG). Goals from Adrien Rabiot and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, was enough to see the Paris team progress. Diego Costa managed to get on the scoresheet between the two PSG goals, but PSG were too strong again for the English Champions on the night. In the final game of the week, Zenit St. Petersburg lost 1-2 at home to Benfica. (1-3 AGG) Hulk opened the scoring for the home team, but goals from Nicolas Gaitan and Talisca, who scored with the last kick of the game, saw the Portuguese side through. Next week we see Athletico Madrid host PSV, which is still wide open after a nil all draw in the first leg.Man City host Dynamo Kiev, bringing home a 3-1 win from their visit to Kiev last week. Barcelona host Arsenal, bringing a 2-0 win back from the Emirates stadium and finally a mouth watering 2nd leg between Bayern Munich and Juventus sees out the round. This game finished 2 all after the first leg, so goals but either team will mean the other team must attack, so this looks to be the game of the round. See more

16.01.2022 Huge week of football coming up this week. First up is the Champions League Semi-Finals. In the first game, Manchester City host 'Los Blancos' Real Madrid, in the first leg at the City Of Manchester Stadium. Man City will be without influential midfielder Yaya Toure, however club captain Vincent Kompany returns after a long stint on the injury list could possibly return. For Madrid, the only injury concerns are with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, who both picked up kno...cks recently. This promises to be a cracker of a game, with both teams containing quaity players in every area of the pitch and also including some of the worlds best strikers in Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguera. If you are in Australia the kick off is 4.45am AEST and can be found on SBS. In the second semi Final, there is also a Manchester City connection with their future manager Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich travelling to the Spanish Capital to face Althletico Madrid. Again, this promises to be a cracker, Athletico are tough to beat at home as Barcelona found out in the last round. Athletico have the best defence in La Liga, whilst Bayern have the best attack int he Bundesliga. Meanwhile in the English Premier league Leicester City are just one win away from claiming their first Premier League Championship, since it began in 1993. Even more amazing is that they only came in to the Premier League in season 2014, coming up from the Championship as league winners and only just surviving in the premier league last season, by the skin of their teeth. This weekend they face Manchester United at Old Trafford, a team who have had a very mixed season, however they have just reached the FA Cup Final and are also pushing for a place in next seasons Champions League.

15.01.2022 Super Skills Football Academy completed the second and final day of their 2 day Academy at the Cavanbah Centre, Byron Bay today. Today's morning session was all about dribbling the ball and shooting. The players learnt new techniques, of how to move the ball from one side to another, to get past their opponent, whilst also using both the inside and outside of the foot to move the ball quickly past the marker. The progression on the dribbling drills was then to end with a sho...t. After the morning break, the focus became about shooting, without a defender, to give the players the confidence to grasp the technique of striking the ball with the laces of the boot. After a while a defender was introduced, to create a game like situation. This was followed by some small sided games before lunch, to give the players a real game situation, to practice dribbling the ball, beating their man and getting a shot in on the goal. After the lunch break, the players again continued to improve their control technique, by juggling the ball, keeping the ball close and under control. After that, the players separated in to small groups to continue small sided games, where the players were encouraged to practice all the new skills, tricks and techniques they had learnt over the 2 day academy. When the time came to end the academy, all the players received their Certificate of Attendance and their Adidas Tango Football, so they can go back to their clubs and show off their newly acquired skills and tricks. SSFA would like to thank everyone who attended and we wish you all, the very best for the rest of the football season and we hope to see you all again at the next SSFA School Holiday Academy later in the year. Remember, Practice Makes Permanent!

It could be seen as two points lost for Leicester. Spurs play tomorrow and can go top on goals scored if they win away at West Ham. 14.01.2022 Coaching Reviews received for Season 2015 and holiday camps for SSFA. I have been involved in soccer for the last 30 odd years and played professionally in Australia at the highest level. In all my years and experience I believe that Kevin’s coaching and player management is one of the best I have seen. He is a dedicated, skilled, and passionate coach. Through the years that my son has been coached by Kevin I have seen him become more confident as a footballer and within hims...elf. The quality of coaching is excellent from the technique in skills and the intensity in the drills. Kevin provides valuable feedback and reports to the player at the end of each camp and season. This valuable information allows the players to focus on specific areas in the off season or between camps. John Buonavoglia, SYDNEY

In the afternoon, the new Super Skills continued followed by a penalty tournament, then more small sided games. Tuesday is all about keeping the ball under control. Lot of dribbling with the ball, some new skills whilst running with the ball will be learnt, as well as some crafty new Super Skills.

09.01.2022 Premier League Round Up In the weekends early game, North London rivals Spurs welcomed cross city rivals Arsenal to White Hart Lane for a 2nd V 3rd clash. Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for the visitors on 39 minutes, however on 55 minutes Arsenal were reduced to 10 men after Arsenal's Francis Coquelin was shown a second yellow card. That lead lasted for another 5 minutes when Toby Alderweireld leveled the scores up, before Harry Kane put the home team 2-1 up two minutes lat...Continue reading

09.01.2022 European Championships: Group A: Game 1: France v Romania France who are hosting the Championships this time round opened up their tournament with a 2-1 win against a resolute Romania. It was an emotional night at Stade de France, the same venue where where suicide bombers struck during the November attacks. ... Dimitri Payet was France's saviour, setting one up and scoring the winner with a spectacular strike with only minutes remaining. Les Bleus opened the scoring on 58 minutes when Payet's cross found Oliver Giroud, who headed home as he beat the keeper to the ball. However it wasn't going to all France's way, as Romania pressed for an equilizer within seven minutes, when Patrice Evra as penalised for clipping Nicolae Stanciu inside the area. The resulting penalty was taken by Bogdan Stancu slotting home from the spot. A draw looked the likely outcome, but it was that man Payet, who's coming off the back of an amazing season with West Ham in the Premier League, shot found a yard on the edge of the box and smashed his shot left footed in to the top corner of the goal and capped a brilliant performance by the French star. The two other teams in this group, Albania and Switzerland, meet in Lens on Saturday, whilst group B gets underway when Wales play Slovakia, followed by England verses Russia in the day's late game. France take on Albania in Marseille on Wednesday evening France time, whilst Romania continue in Paris, and take on Switzerland at Parc des Princes in that day's early game. See more

09.01.2022 FA Cup 5th Round: Current Champions Arsenal were held at home 0-0 to Championship side Hull and will reply at the KC Stadium on Tuesday March 8. Championship side Reading defeated Premier League team West Brom 3-1. Watford beat Championship side Leeds United 1-0 and rounding out the games on Saturday, Everton made the long trip down to Bournemouth and came away with a 2-0 victory. ... On Sunday, West Ham came from a goal down to hammer a poor Blackburn Rovers 5-1 at Blackburn's Ewood Park. Crystal Palace edged out Spurs in the all London tie of the round 1-0 at White Hart Lane and the final game of the day was between Chelsea, who welcomed Man City to Stamford Bridge. City, who no doubt had one eye on their Champions League game this week, fielded almost a youth team and got battered 5-1 by a rampant Chelsea. In the rounds final fixture on Monday evening, the lowest league team still in the cup, Shrewsbury Town, welcomed Man United to Greenhouse Meadow. Shrewsbury had nothing to lose, whilst United we're playing to keep face and for manager Louie Van Gaal to keep his job. However on the night, United had no such problems and ran out easy winners 3-0. The draw for the Quarter Finals looks like this: Everton will host Chelsea Reading host Crystal Palace Man United host West Ham Arsenal or Hull host Watford These games will be played on the weekend of March 12

09.01.2022 Weekend football update from SSFA. With no top flight European games this weekend, due to International qualifications for the Euro 2106 tournament, we concentrate on the Hyundai A-League, which kicked off in Australia over the past weekend. Opening the round on Thursday was Western Sydney Wanderers, who hosted Brisbane Roar. ... This was a game the Wanderers and their supporters will want to forget, after three defensive errors cost them 3 goals. The opening goal of the season, came after a horror back pass allowed Roar to take the lead, then two from corners, that saw the Wanderers defence fall asleep on both occasions. Although Nichols did level things up at 1-1, it was the mistakes in defence that cost the Wanderers in their first game hit season. Eon Friday night it was Adelaide and Melbourne Victory, who took to the filed, in a close encounter, with both teams sharing the opening games spoils on a hill all draw. Elsewhere, the Mariners won a thrilling opening game on the coast against Perth, winning 3-2. As most people have predicted, there will be plenty of goals this season in the games involving the Mariners, lets just hope for their fans that they are in the right goal. Sydney and Melbourne City also played on Saturday evening and it was City who took an early lead however the sky blues equalised 3 minutes after the break. Both teams had plenty pf chances, and a point each was probably a fare in the end. In the opening rounds final fixture, Newcastle Jets headed over the Tasman to play Wellington in their opening game. The Jets who have been on a rollercoaster ride for a number of years now are the favourites propping up the ladder at the end of the season, however they got off to a flyer, beating Wellington 2-1. Coming up this weekend Adelaide host the Wanderers, the Jets host Sydney, its the first derby of the season with Victory hosting City, the Mariners head up the coat to Brisbane and in the final game of the round, its the longest away game in world football, Wellington travel to Perth Also kicking off this weekend is the highly anticipated W-League, where Melbourne Victory host Perth, Adelaide host Western Sydney, Brisbane host Canberra and Sydney host newcomers Melbourne City. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the W-League this season, after an excellent showing at the Women’s World Cup by the Matilda’s earlier this year.

08.01.2022 Here we go again, hold on tight it could be a rough ride for some supporters and teams!! It was another exciting start to the English Premier League this weekend was. New players, new managers, new stadiums, but the one thing that never changes is the, edge of your seat football that makes the English Premier League the most exciting league in the world! The worlds best players giving us fans fast skilful football and lots of goals! Here are the full results from the opening... weekend. Hull 2-1 Leicester City Burnley 0-1 Swansea City Crystal Palace 0-1 West Brom Everton 1-1 Tottenham Middlesbrough 1-1 Stoke Southampton 1-1 Watford Man City 2-1 Sunderland Bournemouth 1-3 Man Utd Arsenal 3-4 Liverpool Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Athletico Madrid and Real Madrid, who have both won their semi final games against Bayern Munich and Man City respectively. Athletico's win is the biggest win in the eye of the fans, although when they stats are looked at, Athletico are a team built on defence and have conceded the least amount of gaols in this seasons Champions League. They are also a team bought together by a coach who was top top defender and played at the very highest levels of his pro...fession, Diego Simeone. Bayern on the other hand had been this seasons Champions Leagues top scorers, a team with attacking flair and goals aplenty from any part of the pitch. A team that has been partly bought together by 2 times Champions League winner Pep Guardiola. At the end of the first leg in Madrid, Athletico led 1-0, then a week later back in Munich, although Bayern took the lead, Athletico scored an equaliser which meant Bayern had to score two, unfortunately they could only manage 1 and it wasn't enough and Athletico went through on the away goal rule after the game finished 2-2 on aggregate. In the other semi final, it was cross city Rivals Real Madrid taking Man City. After a nil all draw in Manchester last week, it was all to play for in this game. It was Real who emerged victorious in the end winning the tie 1-0, after Fernando deflected a Gareth Bale cross in to his own net. With City only needing an away goal to go through, they appeared to be a hesitant to go for broke and ultimately time ran out and they were left to rue their chance. In the crazy world of football, had both the losing teams won, it would have meant, Pep Guardiola facing the team he will manage in season 2016/17 Man City!!. Now that would have been interesting!!, Athletico and Real head to Italy and the San Siro Stadium on May 28 for what is bound to be a passionate affair. In the Spanish La Liga, Real sit one point below Athletico, in 3rd position, with two games to play. Athletico sit a point behind leaders Barca, so this final has an extra edge to it as well as someone will have bragging rights before a ball is even kicked. Who’s our money on? It’s a close one to call. This season in La Liga Athletico have had the edge, winning at Real 1-0 and then drawing 1-1. However the Champions League Final is a different game, a huge occasion and I think that Real have the experience to go on and win it, by a goal or two providing they can get their talisman player Cristiano Ronaldo back to full fitness in time.

07.01.2022 Australian Football Round Up: Newcastle Jets continue to be a hoodoo team for Melbourne Victory, after David Carney fired the Jets to a 1-0 win over the Victory... on Friday night. Both teams had chances, but it was Carney who took his and that meant the Jets taking the 3 points, ensuring the Victory continue to wait for a win in Newcastle since 2009. Over in Wellington, the goals continue to rain down as the hosts beat the Roar 3-2. The Roar took the lead on 26 minutes when Petratos finished off a great team goal. However Wellington came back and equalised then took the lead with goals through McGlinchey who levelled the scores up, then Krishna gave the host's the lead on 49 minutes. The visitors came back and levelled the score up with a goal from a corner after Wellington failed to clear the ball and Jade North put the ball in the net from the back post. With the game heading for a draw it was sub Powell who found the winner after coming on two minutes earlier. The ball came across the Roar box, wasn’t dealt with and fell kindly to Powell who had an easy tap in to give the home team the 3 points meaning the Roar relinquish their 100% record. Also on Saturday was the 10th Sydney Derby, between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers. The game was billed as the game of the round, however it failed to ignite, with only three shots on target for both teams, which is not good enough for either team. However it was Sydney FC who took the spoils late on, with Ninkovic getting the winner on 88 minutes. The Wanderers will feel hard done by, as they thought they had scored a perfectly good goal in the first half, however the ref and the linesman ruled that Sotirio was coming from an offside position when he headed the ball over the Sydney keeper. Replays showed he was level and the decision could have gone in favour of the Wanderers on another day, On Sunday, Melbourne City cruised past the Central Cast Mariners 3-1 in Melbourne. Goals from Kisnorbo and a brace from Fornaroli was enough to see off the Mariners. The Mariners did equalise through Fitzgerald 2 minutes after Kisnorb had given City the lead, but City never looked troubled after they went in to the lead. In the final game of the round, Perth saw off Adelaide with a 3-1 victory in the West. Goals from Moraes, Fernandez and Castro, saw Perth open up a 3-0 lead after 72 minutes. Adelaide did manage a consolation goal on 75 minutes through Ferreira. So Sydney sit pretty at the top followed by Brisbane, Wellington, Newcastle, Melbourne City, Melbourne Victory, Perth, Central Coast, Adelaide and the wanderers look up at the rest from the bottom. Over in the W-League, with a lot of teams missing key players as the Matilda’s play some overseas games, it was a chance for some of the fringe team players to get a run out. Sydney FC travelled to Canberra where it was the hosts who took the 3 points, winning 3-0. Goals from Nicole Begg, Veronica Perez and Caitlin Munoz sealed the win for the team from the Capital as Sydney continue to struggle to find their feet this season. Over in Perth, the host played out a 0-0 all draw against Newcastle Jets, who were playing their first game of the season after a bye last weekend. With both team missing key players, this again was a chance for the fringe players to get a run out and the Jets will be happy to have come away with a point from the Perth. Perth remain unbeaten and will welcome the leagues newcomers Melbourne City next weekend. Moving on to Melbourne City, City continued with their 100% start to the season, winning the Melbourne derby against Victory 2-1. Having a number a players away on International duty, City had to call on some players who are no longer contracted to W-league teams to make up the numbers, with ex Victory defender Hannah Brewer one of those players. City took the lead on 49 minutes though Marianna Tabain, Aivi Luik made it two nil on 72 minutes. In the final moments of the game, substitute Knight scored what could be an early contender for goal of the season with a stunning long range effort. In the final game of the round, Brisbane Roar beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0 in Sydney. A brace for Gielnik and a goal in the final minute for Marzano, ensured the visitors made the hosts pay for missing a number of chances throughout the game. Sitting at the top are new girls, Melbourne City, on 6 points, followed by Brisbane also on 6 points, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, Newcastle, WS Wanderers, Melbourne Victory and holding up the table are Sydney FC.

07.01.2022 FA Cup & Premier League Round Up In the English FA Quarter Finals, Reading welcomed ex manager, Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace, who are winless in 2016 in the Premier League. However the Eagles proved to be too strong for the Championship side, running out 2 nil winners. Goals from Yohan Cabaye, who slotted home from the spot on 86 minutes, with Frazier Campbell sealing the win in stoppage time. On Saturday, a resurgent Chelsea travelled to Everton, where ex Chelsea player Rome...Continue reading

06.01.2022 So Pep Guardiola has been named as the next coach of Manchester City. No big surprises there really, it seemed that City was always going to be his club of choice, give the Barcelona connections already in place in the boardroom. The interesting this will be how the City players react to that news, knowing that they are know playing for their futures more than at any other time in their playing careers. Summer time will prove to be an interesting time at the Etihad Stadium.

This promises to be an intriguing match, with Leicester City hoping to continue their Championship season winning form and new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanting to get off to a winning start, after he ...took over from Louis Van Gaal after the latter was sacked within hours of guiding United to the F.A. Cup. 05.01.2022 Premier League Round Up Arsenal travelled to Everton in the early game on Saturday and two goals inside the opening 45 minutes was enough to earn the Gunners 3 points. Scorers were Danny Welbeck on 7 minutes and Alex Iwobi, got his first for the club. Everton never really got going in this game as the Gunners bounced back from a week that saw them knocked out of the FA cup, then the Champions League. Chelsea V West Ham again proved that West Ham are still in the hunt for a to...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Group A: Game 2: Albania V Switzerland Albania made their debut in this tournament and almost managed to take their first point, from their first game. Fabian Schar’s header proved to be the winning goal after goalkeeper Etrit Berisha got found in no mans land and flapped at Xherdan Shaqiri’s corner.... Although the Swiss controlled the game Albania wasted chances to take a share of the points, however things were made harder from them once their captain Lorik Cana received a second yellow for handball. Group B got underway on Saturday as well, with Wales taking on Slovakia. Wales, who are in their first finals tournament for 58 years got off to a flying start, thanks to their Real Madrid man Gareth Bale, who’s dipping free kick gave Wales the lead after 10 minutes, which they kept until the 61st minute, when Ondrej Duda punished some passive defending by Wales, to equilize. However Wales we’re not to be out done and when substitute Hal Robson-Kanu’s, moment came, he took it. Although it wasn’t the prettiest of finishes, it gave the Welsh the 3 points and sent them to the top of the group and a perfect start for the men from Wales. The second game of the day in Group B was between England and Russia. The post match celebrations in Marseille’s old port area had marred the start of the tournament, on the pitch the game was tight and you could sense the tension in the air. England took the lead when Eric Dier crashed a 20-yard free-kick high in to the net, however once again, England failed to win their opening game in a major tournament, when Vasili Berezutski’s stoppage-time header gave Russia a draw, when the game should have been out of reach. England will rue those missed chances and manager Roy Hodgson may also regret taking man of the match, Wayne Rooney off as he orchestrated most of England’s chances, with his range of passing. Next up for England is Wales, in what will no doubt be a passionate game, with Wales needing a win to secure their place in the knockout stages and England wanting to win the game to know what they need to do in their last game against Slovakia. In the other game in Group B, Slovakia take on Russia Group C and D kick off tonight, when and its Group D that kick off the days proceedings when Turkey play Croatia in the days early game. Following that, Poland play Northern Ireland, who have qualified for their first tournament since the 1986 World Cup. In the days final game and second game in group C, Germany take on the Ukraine.

02.01.2022 English Premier League Round Up: West Ham continue their good form this season with a 1-0 win of lowly Sunderland, with Michail Antonio scoring the winner after 30 minutes. Leicester City keep setting the pace with another important win, beating Norwich City 1-0 at home, which put them 5 points clear on Saturday evening, Substitute Leonardo Ulloa scored the 89th-minute winner. Southampton welcomed Chelsea to St. Mary's and took an early lead through Shane Long, however Chels...ea rallied back to draw level when Cesc Fabregas' cross sneaked in. Then on 89 minutes, Branislav Ivanovic headed Chelsea to 3 very important points. Aston Vila contniue to struggle, a short trip up to Stoke proved to be fruitless with a 2-1 defeat. Marko Arnautovic's brace secured the points, while Leandro Bacuna's late goal gave Villa a glimmer of hope of salvaging a draw, it wasn't meant to be. Watford welcomed Bournemouth to Vicarage Road. Both teams missed good chances to take the points, but in the end it finished nil all. In the final game on Saturday, West Brom beat Crystal Palace in an entertaining 3-2 match.Craig Gardner Craig Dawson and Saido Berahino fired the Baggies in to a 3-0 half tim lead before Palace's Connor Wickham scored twice, to make it a very nervy last 10 minutes for the baggies who got the win in the end. In to Sunday and Arsenal went to Old Trafford to face a Man United team who had won their last 2 games. Young Teenager striker Marcus Rashford scored two on his League debut and set up a third as united ran out 3-2 winners. Arsenal scored their goals through ex United striker, Danny Welbeck and Ozil. In the weekends final game, spurs came from behind to beat Swansea 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Goals from Nacer Chadli and Danny Rose for Spurs and Alberto Paloschi gave the visitors the lead. See more

01.01.2022 Group C: Game 1: Poland V Northern Ireland Northern Ireland’s first game at a Euro Championships final ended in defeat as the Northern Irish team went down 1-0 to Poland. Milik, who ply’s his trade with Ajax in Amsterdam, slotted in early in the second half. Some staunch defending by the Northern Irish team kept the Poles frustrated, however they failed to muster any clean chances to threaten the Polish goal. This was Northern Irelands first defeat in 13 games and they will w...ant to get back to winning ways when they take on the Ukraine on Thursday. Group C: Game 2: Germany V Ukraine Germany opened their account at these championships with a 2 nil win over the Ukraine. Goals form Shkodran Mustafi on 19 minutes and Bastian Schweinsteiger in added time, didn’t really tell the whole story. Germany looked vulnerable at times and only a goal line clearance from Boeteng and several saves from Manuel Neuer kept the score line to zero. Tony Kroos, like how Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric was instrumental in orchestrating the moves from Germany’s midfield. As always, the Germans will grow in confidence and will start getting in to form as the games go on, Group D: Game 1: Turkey V Croatia A wonderful long-range volley by Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric, was enough to take the points for Croatia in their opening game of the tournament. Modric’s sublime volley came just before the break and Croatia wasted more chances after the break. Turkey, who had huge support in the Parc des Princes, we’re second best for much of the game and the 3 points taken by Croatia, was more than deserved.

01.01.2022 English Premier League: Well that was another amazing weekend of football in the English Premier League. The early game on Saturday saw Crystal Palace continue ...their fine form with a 2-0 win over West Brom, with goals from Yannick Bolasie and Yohan Cabaye, which saw Palace rise to second int he league for a few hours at least whilst the other teams played at 3pm. In the other games, Aston Villa continued their poor form losing 1-0 at home to Stoke City, new boys Bournemouth and Watford played out a 1 all draw, Man City got back to winning ways in the league, smashing a very poor Newcastle 6-1, with Sergio Aguero bagging a 5 goal haul!! Leicester City continued their good start to the season with a 2-1 away win at Norwich and bottom of the table Sunderland had a 2 all draw at home to West Ham. This result was the final nail in the coffin for Sunderland Manager Dick Advocate, who ended is reign at the Stadium of Light. In the final game of the day, Chelsea slumped to their fourth defeat of the season losing 3-1 at home to Southampton. Jose Mourinho admits this is the worst period he has ever had as a coach and is under immense pressure to get Chelsea moving in the right direction. They are currently in 16th place just 4 points above the bottom 3. On Sunday, it was the Merseyside derby, with Everton hosting Liverpool. Liverpool took the lead but moments later Everton had levelled the game and that’s how it ended 1 all. Following this game was Arsenal hosted Man United. Arsenal got off to a flying start scoring 3 goals in the first 20 minutes, which was too much for United to claw back and that’s how it ended. The 3rd game on Sunday was Swansea welcomed Spurs, who played out a 2 all draw. However the biggest news of the weekend was to come later that day when Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool’s Manager was sacked after just 3 years in charge and a less than impressive start to the season. It’s been a tough road for Rodgers, who was bought in and hailed as one to the best new British coaches, however his time at Liverpool was mixed. Becoming the only manager to not win a trophy in his first three years at Liverpool, was not a title he wished for, and the loss of major players such as Luis Suarez and captain Steven Gerrard have not helped the cause. Meanwhile in Germany, leaders Bayern thrashed second placed Dortmund, 5-1 with the current hottest striker on the planet, Robert Lewandowski, scoring twice in the second half to take his tally to 12 goals in the last four games as Bayern open up a 7 point lead after 8 games. In other games of note, 3rd place Schalke were beaten 3-0 at home to 5th place FC and 4th played Hertha Berlin beat SV Hamburger 3-0 at home Over in Spain, the Madrid derby saw a close game end 1 all. A game that could have seen Real move to the top if they had won saw Karim Benzema open the scoring on 9 minutes, only for Luciano Vietto to score his first Atletico. In other games, top of the league Villarreal lost 1-0 at Levante and Barca lost for the second consecutive time on the road at Sevilla going down 2-1 . This weekend we see the A-League start locally as well as the W-League. I fully expect higher attendances in the W-League games, especially after a fantastic Womens World Cup showing but he Matilda’s. Be sure to check back next week for a full rundown of the results from Europe and locally on Super Skills Football Academy. Practice Makes Permanent

01.01.2022 Super Skills Football Academy would like to send huge congratulations to Leicester City, on winning the English Premier League over night. In a season that has seen all the big clubs suffer with form and continuity, Leicester have lead from the front for most of the season, with their swashbuckling direct style of football, which has attracted the attention of not just fans all across England, but all over the world. Guided by the excellent Claudio Ranieri, who has become a c...ult hero in Leicester and England with his great sense of humour, but also his no nonsense approach to man management. Some praise must also go to their previous manager Nigel Pearson, who assembled most of the team and made some of the best buys during his time with the club in season 2014/15 and which ensured their safety last season. The challenges for Leicester begin this weekend when they play Everton at home, in what is bound to be a huge party atmosphere, however Everton will be looking to spoil the party and also want to be the first team to beat the Champions. The second challenge will be much harder, convincing their players that they are a club worth staying at, whilst some of the worlds biggest clubs from around Europe knock on the door waiving their bucket loads of cash. So once again, congratulations Leicester very worthy Champions for the season 2015/16. You may only be Champions for a season, but the memories will last a lifetime for everyone involved. for all those who want to know a little more about the Leicester City Players, where they've been and how they had to battle to get to the top, here's a great little item from BBC Football.
