12.01.2022 Morning all at breakfast this morning I was flicking through some of my hoof picks and thought to myself I should start sharing these . This is a big beautiful warmblood that I trim on 5 cycle now, his owner decided that she wanted to try and barefoot after years of not really being happy with his feet in shoes. This isn’t to say the farrier wasn't do a good job or that Spike was lame it was just that he was not quite right. Decided to go bare and remove the shoes can be... fought with ups and downs but when an owner and the Trimmer work together the end result is a wonderfully health and functional hoof. Please message me if you would like more information about removing your shoes and going barefoot. Spike first trim after removing the shoes

03.01.2022 When I see unhealthy feet, a million thoughts come to mind right away. What kind of diet is this horse on? What is this horse's living environment? Have there ...been any changes lately- new pasture, new hay? Has this horse been on antibiotics? Has it had any bloodwork for metabolic issues (IR, PPID)? Does it have an old injury or conformational issue affecting movement? Because the truth is, I don't usually see unhealthy feet on healthy horses. Horses on a good, forage-based, mineral-balanced diet, getting adequate movement in a good turn out space, with minimal environmental and physiological stressors tend to have the strongest feet I see. There are of course exceptions to the rule (and I'm sure we could all name one or two), but healthy feet come from a healthy horse. Before we blame the farrier, or the weather, or the barn owner, etc., we should be considering the best way to improve the health of the horse in order to improve the feet. Show me your strong hooves!
