25.01.2022 #repost @supportthegirlsaus Could you imagine losing your partner in your early 50's, you have been a full time parent, your skill set is minimal from a professional perspective and suddenly you have to find a job to survive?!!!! This is the reality for many mature age women. We all know the job market is a challenge on a good day. They become isolated due to fear, financial change. These are some of the "invisible" women. #invisiblewomen #widow #socialisolation #financiallybereft #communitysupport #creatingchange #socialimpact #skillset #jobless

16.01.2022 @jacindaardern leading from the front again! #supportasista #repost @jacindaardern We may not talk about it much, but one of the issues that young people write to me about is period poverty. Poverty amongst children and young people doesn’t stop at things like food and housing, and we know that nearly 95,000 young people miss out on school and other activities during their periods because they can’t afford products. That’s not right. And that’s why as part of this year’...s Budget we’re funding a new programme that will provide free period products to schools. To chat about the funding, today I met with organisers from The Period Place, Dignity NZ and Nest Consulting. If you’re not familiar with their work, these women have been campaigning over the past few years to improve period education within New Zealand, and increase access to period products for those that need them. I hope they’ll also play a role as we plan the roll-out of this initiative at this stage it’s available to 15 schools as we make sure we get the programme right, and after that all state and state-integrated schools will be able to opt-in from 2021. It was lovely to meet you all! See more

08.01.2022 SENATORS SHUT DOWN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INQUIRY (aka homegrown terrorism inquiry shuts down without hearing from victims) Hannah Clarke and her three children were... killed by Hannah's ex-partner in February. You probably remember this like it was yesterday. I certainly do. I remember how we were all so outraged. And with good reason. Hannah and her three children were burned alive. Their entirely preventable and unnecessary deaths triggered another long overdue national conversation about men's violence against women. Politicians started promising inquiries, increased funding and a commitment to cultural change. For the first time in seemingly a long time, politicians at a federal level looked to take violence against women and domestic violence a little more seriously. Well, that has not happened. The Senate Inquiry set up in the wake of Hannah's killing has wrapped up three months early. It hasn't held a single public hearing. It hasn't taken a single submission from the public. The Senate committee said this in its final report, tabled yesterday: "Conducting another lengthy, broad-ranging public inquiry into domestic and family violence in Australia at this time would be of limited value". During the #coronavirus pandemic, domestic and family violence rates have spiked. That's another curve we need to flatten, but it won't happen when we won't listen to victim survivors, advocates and experts. I'm beyond disappointed that one public health crisis is being used to justify inaction on another. We can care about, and take action on, more than one thing at a time. #NotOneMoreNiki

04.01.2022 Lest We Forget

02.01.2022 2020 marks a new year and a new decade; and with it comes the opportunity for change and new beginnings. With that, we’ve been busy here at Women with Fortitude planning for our future long term. When the concept for this group was born, we had no idea it would develop into what it did in such a short time. What started as an idea and a hobby, born out of the passion to help other women and children, has developed into something bigger that requires a more formalised and lo...ng-term foundation. Therefore, we are very excited to announce that as from 1st February 2020, Women with Fortitude will become Supporta Sista - a women’s fundraising group, owned and run by women, for women. What does this mean moving forward? Firstly, Fortitude Barbell always have been, and will remain our biggest supporters. We couldn’t have launched this concept without them or held our first event, and for that we are forever grateful. Our team remain closely associated with Jonny, Jamie and the crew at FB, and it’s a relationship that will continue for many years to come. Support the Girls Campaign: This campaign will of course continue to run. All gyms & workplaces that are currently collecting for us, you will be issued new flyers over the next week to place on your collection bins. We are also looking at organising regular pick-ups from the gyms outside of the immediate Brisbane area. Merchandise: For those of you that have purchased our merchandise over the past year, please still wear it with pride. Your contributions have helped many women in need of our support. Our first merchandise release as Supporta Sista will be coming very soon so watch this space. We thank you kindly for your continued support & very much look forward to working with you all in the future to help us help those who need our support, love and strength. Be strong, stay strong! From all the team at Supporta Sista (Lisa, Bob & Sam) xx @bobthept @sammy_collings @lisadmortgages
