25.01.2022 This flowchart featured in one of our Seminars nearly three years ago. When not satiated by Greece and its debt woes, many commentators are now putting the spotlight on the "crumbling" Chinese stock market, which, despite the Chinese Government's best efforts at intervening, is down over 30% since peaking on June 12. Whilst the recent correlation in the iron ore price and the Shanghai Composite Index is noteworthy for Australian investors, greater emphasis should be placed on an all-too-familiar foe: debt.

25.01.2022 A bat and a ball cost $1.10 between them. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does each cost? You probably answered that question incorrectly at first. That's why Behavioural Finance matters.

25.01.2022 Did you know? In Old English 'pygg' was a type of clay that was used to make jars and dishes that held money. The word eventually morphed into 'piggy bank'.

24.01.2022 We are 100% independently owned and operated. That means no alignment with banks or insurance companies. Unfortunately, most Financial Advisers working in Australia don't operate this way, which means their clients end up with investment products that aren't in their best interests. If we recommend an exposure to the Australian stock market, we'll usually do this via a low-cost Exchange Traded Fund. This article explains why: http://www.modernluxury.com//the-best-investment-advice-yo

22.01.2022 Do you think rising property prices will prevent the RBA from lowering the cash rate tomorrow?

22.01.2022 These stats haven't changed much in the last decade. Perhaps these numbers would improve if people considered each prospective property investment as a stepping stone rather than the ultimate goal. We often meet people so focused on buying a property that represents good value and 'fits within their comfort zone' that they overlook its role in their portfolio.

20.01.2022 More insights into the mind of the greatest living investor, Warren Buffett. What's your favourite Buffett quote? We like "don't test the depth of the river with both feet".

20.01.2022 Wow! This result is a great reason not to pay too much attention to opinion polls.

18.01.2022 Do you regularly rebalance your portfolio? It makes sense from a risk & return perspective, though it is easier said than done to sell stocks that have performed well and buy stocks that haven't.

17.01.2022 It would be fair to say that the 2015 Budget will be remembered more for what could've happened than what was actually announced, especially regarding superannuation.

16.01.2022 Bernie Fraser in today's Australian Financial Review: "is it really lower inflation that's provoking the Reserve Bank or concern about weakness of the economy?" The former RBA head also predicted the Australian dollar would now spend most of 2017 between US67c and US69c. We couldn't agree more. #feelthebernie

13.01.2022 We're only human. That's why it's important to understand behavioural biases when investing. We often cite these challenges when recommending strategies to clients. Here is an introduction to Behavioural Finance: http://money.usnews.com//7-behavioral-biases-that-may-hurt

11.01.2022 The Grexit and the Brexit. The most significant global economic moment in 2015?

11.01.2022 With regards to monetary policy and 'macroprudential tools' (e.g. mandating higher deposits for investor loans), New Zealand is 6-12 months ahead of Australia. Will we follow their lead? Perhaps not, given that after all of the sophisticated tricks they have trialled to moderate Auckland's booming real estate market, the problem could be remarkably simple: a lack of supply.

10.01.2022 Global Interest Rates. The lowest they'll ever be, or further to fall?

08.01.2022 Did you know? Since 2010 there has been growing concerns about illegitimate $50 notes being circulated. A number of scams were busted via police raids, seizing machines that printed the alleged $50 notes. So how do you spot a fake $50 note? Apparently if you scratch your nails or a coin across the translucent window of the note (see through part) the star on the note can be removed. Bet from now on you will be scratching every $50 you get?

07.01.2022 Did you know? Over one-quarter of the people living in Australia today were born overseas, with the trend suggesting further increases over time. Are you considering this fact when deliberating over your next investment?

06.01.2022 Did you know? For folks eligible to claim the Age Pension, if you shelter assets in a superannuation (accumulation) account in the name of your spouse whilst they are under Age Pension age, those assets are exempt from the Centrelink Assets Test. For many clients this has created an extra $5,000 - $10,000 per annum of cash flow, which can really improve some lifestyle choices during retirement.

05.01.2022 Are you concentrating? The percentage of the S&P/ASX300 in the top 10 securities stands at about 50 per cent and has been increasing over the past eight years. For context and comparison, the top 10 stocks in the US market account for about 17 per cent, in Japan 31 per cent, in the UK 38 per cent and in Canada 47 per cent.

04.01.2022 Did you know? 50% of India's population is below the age of 25. By 2030, India is expected to have the largest labour force in the world.

04.01.2022 I have no childhood memory of my father paying for anything with a credit card (or 'bank card' as he still calls them, which perhaps shows his age). Kids are far more likely to grow up and 'do what you do' rather than 'do what you say'. Thus, his actions taught me more than any lesson about the evils of being charged 20-30%pa in interest that is not tax deductible. What has been the most influential money habit you inherited from your parents?

02.01.2022 "So while the stock market created about $32 trillion in lifetime wealth over this approximately 90 years, more than half of that came from only 86 top-performing stocks (out of nearly 26,000)."

01.01.2022 How have falling interest rates affected property values in your area?

01.01.2022 When we first meet with clients, they have typically had their superannuation invested in a 'balanced' fund via a retail or industry super fund. But what does 'balanced' actually mean? http://investmentmagazine.com.au//definition-of-growth-di/

01.01.2022 Would Greece defaulting on their debts be the disaster everyone seems to be fearing? Recent history would suggest not. Perhaps greater focus should be on whether they remain a Member of the European Union.

01.01.2022 Does it surprise you that the most people who negative gear are in the middle tax bracket? Many of our clients with significant property portfolios earn a surprisingly normal wage.
